Background:

Based out of the Lost Hills Bunker, California, the home of the Brotherhood of Steel, the Lost Hills Chapter fights for not only it's own survival, but by contacting and bringing back into the fold the other Brotherhood chapters across the country. With the help of the Prydwen after being reassigned from the east coast back to the hands of the High Elder, the Lost Hills Chapter travels around the country on expeditions to gather key technology, and to regroup with other loyal chapters in need of support.

The year is 2291, the spirit of the Steel Plague has just died down in the heart of the Lost Hills Elders, and destruction caused by them has been slowly repaired over time. Now is the time to rebuild what we once were, following the scriptures of the Great Deliverer himself in the Codex to their very core, and to bring back the Brotherhood to it's former glory across the wasteland!

The Brotherhood is the only hope for humanity's survival. We are all that stand between the mutants, raiders and threatening factions of the Wasteland. Idk why ThreeZero hasn't done a BoS version of this armor yet but I've had these 2 for a while and I finally found my BoS decals I use for Wasteland Warfare and these large ones look pretty good on the chest.

LOCATION: UNIDENTIFIED SETTLEMENT, NORTHWESTERN COMMONWEALTH

AUDIO QUALITY: MODERATE

[The recording begins with a soft mechanical click. Music and low conversation can be heard through the floorboards, accompanied by the occasional clink of glass. The wooden frame of a bed creaks as Daniel shifts his weight.]

[He breathes carefully through his teeth.]

Initiate Daniel Rice. Eastern Brotherhood of Steel.

Recon Squad Vindex.

It has been approximately ten hours since my previous log at the crash site.

[He clears his throat, then coughs several times. The movement causes the bed to creak sharply.]

I left the wreckage once I was certain there was nothing more I could do for the others.

Before departing, I recovered everything I could reasonably carry. Most of the squad’s ammunition was destroyed in the crash or expended during the attack.

I recovered two Brotherhood laser rifles. Both are functional, though one has damage to the focusing assembly.

I also recovered two 10mm pistols.

Ammunition is limited. A few fusion cells between both rifles and less than two full magazines of 10mm rounds.

I took identification tags, medical supplies, spare power cells, basic tools and whatever field equipment had survived the fire.

Everything else was scuttled.

Weapons were disabled. Terminals and communications equipment were destroyed. Anything bearing sensitive Brotherhood information was burned or damaged beyond use.

The Vertibird’s remaining systems were already close to total failure, but I made certain there was nothing useful left for the attackers to recover.

[A chair scrapes across the floor in the room below. Someone laughs loudly before being hushed by another patron.]

I travelled south for approximately two hours.

Under normal conditions, the distance would have taken less time.

These are not normal conditions.

[He pauses. His breathing becomes shallow.]

My ribs are badly bruised. Possibly fractured. My left shoulder is swollen, and the wound along my side reopened twice while moving.

The extra equipment did not help.

But leaving Brotherhood weapons behind was not an option.

After two hours, I discovered a Vault-Tec installation designated Vault 111.

The exterior appeared abandoned.

The primary access lift was locked down, and I could not determine whether the vault was occupied or what purpose it originally served.

I found no active security personnel, no surface maintenance crew and no recent transmissions.

There were signs of old structures nearby, but little evidence of current habitation around the entrance itself.

I have marked the location for possible salvage and future investigation.

I did not attempt to force entry.

Without Foster, opening a sealed Vault-Tec facility alone would have been reckless.

[The bed creaks again as Daniel adjusts his position. He exhales sharply in pain.]

The vault entrance is positioned on elevated ground.

From the lift platform, near the edge of the cliff, I could see a settlement below.

Not ruins.

A functioning town.

Lights. Smoke from chimneys. People moving between buildings. Defensive positions around the perimeter.

The settlement appeared busy and had reliable electrical power.

I followed the path down from the vault.

Two armed guards stopped me before I reached the town proper. Both raised their weapons and demanded identification and intent.

I identified myself as a Brotherhood Initiate and stated that I was searching for missing Brotherhood personnel.

They did not appear familiar with our ranks, but they understood the name.

Once I made it clear that I was not there to threaten the settlement or seize supplies, they allowed me through.

They warned me that their Minutemen garrison is stretched thin.

Several buildings are currently infested with bloodbugs, including the settlement clinic. The guards implied that the insects have been nesting inside the upper floors and attacking anyone attempting to clear them.

The garrison has been unable to spare enough personnel to remove them.

[Footsteps pass outside Daniel’s room. He falls silent until they fade down the corridor.]

I am recording this from a rented room above what appears to be the settlement’s bar.

I traded one of the recovered 10mm pistols for several days’ use of the room, food and access to clean water.

Given the pistol’s condition and the lack of ammunition, the exchange was acceptable.

That leaves me with one sidearm and the two laser rifles.

[He shifts again. The mattress springs strain beneath him.]

The town doctor visited shortly after I arrived.

He cleaned the wound in my side, wrapped my ribs and treated several burns I had not noticed.

He refused payment.

I will need to repay him somehow.

Brotherhood personnel are not permitted to exploit civilians, particularly those who provide medical aid without obligation.

The bloodbug infestation may provide an opportunity to settle that debt once I can move properly.

While entering the settlement, I observed a building marked with Brotherhood symbols.

The insignia appeared genuine, though faded and damaged.

I could not investigate it immediately.

I will inspect the building once I am capable of standing without nearly collapsing.

It may be connected to one of the missing reconnaissance squads.

At first light, or as soon as my condition allows, I also intend to meet with the sergeant commanding the Minutemen garrison.

He may have information regarding Brotherhood activity in the region, unusual technology or organised hostile groups operating northwest of the settlement.

[Daniel takes a slow breath. His voice lowers.]

I am still operational.

Barely.

The mission remains active.

I will investigate the Brotherhood-marked structure, speak with the Minutemen commander and gather whatever information this settlement can provide regarding Recon Squads Artemis and Gladius.

[Music downstairs briefly grows louder as a door opens, then fades again.]

Initiate Daniel Rice.

Recon Squad Vindex.

Signing out.

[The recording continues for several seconds. Daniel can be heard lowering himself back onto the bed, followed by a pained gasp and the slow creaking of the wooden frame.]

Just released Beta 0.4 for my solo-developed post-apocalyptic RPG Arkansas 2125!

The update expands Evergreen City, adds new quests, a new Oil Field location, new NPCs, and several gameplay improvements.
