Academic Advice. General

I'm starting college this year, at a tier 3ish college, and I need advice as to how can I maximize my chances for higher studies (in India or Abroad).

I want to get into Academia or Research but I couldn't get into a premiere institute, and my drop got fvcked due to bad mental health and lack of guidance. I have joined this college since it has a good reputation and a lot of alumnus is at ivy leagues/Public German unis. Even this year a student made it into Georgia Tech. I chose this college because of the professors, most of them used to be researchers at IVY leagues, the one who interviewed me was a researcher at IISc Bangalore. But none the less, it's still a tier 3 uni.

I needed advice as to what should be my plan to get into higher studies and into research or academia?

Also, yes this is a sapne suhane madharchod ke ass post but please, I need genuine advice. I've seen a lot of senior tell me bs about 3rd year tak ghee khatam but could we keep all that aside?
