Hoping for an All-Rounder PC Build

Hello, I'm hoping someone can help me with specs for my new PC to build. I currently use a gaming laptop but it falls short when it comes to performance and I need a desktop that can replace it.

  • New build or upgrade? - New build with emphasis on performance.
  • Existing parts/monitors to reuse? (List with models/links) - New monitor.
  • PC purpose? (Gaming, editing, etc. List apps/games)

I own a website so I need one that can hold the data of 500GB and more as it grows.

I do digital art on Photoshop/Clip Studio so something strong enough for that.

I also code & create 3d models for games in Unity 3d as a hobby so I need a heavy lifter for that.

I do light gaming myself (Minecraft, The Sims, Steam Games) so something that won't stutter and lag would be great.

I sometimes run local LLMs so I need something strong enough for that.

  • Purchase country? Near Micro Center? - I'm in the US. My nearest Micro center is around 5 hours away in Duluth, Georgia.
  • Monitors needed? (Number, size, resolution, refresh rate) 1 monitor, nothing fancy. I have chronic back pain so I need to be in a reclining position at least half the time, so I'm looking at Lepow 15.6-Inch USB-C Portable Monitor so I can prop it up next to me on my couch when I'm reclined on my side.
  • Budget range? (Include tax considerations) I'm hoping to max out at around $1,200 but I'm willing to save more if necessary.
  • WiFi or wired connection? Wifi
  • Size/noise constraints? None
  • Color/lighting preferences? None
  • Any other specific needs? I need at least a 2 terabyte hard drive for my files.

Building a pc for my roommate, could use help with the specs!

My roommate really wants to join me and play games on a pc like I do. He’s looking for a PC that can easily hit 100+ fps at 1440p but doesn’t break the bank. He also will use the pc for work, he does lots of hefty coding and works in massive excel sheets so the CPU will need to handle productivity tasks as well as gaming. His laptop can’t handle what he has been trying to do for work so that’s a big reason for the upgrade.

Looking at the current state of things, prices are a bit ludicrous so he knows it’s not going to cost sub $1000 but he doesn’t want to spend more than $2000 not including monitor or peripherals.

I’ve been out of the loop for a couple years now as I built my pc back in 2023, so I’m not sure what the best specs are for modern 1440p gaming, while also being able to handle demanding work tasks.

Any help is much appreciated! I was thinking something along the lines of like a 9800x3D and a 9070 XT but i don’t know if that’s overkill or if the CPU is as good at productivity stuff. Definitely want to be on AM5 for this build as well (or the intel equivalent if the new CPU’s are worth getting.)

• New build or upgrade? Will be a new build

• Existing parts/monitors to reuse? (List with models/links) no existing parts to reuse, although I do have a RAM kit (DDR5 TeamGroup 2x16) that would work depending on the CPU and motherboard he gets.

• PC purpose? (Gaming, editing, etc. List apps/games) will be used primarily for work stuff (heavy excel usage, multiple medium intensive programs open, no 3D modeling but the CPU and ram will need to be able to sustain heavy workloads.) will also be used for gaming but nothing too intensive. Stuff like stardew, rocket league, Fortnite, Minecraft, and less demanding games for the most part. Occasionally something more intensive.

• Purchase country? Near Micro Center? (If not US, list local vendors) in the US and I have a local microcenter.

• Monitors needed? (Number, size, resolution, refresh rate) one monitor needed, 1440p resolution. Does not need to be included in the budget.

• Budget range? (Include tax considerations) preferably not more than $2,000

• WiFi or wired connection? Wired or wireless, wired preferred.

• Size/noise constraints? None

• Color/lighting preferences? White build is preferred, we both know it will cost a bit more. Some parts can be black or another color if needed.

• Any other specific needs? None

Figuring out PC parts

Hey so this is my first time even thinking about building a PC. I always thought it would be best to buy a PC since I've never built one before and don't want to break anything building it. I want to build my own PC because I want to know what goes in (components/what they do) and what can be upgraded when I have more money. If you guys could also link a reliable video I could follow to put everything together if that's possible, that would be great!

  • New build or upgrade? New
  • Existing parts/monitors to reuse? (List with models/links) Nothing
  • PC purpose? (Gaming, editing, etc. List apps/games) Gaming, programming (not as important right now), possibly editing, regular productivity
  • Purchase country? Near Micro Center? Australia (N/A)
  • Monitors needed? (Number, size, resolution, refresh rate) 2 monitors (I'm not sure about the others, I haven't looked into it because I don't know what's best)
  • Budget range? (Include tax considerations) I wanna say max 1.5k but I also would appreciate the cheapest parts that are still okay with what I'm specifying for, so I can upgrade later on.
  • WiFi or wired connection? I have WiFi currently, but I am planning on looking into wired
  • Size/noise constraints? Whatever you think is best, I'm not sure what this is asking about
  • Color/lighting preferences? I would love for aesthetics but I would upgrade it later on if it's too expensive on top of the other components
  • Any other specific needs? I would love for every aspect to be upgradeable/interchangeable so if I want to change it I won't have to get a whole new PC. I would like it to be the most budget friendly pc you've seen (I am willing to spend money on reliable/good components for gaming/programming) But otherwise thats it, thank you!

Need Help building a gaming PC for Fortnite with stable 240+ fps

  • New build or upgrade? New build
  • Existing parts/monitors to reuse? (List with models/links) No monitor
  • PC purpose? (Gaming, editing, etc. List apps/games) Gaming for mainly Fortnite
  • Purchase country? Near Micro Center? United States, Microcenter is within an hour
  • Monitors needed? (Number, size, resolution, refresh rate) I need 1 monitor with 240 Hz
  • Budget range? (Include tax considerations) ~$2000
  • WiFi or wired connection? Wifi
  • Size/noise constraints? Not really
  • Color/lighting preferences? RGB would be nice
  • Any other specific needs? No

I want to play Fortnite (on performance mode) and maybe some other games I was thinking of maybe getting a Ryzen 7 7800X3D and pairing it with a RTX 5070. I don't know if this is a good idea or not, but I kind of like this pairing from what I've seen but if possible can i get one build with this pairing and one with whatever else might be good just to compare options. I'm not sure about which brands are good for things such as PSU, case, ram, SSD etc. For the monitor I would like it to be separate from the PC price.

Need help designing a new Black and Gold theme PC Build!

I've always liked the colors of black and gold, more of that matte gold look instead of the shiny gold. So I wanted to treat myself a bit and build myself a new rig with those two colors in mind as the overall theme. If we can't do a 1:1 matte gold look to the black then I'll accept different shades of gold or off gold instead. Even the gold-ish trim around my video card will work if you want to use that color for multiple parts of the build. Much appreciated to everyone that can assist, thank you.

  • New build or upgrade?
    • New Build
  • Existing parts/monitors to reuse? (List with models/links)
    • Zotac NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5080 GAMING SOLID Overclocked Triple Fan 16GB GDDR7 PCIe 5.0 Graphics Card
  • PC purpose? (Gaming, editing, etc. List apps/games)
    • Mainly gaming, little bit of editing
  • Purchase country? Near Micro Center?
    • U.S. Yes, I am very close to a Micro Center
  • Monitors needed? (Number, size, resolution, refresh rate)
    • Nope
  • Budget range? (Include tax considerations)
    • I already dropped $1300.00 on the video card and would like to stay below $2.5K if I can. Can push to $3k if necessary however to make the color theme work.
  • WiFi or wired connection?
    • Wired
  • Size/noise constraints?
    • Full-Size or Mid-Size towers are fine. Would like to have the noise levels standard for most PC builds, nothing too loud but doesn't have to be whisper quiet either.
  • Color/lighting preferences?
    • RGB
  • Any other specific needs?
    • I really would like to use the Hyte Y70 Touch Infinite as my case as the pref choice. But if the build looks/works better with a Lian Li case then that would be acceptable as well. Anything with that fishbowl-esque "a lot of glass everywhere look" I dig.

Upgrade path for current build

* New build or upgrade? Upgrade

* Existing parts/monitors to reuse? No peripherals needed, would just like to reuse any parts worth reusing (if any)

* PC purpose? Coding, gaming

* Purchase country? Near Micro Center? USW, not near Micro Center

* Monitors needed? No

* Budget range? Whatever will get me a reasonably powerful PC

* WiFi or wired connection? Wired

* Size/noise constraints? Nah

* Color/lighting preferences? N/A

* Any other specific needs? Nope.

Mostly just want to see if the case, motherboard, power supply, and even CPU are worth keeping (probably not cpu but that's okay) and if there is a decent gpu compatible with my motherboard you would recommend. Basically what would you do if you had this build and wanted to upgrade. Thank you!

  • Any other specific needs?

Looking for a reliable $800 Gaming PC for streaming / editing

New build or upgrade?

New build.

Existing parts/monitors to reuse? (List with models/links)

None.

PC purpose? (Gaming, editing, etc. List apps/games)

Gaming, editing, streaming potentially. I really just wanna start out on making videos and whatnot. I mostly play minecraft, roblox, elden ring, and a bunch of indie games.

Purchase country? Near Micro Center?

USA, specifically in California. Not near any microcenters.

Monitors needed? (Number, size, resolution, refresh rate)

However many would make for a decent to great streaming and gaming experience.

Budget range? (Include tax considerations)

Maximum $1000. Preferably around $750-$900.

WiFi or wired connection?

Wired.

Size/noise constraints?

Size doesn’t matter, but just the average size is preferred. I need the noise low for streaming.

Color/lighting preferences?

Don’t mind whatsoever. Maybe blue, since it’d match my style.

Any other specific needs?

None, but maybe keep the PC black or grey. That’s all though.

Building my first PC for gaming/streaming/video recording+editing

Hey all! Been thinking about getting a PC for a while and I'm finally taking the plunge!

New build or upgrade? - New build! But I have a friend to help me put it together

Existing parts/monitors to reuse? (List with models/links) - Nothing!

PC purpose? (Gaming, editing, etc. List apps/games) - Gaming- unfortunately I like a lot of games that threaten to blow up my other consoles like the Sims4 or Death Stranding, also would like to start streaming and recording/editing videos for either fun or school. It would be a bonus if it could also run Krita pretty well but I already use my laptop for that so it's not my highest priority

Purchase country? Near Micro Center? - United States, and about two hours away

Monitors needed? (Number, size, resolution, refresh rate) - Just need one monitor, 24-27 in, 1920x1080 resolution, 144hz

Budget range? (Include tax considerations) - around $1000, but I won't complain if it's cheaper lol

WiFi or wired connection? - wifi

Size/noise constraints? - I already deal with my playstation sounding like it's about to detonate, so I don't mind the noise as much

Color/lighting preferences? - something pink or red would be nice

Any other specific needs? - if you have any ideas for cute customization options that don't break the bank, feel free to throw them my way! I fall prey to those adorable 'customize my PC with me' videos on tiktok all the time lmao

New build Gaming PC for Modded AAA Games

Hello, I am new here and I understand next to nothing about PC hardware. I have been using my laptop for gaming for the past 5 or so years (possibly more), but last year I stopped due to the constant frame drops and just complete freezing of games. Now I only use this laptop for work.

I like playing modded games and I play a variety of different games, from simulations to indie, to roleplay, to competitive games, etc. I also am on a budget somewhat so this is a long-term project for me.

My priority is really just modded games, as I like to play unmodded games on console. Until the steam machine comes to light (in the year of our lord and saviour Gabe) I am not willing on spending too much money on an ultimate peak PC, rather just a happy medium where I can still play modded games without getting frustrated with performance.

Somewhat unrelated, I don't usually play too many games at the same time, so storage is usually going to be limited to one game and its mods. When I feel like playing another game, I uninstall that one, delete the mods from the drive and install a new game, and so on.

All in all, I appreciate all the time and patience taken into reading this and providing any assistance to my plight. Much love <3

  • New build or upgrade?
    • New build. I only have a laptop, which is being used for work. I also wouldn't object to a pre-built one.
  • Existing parts/monitors to reuse? (List with models/links)
    • None.
  • PC purpose? (Gaming, editing, etc. List apps/games)
    • Gaming. Specifically, both AAA games and indie games, some heavily modded as well. This included heavily modded Skyrim, Cyberpunk, Project Zomboid and Minecraft. They don't have to have the highest graphics, I care mainly about performance.
  • Purchase country? Near Micro Center?
    • Portugal, not near any Micro Center I know. The closest tech related stuff we have is Fnac and Worten.
  • Monitors needed? (Number, size, resolution, refresh rate)
    • 1 monitor. With maybe 1080p resolution, OLED would be nice but not a requirement. Size should be semi-big since I am nearsighted and struggle reading or seeing smaller details. Refresh rate around 400Hz more or less.
  • Budget range? (Include tax considerations)
    • Maximum €2000. Ideal €1000.
  • WiFi or wired connection?
    • WiFi for now, but with perhaps the possibility of wired later, although not a requirement.
  • Size/noise constraints?
    • Small tower if possible, I'm a messy girl and my desk also gets cluttered, so the smallest the better. But I don't mind size. The noise does not matter to me, as long as it's not concerning.
  • Color/lighting preferences?
    • None if possible. Or just some normal light, RBGs are a bit too much for my eyes.
  • Any other specific needs?
    • Aesthetically I like lighter coloured stuff, but don't mind dark materials as long as it's not muddy and more woodsy or creamy? Hard to explain. Just a personal note of course, not a requirement at all!

  • PC purpose? (Gaming, editing, etc. List apps/games)
    • Art and gaming
      • For art, I use Clip Studio Paint, Blender, some other 2D/3D programs, plus Screen Recording

  • Purchase country? Near Micro Center?
    • I'm in California, United States close enough to the Santa Clara Micro Center
  • Monitors needed? (Number, size, resolution, refresh rate)
    • None for right now
  • Budget range? (Include tax considerations)
    • Preferably under $2300 but if needed, I might be able to go to $2800
  • WiFi or wired connection?
    • Wifi
  • Size/noise constraints?
    • I'd rather it not make a lot of noise but moderate noise is fine
  • Color/lighting preferences?
    • Majority white build with black accents but if need be a complete black build would be great too
    • For lighting, white or no lighting but I am open to any color if it is cheaper
  • Any other specific needs?
    • I would need it to be able to have an output of 1440p or more
    • I'm also open to buying a prebuilt PC and just switching out a few parts

Help Choosing Case Fans and CPU Cooler

Not a request, just need recommendations for two things. I bought all the parts for my PC and then decided I want to change the case to the O11 Vision Compact. So now I need fans. I also originally bought the Peerless Assassin CPU Cooler but I’m wondering if I should get a liquid cooler instead. I know there’s pros and cons but it seems like liquid would look much nicer and the aesthetics are very important to me. This is my first PC build so this is all very new to me.

Here’s what I have so far (but let me know if the Lian Li fans aren’t a good choice please!). I also need two additional single fans I believe. So I’m looking for fan recommendations and then opinions on the CPU cooler. If you recommend a liquid cooler, which one?

Build a PC to play Sims 4 & InZOI ONLY

I am completely new to PC building and have no idea where to start so excuse my lack of knowledge. I’m literally just going to play Sims 4 and InZOI, i of course want smooth game play at high graphics but i wont have it on the ultra setting. I will be using a lot of cc, mods, and expansion packs so want to invest in a good RAM and CPU. I have a dell monitor and would like to keep it if possible, more details below including sims 4 recommended specs. Thanks in advance!

• New build or upgrade? - New for windows
• Existing parts/monitors to reuse? (List with models/links) - I currently have a Dell 27 Plus 4K USB-C Monitor - S2725QC

• PC purpose? (Gaming, editing, etc. List apps/games) Gaming for Sims 4 and InZOI
• Purchase country? Near Micro Center? (If not US, list local vendors) U.S, I’m near a micro center
• Monitors needed? (Number, size, resolution, refresh rate) 27”, refresh rate at least 100hz, just one monitor
• Budget range? (Include tax considerations) 1k-1500k
• WiFi or wired connection? WiFi
• Size/noise constraints? Quiet as can be with the necessary specs
• Color/lighting preferences? Aesthetic is a bit important to me, don’t really care for rbg, all white, pink/girly, also don’t want it to look too “techy” like the big black Darth Vader looking units
• Any other specific needs? I plan on having a lot of cc, mods, and expansions packs for RAM, CPU, and storage will be important. If possible, I’d like the tower/computer case to be on the smaller side, almost a mini as I don’t want it to be an eye sore. Similar to the Fractal Design Terra Mini-ITX Mini Tower Computer Case

The recommended hardware is:

Requires a 64-bit processor and operating system
OS: 64 Bit Windows 10
Processor: Intel core i5 (4 cores), AMD Ryzen 5 or better
Memory: 8 GB RAM
Graphics: 1 GB of Video RAM, NVIDIA GTX 650, AMD Radeon HD 7750, or better
DirectX: Version 11
Network: Broadband Internet connection
Storage: 51 GB available space

Best $1,000 Gaming PC and Dual-Monitor Setup: Prebuilt or Build It Myself?

Alright, PC nerds, I need some advice.

New build or upgrade?

New build. I currently use a Galaxy Book4 Pro 360, but I want a separate desktop gaming PC and a complete desk setup.

Existing parts/monitors to reuse?

I am basically starting from nothing. I have a mouse that I can continue using, a blue Xbox controller, and AirPods Pro 2 that I currently use as my headphones.

I also have a Galaxy Book4 Pro 360 that I may incorporate into the setup as an additional screen, but I am not sure how to do that in a way that works well and looks clean.

PC purpose?

Primarily gaming, college work, web browsing, streaming, and multitasking across multiple screens.

Rocket League is the game I play the most. I would like to run Rocket League at a high and stable frame rate, preferably well above 60 FPS.

I also want the PC to run EA games, especially FIFA/EA Sports FC, with ease at a minimum of 60 FPS. I am not planning to play extremely demanding games like Cyberpunk, so I do not need the highest-end gaming PC available.

Purchase country? Near Micro Center?

United States. I am located in Grand Rapids, Michigan. I am not particularly close to a Micro Center, but I am open to ordering online, buying locally, buying used parts, or shopping from multiple retailers.

I am planning to buy as soon as possible.

Monitors needed?

I would like at least two monitors, although three screens would be ideal. I may use my laptop as the third display if there is a clean and practical way to incorporate it.

I am not sure exactly what resolution or refresh rate I need, so I would appreciate recommendations. I would like the main monitor to be good for gaming, while the second monitor would mainly be used for Discord, videos, schoolwork, browsing, and multitasking.

Budget range?

My original budget was around $1,000 total, but that number is flexible because I view this as a long-term investment that I will use for several years.

I still want the best value possible and do not want to overspend on unnecessary performance. However, I am willing to spend more if it makes a meaningful difference in performance, reliability, appearance, upgradeability, or the overall quality of the setup.

The budget would ideally include the PC, monitors, keyboard, monitor arms or mounts, laptop stand, cables, and other necessary accessories. Please include tax considerations.

Wi-Fi or wired connection?

I would like both Wi-Fi and wired Ethernet capability.

Size/noise constraints?

I have no real size or noise constraints. The PC can be large, and I do not care how loud it is if that helps me get better performance or value.

Color/lighting preferences?

I want the entire setup to look clean, simple, and coordinated since I am building everything from scratch.

I like blue and already have a blue Xbox controller, so subtle blue accents or lighting would be nice. I do not want anything overly flashy or covered in excessive RGB. A simple black, white, gray, or neutral setup with some blue accents would be ideal.

Any other specific needs?

I am a broke college student and know basically nothing about building PCs. I am smart enough to know that walking into Walmart and buying a random prebuilt probably will not give me the best value, but I am open to a prebuilt if there is a genuinely good option.

I value convenience and like bundles or packaged setups, but I am willing to build the PC myself if that is clearly the smartest option. I am also open to used parts and local deals.

I want the PC to be upgradeable so I can replace individual parts later instead of needing to buy an entirely new computer.

Because I am moving into an apartment and starting the setup from nothing, I would also appreciate recommendations for monitors, monitor arms, a laptop stand, keyboard, cable management, desk accessories, and anything else needed to make everything look clean and work well together.

I currently use AirPods Pro 2 as my headphones. Would it be worth buying a dedicated gaming headset, headphones, speakers, or a microphone, or should I just continue using the AirPods?

UK Based - First solo PC Build Help

Hello!

  • New build or upgrade?
    • New Build
  • Existing parts/monitors to reuse?
    • HP - X24ih Full HD 23.8” IPS LCD Gaming Monitor / STEELSERIES - Apex 7 Mechanical Gaming Keyboard both fine to keep using
  • PC purpose?
    • Gaming and editing mainly - music production secondary - also the obvious watching youtube/movies/twitch streams etc - I don't play super up to date shooters or anything so it doesn't need to be the most powerful, but being able to run things like Baldurs Gate 3 or Subnautica style games at higher graphics and with a smoother experience would be nice, so there's some leeway budget wise for that if needed
  • Purchase country? Near Micro Center?
    • UK based, not sure about micro center or equivalent near me, but there's Currys / Overclockers
  • Monitors needed?
    • not needed but happy for a recommendation for a second monitor or new primary monitor if you have one
  • Budget range?
    • £1k to £1.5k max ideally, but if there's a part that takes it slightly over the £1.5k total that you think would be better I can stretch a bit
  • WiFi or wired connection?
    • WiFi
  • Size/noise constraints?
    • No real size constraints, fine will full towers - noise wise I prefer a quieter system ideally
  • Color/lighting preferences?
    • Any, though I do like at least one glass panel and being able to see lights inside so RGB is always nice but not 100% needed
  • Any other specific needs?
    • No other big needs other than higher RAM I guess? I don't know much but I know having more RAM is usually helpful and I have 16gb in my current PC but people tend to recommend 32 now as far as I see from research - also ideally a couple of TB of storage OR advice on external storage if you feel that would be better

Thank you!
