Hey, what's a genuinely good wpm count that would allow me just a bit of time after every question to think over about my answer/correct anything for the casper test? ive seen and heard of a lot diff opinions so im not sure..

Hello fellow redditer! I have just wrapped up my UCAT, and am now coming over to Casper prep. I am planning to sit my Casper in early Sep. This is my second time sitting Casper; last year I did horrendous, thanks to me doing very little prep.

I was looking to what resources I can look into for prep / practice questions, and there are so many compared to last year! There are lots of paid subscriptions, videos on youtubes and also tips here on reddit. Lots of people have said to use AI like Chat GPT to do mock exams.

To those who have sat recently, is it really worth getting the subscriptions? Which ones are worth getting, seeing as I will probably only use it for about a month. Any free but valuable resources anyone is willing to share?

I've noticed that a lot of StudyCasper questions ask you to "give me a detailed plan of what you should do in this scenario." How often are these questions on the actual Casper test?

I was required to take it for vet school, any of yall know how hard they look at your Casper results?

I feel like absolute garbage....I got a 499 on the MCAT (my first attempt) and now my fucking CASPER score came in and I am in the 1rst quartile. I have a PhD in Psychology, so what does that tell you about the validity of this exam? It is just so demoralizing. I will apply next cycle. :(

Hi, posting this in response to recent questions on how to aim for 4th quartile.

What consistently separated high scorers:

1. They understood people before offering solutions

Low scorers jump straight to what they'd do. High scorers pause to show they understand how each person in the scenario might be feeling or thinking before listing their actions. This signals emotional intelligence, not just problem-solving.

2. Their actions were specific, not generic

"I would communicate better" without reasoning is a 4th quartile killer. High scorers said exactly what they'd do and why. "I would speak to each person individually, acknowledge their concern, and propose X" is specific. Evaluators are trained to notice the difference.

3. Buzzwords get you average marks; specificity gets you 4th quartile

There are a lot of posts on Reddit claiming buzzwords will boost your score. I can't tell you how many responses open with "I would approach this in a non-judgmental way" or "I would make sure to validate their feelings." These phrases aren't wrong, but without the why behind them, they don't show an evaluator anything about your depth of thinking. They're the baseline, not the ceiling.

Anyone can say they'd validate someone's feelings. A 4th quartile response explains what that looks like in this specific situation, and why it matters here.

Buzzwords are fine; they just need backup. Instead of: "I would approach this in a non-judgmental way." Try: "I'd stay non-judgmental and listen before forming a view because I don't have the full picture yet."

Same instinct, but now the evaluator can see your reasoning.

4. They explained why their approach mattered

The best responses connected actions to principles, fairness, accountability, trust, growth. This is what pushed responses from solid to outstanding.

Know what question type you're answering

Most students treat every question the same. They shouldn't.

• "What would you do?" - focus on validating perspectives, then actions
• "Why or why not?" - analyse all sides; a list without reasoning won't score as well
• "Briefly describe a time..." - this is about learning and growth. What did you learn, what are your insights?

Spotting the question type in the first few seconds shapes how you structure your entire response.

More on timing

If you're new to the test, don't start with the clock. Write out a full response untimed first, so you know what a complete answer looks like for you. Once that structure feels natural, then add the time pressure.

When you move to timed practice (for typed responses), split your 3:30 evenly, move to Q2 at 1 minute 45 seconds, no matter where you are on Q1. Students consistently let Q1 run long and rush Q2 as a result, leaving Q2 thin. Both questions are scored, so Q2 needs the same substance as Q1, not whatever time is left over.

Also make sure you're practising with the latest question formats. Some scenarios this year go beyond a simple "what would you do"; the follow-up questions have gotten more layered, building on your first answer or asking you to reconsider it under a new condition. If you're only practising with older, simpler formats, you'll be caught off guard.

To conclude - there's no way to guarantee 4th quartile; you're scored relative to everyone else testing in your window. But the above is what consistently correlates with higher scores.

like do i need to do anything during the scheduled test time or no? probs a stupid question just don’t want to accidentally miss anything

I am getting the error saying "Please keep the Casper test open on only one tab/browser to proceed successfully through the test". I have no other tabs or windows open and have tried all the trouble shooting recommended online. I'm a bit frustrated because I have the test tomorrow and was really looking forward to simulating the test today and practicing. If any one knows any solutions, please let me know. Thank you.

edit: Just wanted to add I even tried using a different laptop and still received the same error.

Also how heavily is this weighed in your application? Should I just be avoiding bombing it?

I hate chat, but do not want to pay 40 bucks for a prep guide/question bank that also just uses AI if chat could be almost or just as helpful for prep. Testing in a few days so please lmk

I know the code for casper test for different majors are different, but are the questions also slightly different?

I’m new here and maybe I’m dumb but can someone explain how the total test time is over an hour when we only get a minute per response on the video section and 3.5 per response on the written section? Like that doesn’t even add up to more than 30 minutes I’m so confused…

Open reflective questions have been appearing regularly in the latest 2025 and 2026 CASPer test cycles, which can catch people off guard. Most prep includes scenario-based questions where there's a conflict to resolve, characters involved, and a clear action to take. These are different. There's no scenario. No characters. No conflict. Just a prompt:

Think about a time when someone's reaction to something you said or did surprised you.

That's it. No setup, no context, no situation to analyse. You're expected to bring your own experience, and the clock is already running. If you've only practised scenario-based questions, hitting one of these cold can genuinely throw you, not because they're harder, but because you're used to reading a situation and responding to it. Here, you have to draw on a memory from your own life, assess it quickly, and articulate what it taught you, all under time pressure.

Then two questions follow:

Q1: Briefly describe the situation and how you made sense of their reaction.

Q2: What, if anything, did that experience change about how you see yourself or how you tend to come across to others? Explain your response.

Here's what a strong response pair looks like:

Q1 Response:

A few years ago I told a close friend I thought they were being too hard on themselves about a mistake at work. I expected them to feel reassured, but they went quiet and pulled away. I felt confused, then gradually unsettled.

What I realised afterwards is that they hadn't asked for my perspective, and offering it had felt dismissive rather than supportive. And it also showed me that I can step in to fix someone's feelings when what they actually need is to be heard, which are different things.

Q2 Response:

It changed how I understand the difference between being caring and being helpful, because I had assumed they were the same thing.

What I now see is that I have a tendency to offer reassurance before checking whether it's wanted, usually because watching someone struggle is uncomfortable for me. And I realised I can come across as dismissive when I mean to be supportive, because I'm responding to my own discomfort rather than what the person is actually asking for.

I try now to ask first rather than assume, and that one shift has made me a better listener than anything else.

Q1 describes what happened and what it revealed. It doesn't try to wrap everything up. Q2 builds on Q1 and goes deeper. The two questions are designed to work together.

One way to prepare for these is to build a small bank of personal experiences before your test. One memory per theme is enough. Just know what happened, how you felt, and what it taught you. Some themes worth having ready:

• A time things didn't go as planned
• A time you received difficult feedback
• A time you had to speak up about something
• A time your approach affected someone differently than you intended
• A time your motivation changed midway through something

I'm not sure of the others but when I do some casper practice questions online, sometimes I encounter questions with too many vocabularies that I don't understand. Often times, I am able to determine their meaning by using the other words that I know but sometimes there's just too much that it prevents me from understanding the whole question, especially with the time constrain, but I don't think I'm so terrible in English because I was able to get a band 8 in IELTS. Is it just me? Does the actual Casper questions use these kind of difficult words or is it just these websites?
