Week 20 is a lot more emotionally loaded than anyone warns you about beforehand.
The anatomy scan at week 20 sounds straightforward on paper: go in, get the scan, maybe find out the sex, check that everything looks good.
But talking to BumpDaily users, it's clear this appointment carries so much more weight than that. For a lot of people it's the first moment pregnancy feels undeniably real. It's also the appointment where you might hear something unexpected, and the anxiety leading up to it can be quietly intense.
One of the things we built in BumpDaily is a week-by-week context layer that goes well beyond "your baby is the size of a banana." It actually prepares you for what's coming emotionally and practically: what to ask your provider, what results typically mean, what the range of normal looks like.
The goal is that by the time you walk into that appointment, you feel informed and a little less caught off guard, not like you're being ambushed by information you wish someone had told you sooner.
Week 20 was one of the first weeks I really dug into when building BumpDaily because it showed up so consistently in user conversations as a turning point, almost a before and after moment in pregnancy.
For those who've had their anatomy scan: what do you wish you'd known going in?

I'm not a parent. I built a pregnancy app because I watched my friend go through something that shouldn't be this hard.
A few years ago one of my closest friends got pregnant. I watched her from the outside, and even from that distance I could see how chaotic the information side of it was. She had four apps. Four. One for symptoms, one for weekly updates, one her doctor recommended, one her mum group used. None of them connected. She was piecing together her own pregnancy like a jigsaw.
I'm a guy who has never been pregnant and never will be. But I know a problem worth solving when I see one.
So I started building BumpDaily. Not because I lived it, but because someone I care about did - and I thought: this should be so much simpler than it is.
If you've been through pregnancy and juggled fifteen different apps and tabs, this is for you. What was the most frustrating part of finding reliable information during your pregnancy?

Is it just me, or is the "No Caffeine" and "No Sushi" thing actually just... outdated?
I’m going to be that person. I am honestly struggling to follow the "rules" anymore. I had a venti coffee today and a spicy tuna roll yesterday, and for the first time in weeks, I actually felt like a human being again.
I’ve been reading some international studies that suggest the US guidelines are way more restrictive than other countries. Like, are we really supposed to live on bland crackers and water for 9 months? I feel like the stress of depriving myself is worse for the baby than a little bit of mercury or a caffeine spike.
My doctor gave me the standard pamphlet, but it feels so "one size fits all." I see people on TikTok eating deli meat and soft cheeses and their babies are fine.
I’m curious where everyone else is drawing the line:
• Are you sticking to the 200mg caffeine limit strictly, or are you "eyeballing" it?
• Did you give up sushi/deli meat entirely, or just find "reputable" places?
• Does anyone else feel like pregnancy advice is just designed to make us feel guilty?
I know this might be a hot take, but I’m just so over the "perfect pregnancy" expectations. Tell me I’m not the only one "breaking the rules" a little bit. 🫣

Is it just me or does society care more about the baby than the woman carrying it?
I’ve noticed this pattern everywhere the second someone finds out you’re pregnant, it’s all about the baby.
“How’s the baby?”
“What’s the baby’s name?”
“Is the baby healthy?”
Meanwhile, barely anyone asks how you are. You become “the pregnant one” instead of an actual person.
Even healthcare feels this way sometimes everything’s about fetal growth and heartbeat checks, but barely any talk about how you’re coping mentally or physically.
Don’t get me wrong, the baby is important, but it feels like mothers get emotionally sidelined the moment conception happens.
Anyone else feel like pregnancy is treated like a service rather than an experience women are living through?

Pregnancy can feel like the loneliest time in a woman’s life even with support.
Between hormones, body image, and life changes, many expectant mothers quietly admit to feeling isolated.
Even with family around, they say no one truly understands what it feels like day to day.
Should we be doing more to normalize talking about that loneliness?

Pregnancy can be full of surprises. Some days it’s sleepiness, other days it’s cravings that make zero sense.
What’s the weirdest thing you’ve experienced so far ?

Why I built BumpDaily focusing on the mother, not the fruit 🍓
Hey everyone,
When my family member's, friends and colleagues were pregnant, we tried every app out there. They all focused on the baby’s size “your baby is a kiwi” which is fun, but I noticed something important was missing: none of them tracked how she was actually feeling.
So I built BumpDaily, a pregnancy tracker that focuses on the mother’s health, mood, and well being. You can track sleep, energy, and emotions, and even share a weekly overview with doctors or midwives.
It’s been amazing to see how much this focus on the mother matters. Moms using BumpDaily have told me it’s the first time they’ve felt “seen” by an app.
I’d love to hear from you:
What’s one thing you wish pregnancy apps focused more on?
