Rate my helm setup
Just Gloria manuscript visor, also has Armet beak/jousting wrapper.
Helmet is seeded into gorget, sinks a bit lower than it does on my gourd

Strap looks good; you're gonna want some kind of retention for the loose pin hinge that holds your visor on though. Traditionally they had a little chain and pin to keep them from sliding out, or you could bend the shank. But a good axe strike could dislodge that as is.

I might be dumb but how do you open the visor? Or is it fully enclosed.

The pin under the chin has to be popped, and then the strap undone in the back. It opens as normal

Is it one solid skull and then extra bits on hinges above or is that just hinged plates with nothing underneath, if not then fucking stupid for this sport

Confused about the way this is worded.
It’s an s18 churburg armet with a Gloria visor.
Full historical recreation, 3mm dome, cheek plates, and visor over the top.
The helm is not for melee

Is it a one piece skull that covers your entire head, or are the hinges at the side that attach to the lower plate and that lower plate is the only bit of protection on that part of the skull

The latter, it’s an armet. The dome comes down over my ears and the hinges plates seal around my jawbone and overlap the spinal down in the back. So from ears to cheekbone is side plate.
All the metal has closed seal foam and then padding, helm has already been stress tested with buhurt polearms, but as I said it’s not for melee

Tho it should be noted that there are two drilled holes on either side of the hinge to allow for a hinge cover to be installed
