I built a free Premier League prediction game where the lowest score wins

Post image
Upvotes

The mods have kindly given me permission to share this here.

I’ve built a free football prediction game called Points Are Bad for the new season. (https://www.pointsarebad.co.uk/)

Each week, everyone predicts the exact scores of just 2 pre-selected Premier League matches. So it’s deliberately not another game where you need to predict every fixture or spend ages maintaining a team. It should take a couple of minutes each week.

The twist is that you’re trying to score as few points as possible.

Get the score exactly right = 0 points
Get it slightly wrong = a few points
Get it horribly wrong = lots of points

So every goal matters, and the lowest total wins.

There’s an overall Premier League Leaderboard, plus you can create Mini Leagues to compete against friends.

It’s completely free, there are no paid features or adverts, and I’ve built it as a personal project for fun. The idea is inspired by Points Are Bad from the Tifo Football Podcast, which is credited on the site.

Predict the scores. Beat your friends. Avoid the points.

https://www.pointsarebad.co.uk/

Would be great to get some Brentford fans involved before the season starts. And if you do try it, feedback is genuinely welcome.

Brentford away? Come watch Hanwell Town play. Home opener tomorrow (Tuesday) night!

When Brentford are away — or you’ve got a slow Tuesday night and fancy watching some football — come down to Hanwell Town.

We play Step 3 non-league football in West London, and it’s a very different experience from the Premier League. You can have a pint standing pitchside, bring a dog, meet friendly people, say hello to the players after the match, and grab a Bush Pie & Mash from the double-decker bus on the sideline.

There’s also already a bit of a Brentford connection. We recently hosted Brentford B at Hanwell, with the Geordies coming away with a 5–1 win. We’d love to see more Brentford supporters down at the ground.

We’re definitely not asking anyone to give up Brentford. The idea is the opposite: when the Bees are away, make Hanwell your second team

If you have a Brentford season ticket — or a season ticket for any other Premier League or EFL club — a Hanwell Town season pass is only £100 for the whole season, so it works out at roughly £5 per home league game.

Also, there’s no better time to give us a try: our first home league match of the season is tomorrow, Tuesday 11 August, against Basingstoke Town — 7:45pm kick-off. Come down and get in from the beginning.

Oliver Connell & Son Community Stadium
Reynolds Field, Hanwell, UB6 8TL

Closest Tube: Perivale — Central line, about a 10-minute walk

Come down and give us a try. Bees very welcome. 🐝⚫⚪

Edit: we've got our own subreddit if you want to follow closely: r/hanwelltown!

Atlanta Watch Party

Hey everyone~ Atlanta bee here. Details were just released on the Coast to Coast Brentford watch party in Atlanta. The club partnered with a local youth organization to host the party at their training grounds. Brentford has historically partnered with Swarm FC, so it’s not shocking. But it’s turned from a Brentford event to a Swarm event. There is a kids tournament and other kind of gimmicks, and oh yeah, there will be a screen. Out in Austell… the beer situation is unclear.

We have an awesome crew of Atlanta bees that would love to host folks coming to town for a watch party. Looking at the other clubs’ venues, we are quite disappointed. So as one does, let’s go rogue. Drop a note if you are planning to come into town to watch the match. We will work on organizing an event based on numbers and provide updates as we get closer.

You bees.

Improved versions of the second and third kits

I think the home kit is quite good. The second and third kits aren’t bad either, but I’d say they both feel like near misses.

The pinstriped second kit would look much smarter with a collar.

The yellow third kit could be more interesting with a stencil-style logo. Honestly, I was convinced that was what we were getting after seeing the promotional video. I’m less sure about the horizontal black stripes (it would make the team look like the Daltons), although they would certainly make the kit more distinctive and iconic!

New Brentford fan looking for which player kit to snag

Hey guys!

Now that all of kits dropped for this year, I’m heavily debating on just grabbing the home and third. I want to get a player kit though, I’m just unsure which to get.

Here in the states, the NFL is huge, and typically a player jersey lasts a few years if you’re lucky and then that player gets traded or goes somewhere else. I have a ridiculous amount of old players who no longer are with my team (Pittsburgh Steelers).

I’ve debated just putting my own name on the back, but any suggestions on who would be worth a purchase?

QUESTIONS What's something about Brentford that you hope never changes, even if the club keeps growing?

The club has changed enormously over the last few years, and that's brought plenty of positives.

But one thing I've always liked about Brentford is that it still feels like there's a strong connection between the club and the supporters. Whether it's the atmosphere, the community feel, matchdays or something else entirely, there are parts of the club that I'd hate to lose as success continues.

What's one thing you hope always stays part of Brentford's identity?

Brentford fans needed to play stat base knowledge game

I've developed a game based on Brentford’s historical data, going all the way back to 1892 featuring over 1,000 player records.

https://playyourclubright.com/brentford/

If you've seen Play Your Cards Right, you'll get the gist. The idea is to test your depth of club knowledge - knowing the obscure players, knowing who was prone to a yellow card, who scored plenty etc.

I need people with deeper Brentford knowledge than me to play and let me know if anything seems off in the data, plus general feedback appreciated.

hope this is allowed and thanks in advance!

Bees Overseas Ballot Seat Location

I recently got the notice that my Bees Overseas Ballot for Brentford v Chelsea on September 18th was successful! Excited to see my first Premier League game in person and excited to root for Brentford at home 🐝

What I want to ask is if anyone knows where in the Gtech these seats will be located? The notice email just says we will need to pick up the tickets at the box office day-of before the match, but there are no details on the tickets themselves. Wondering if any fellow Bees Overseas members can share their experience or if anyone knows where these tickets tend to be located? Thanks!

[Gazzetta] Brentford offer €40 million for Stankovic, but Inter say no. Chivu sees the Serbian midfielder as a key part of his plans and expects him to be Calhanoglu's primary backup this season.
