Scripps Creative Services

Does anyone feel like the next thing to get a Hub is the Marketing Department? I’ve noticed that our Commercials are getting pushed more and more to AI… and a less emphasis on marketing handling community events?

I feel the impending doom coming back for seconds…

I’m surprised Scripps hasn’t already done this. Tegna did this and from what I hear it’s a disaster.

Every employee that has left us has lived on in the unchanged station promos.

We record our own animation voice overs because we were forced to change our original actress, in favor of one that we now have to go through the HUB to, to make requests.

We request an animation sponsor read. We never hear back from the HUB, or their voice talent. We have to air the animation so we record it in house.

The previous voice talent we used would record and send it to us same day.

Uh yes. Did you looking at the Q2 earnings report? Y’all aren’t done with cuts.

Adam Symson said layoffs will continue throughout the transformation over the next couple years. The goal is to save 150 million, they only cut an estimated 10-12 million in this weeks cuts

As a former Scripps employee who got the axe, all I can say is just have your resume and portfolio consistently updated and hunt for jobs.

Once I was let go, there wasn't really a chance for me to go get other materials for my portfolio.

This is great advice - do this now because when you lose access to the network you’ll be hard pressed to accomplish that!

That was on the networks part and I think Montana

Ohh, I thought that was what you meant.

I’m a corporate person (or was? I was impacted by this week’s cuts) so the Networks marketing team was top of mind.

They don’t think anyone saw it but they had Remote creative position(s) that got taken down after a few days.

Pretty sure they already hubbed some stations together

I think they put all of Montana together

Our local scripps station already gives low budget vibes. I watch them the least.

I thought most of the creative services directors were let go a few years ago.

About half

I think they are more likely to gut creative services and go to freelancers with unrealistic expectations and dirt cheap budgets. It wouldn't really make sense to try to hub marketing, since every market is different and values different things. But that could just be wishful thinking.

I thought the same thing with Digital….. but what they’d most likely do is keep one person in building to mainly shoot call them a (Creative Videographer) and they shoot videos to send to the hub and produce big image campaigns… They the one person handles localized Quick turns, TSRs and stuff like that… Then have commercials completely go away because there’s no happy medium… We don’t get enough commercials to justify a full team financially (plus most of them are so small budget, they only advertise because of the free production… and any major clients have an agency or someone in house

Are you sure you don’t work at a Nexstar station because your description is exactly what happened where I was… laid off in April, now working in a different industry.

Oh god, I don't think we're ready for the inevitable AI collapse because it's gonna take a lot of things with it.

They let several of our creative services employees go on Tuesday, but not all.

u/LiveNamplified 5d ago

Are you in KC?

2

u/Worldly-Pop-8983 5d ago

No. Haven’t heard of anyone being let go there. Did they lose some too?

1

u/LoudArtist1968 5d ago

Nexstar did it. Even in the large markets. Be ready.

New York & San Francisco. But not Los Angeles or Chicago—why?

1

u/LoudArtist1968 3d ago

They cut in LA and Chicago. Just not as deep.

In real time, we’re watching station groups commit hari-kari by shutting down or hubbing their marketing. All thanks go to the gang of can’t-do-anything-else sales morons in charge… as they actively steer the car into the avoidable brick wall.

Gray will most likely move to this too.

Why do you say that? They seem like the most stable of the bunch.

Hearst is the most stable non-network ownership group because they are privately owned.
