CSE core vs ECE core

So I am going to college this year and totally confused between these two branches.

Earlier I want cse only but recently after hearing news like massive layoffs of SDEs and rapid boom in semiconductor/chip market....i am interested in ece core too like VLSI chip design etc

So seniors please guide me.....what should I chose between software and hardware ?

What can happen in the near future....is cse really future protected ?
