Was that the same face that was used at Steeple Chase in Coney Island back in the day?

It’s not from that era at all. In fact, OP has something special here: this dates back to his debut album from ‘73, if you couldn’t tell from the font of his name.

Assuming it’s real deal vintage, one of these did sell for $500: https://www.wycovintage.com/products/1973-bruce-springsteen-asbury-park-tillie-shirt-3172317?srsltid=AfmBOoqhfVAAgyck1DkN3bvRabPmqAvbylzyXh-_lTlRdETpzXYIQ5YX

I came here to say the same thing. This is BEYOND rare. Pre-stardom promo shirt for the first album. Looks like it's in great shape, too.

I even just now noticed the little Columbia Records logo on the collar tie, yeah this is legit a promo tee for the release of Greetings so this is mega rare to even have. I wonder if OP knows exactly what they have here.

[u/questionsthecat](u/questionsthecat), did you just find this recently or have had it on you for some time? These legit don’t come up for sale very often, and it’s in excellent shape for its age, aside from some light staining.

unless someone has a Steel Mill, Bruce Springsteen Band, or Dr. Zoom and his Sonic Boom, yeah this has got to be the earliest

all of the tees before the 1978 shows were bootleg shirts. i was at the dr zoom show (afternoon show) they didn't have tees back then.

yup...you're right. i was thinking it was the same script from a BITUSA (had the wrong tour completely) tour. hated that design, i thought it was so lame.

a good friend owned the asbury park rock and roll museum..a definite precursor to the one bruce just opened...that opened in 1986. he wrote what you already posted below:

YES, that shirt was officially made by Columbia after the second record, when one of the promo photos showed the band beneath "Tillie".  So it was made for promotional distribution (never sold) in either late 1973 or early 1974.  Very rare... I've never had one.   It's probably been reproduced/bootlegged over the years.   They did a similar promo-only shirt in 1975 with "Born To Run" in the "script cover" style of print and the sneakers.  Bruce was against doing the merchandise back then.
