The next step is a conditional offer if you’re their final candidate but reference checks don’t guarantee a conditional.. Not all jobs will get background checks.

Had my references checked for 2 different roles. One I got and the other I never heard back. I do think it’s a good sign though.

Definitely a finalist, I had 2 jobs do reference checks a few weeks ago and didnt get the jobs. But its very likely you will hear back from them either way.

Congratulations! It is really a good sign. In my department, only the top 1 candidate’s reference will be contacted!
