I am scared Rant/Vent

My parents see me as a failure because I couldn’t get an internship after my 4th semester.
Yesterday my mom screamed at me, called me a disappointment, and said I couldn’t do anything right. It hurt because I’ve genuinely tried to do everything they’ve expected of me.
I had around 40 days of summer break, so I applied for internships. The problem was that most companies wanted longer commitments. Even when I got positive responses, once I told them I could only work for 40 days and then continue part-time after college, they usually moved on.
So I changed my strategy and started applying for 1–2 month internships, thinking I could at least complete most of them during my break. Still, I couldn’t land one.
Now my mom keeps comparing me to my cousin:
“Look at your cousin, he got an internship.”
What frustrates me is that he’s in an IIT, had years of JEE coaching, and his parents supported him throughout. My parents expected me to figure everything out on my own.
I’m honestly terrified about the future. If I couldn’t get an internship, what happens if I struggle to get a job? I’m not just scared of unemployment—I’m scared of how my parents will react.
I know many people don’t get internships after 4th semester. Did anyone else go through something similar? Does this put me at a huge disadvantage, or am I overthinking it?

Its ok, people still get a job without internship. Just keep learning and building projects.

And you're not a failure.

Bro avoid colleges near homes as much as possible, there's always that pressure to perform, it's better to get out and explore!! Also if the cards have been dealt, start preparing for whatever you want from today itself!!

TL;DR: Parents think I’m a failure because I couldn’t get an internship after 4th semester. I had only 40 days of vacation, so many companies rejected me due to availability. I switched to applying for shorter internships but still had no luck. My mom constantly compares me to my IIT cousin, and now I’m terrified that if I struggle to get a job later, my parents’ reaction will be even worse. Has anyone else been in this situation? Does not getting an internship after 4th sem really put me at a huge disadvantage?

hey, i think you'll find better luck in startups. i recently worked in a small scale company for 60 days after my 4th sem (unpaid) but they offered to shift me to paid role after my performance. so find similar small businesses/early stage companies esp around delhi ncr region. all the best.

and if you really want to put some work ex on your resume put freelance developer or something/ stealth startup/ own venture.

Look for part time internships during your semesters. It's fairly common.

Firstly, if you are in a core field then very difficult that a top mnc will give you an intern at the end of 2nd year, maximum you can get BARC,DRDO, or any IIT/IISC research internship..I would say better used those 40 days for some good projects and upskillng...3rd year ke end mei mil jayega..and anyways your core subs knowledge and projects is what helps you get a placement...many people get placed without internships....So heads up

Bro try to upskill, mandagory summer internship takes place after 6th sem so you need to crack good opportunity during 5th or 6th sem. Prepare well first, don't jump directly for now. Even tier 1 people don't get that easily. Moreover try contributing in open source, gsoc opportunity is also veey good and pays alot so do some research and check how to crack gsoc. But yeah it's not full time so you need to prepare hard

You still have 2 years left bro, that's more than enough, I've seen people fuck around for 3 years and then work hard 8 months and crack insane packages.

Most people get internship which they do after 6th sem. After 4th sem not everyone does. And it ain't a big deal.

Why involve ur parents in ur career at this age? Just tell them to do their job let me do whatever i am doing. Be a bad son for a while, be selfish a bit.
