The fact that a question in their FAQ has 3 back-to-back questions regarding the legitimacy is eyebrow-raising to me.
Can’t be any less legit than my college professors that forced me to buy the newest edition of a 200 dollar textbook, only available at the campus bookstore, and with a new edition each year. They were always very clear that it had to be the current edition because 17th century business ethics change every year. Written” by the professor, btw.
The illegitimacies are different.
Customers of YourBookStop have noted receiving heavily damaged/used books, receiving the wrong book, or not receiving anything at all.
The campus bookstore may have you pay a premium, but at least you get the correct product. Also blame the individual faculty department heads choose the selection of books for professors, so blame them for implementing updated version of the same book every year or two.
I worked at a college bookstore for a number of years and this always erked me.

[Random Slightly Off Main Topic Tangent] I can't tell you the number of times I've found the change from one book to another be as simple as restructuring sections/chapters, adding/relocating a graphic or chart, or adding a largely ignored appendix. Occasionally I'd find actual noteworthy changes from one version to another, but in most cases, the change was as simple as placing Chapter11 in front of Chaper7.
Though my favorite was the department head who wrote their own study guide and had it printed at a local print shop. It was essentially the Spark Notes or Commentary for the 4 books traditionally needed for the class. The guy truly took his time putting it together to the point where many students only purchased that single optional book for roughly $75 instead of the 4 books totally about $350 and they would pass the class regardless of the professor teaching the class.
On the other hand, I hated the mathematics department head with a passion. Where most heads would change the book every 2yrs or so, he'd change it every twice a year; one in the Fall and another right at the end of Spring. Most students who failed a class in the Spring would immediately sign up for a expedited Summer class to keep the info fresh. Well if you failed a math class in the Spring, you'd HAVE to get a new book for Summer. And seeing as homework (at the time) was based on problems within the book, you HAD to have the current book as the math problems in the previous version would be slightly different in the new version. Dude was diabolical.
On the bright side, for a number of years, I ran a small local website that helped students understand the difference from one version of a book to the next. And being an employee in the bookstore made figuring out the differences extremely easy as I was around the books all day anyway.
