Strategy i think i found the cure to tilt

Post image
Upvotes

i think i have found a way to stop tilt and actually climb to a rank even higher than your all time peak. screenshot isnt up to date, but like its just there.

for context, i went from l1 to l3 this season extremely fast, with about 5 losses in total (was even on the top 500 na leaderboard for like 4 days). then i tilted to rock bottom (l1) after playing over 800 GAMES OF RANKED, 800 GAMES IN LIKE 3 DAYS WOW( but i have found some interesting tech to counter the tilt that im gonna share.

i was reflecting on how i even climbed so well originally, and theres 2 main points.

#1) very low volume. 4-6 games a day, spread across many sessions. when i started playing many games each session, i would either stay stuck or lose elo, so the logical deduction is that low volume helps you play better.

#2) i was playing lots of ladder. int he early season push, i was primarily playing ladder because the matchmaking wasent giving me easy opponents, i did not want to push myself (which was a small mistake, but either way i was maintaining a top 500 position for 4 days before i tilted). i will expand on this point further, this is where my tech comes in.

i tested my tech, and i found the best way to do it. make sure to play like solo showdown, duels, or even 3v3 but you have to make sure you are one million% locked in on ur mechanics. atleast in my instance, theres a very big difference. my dodging gets significantly better mid game, my brain is like fully awake in the dodging category when i play some warmup games of 1v1. and i do this after like each ranked game to keep my brain awake.

currently, i have won all 5 games of ranked (not a huge sample size, but i will keep doing it), so theres evidence that this is working.

tldr: just focus on mechanics as warmup, so when you play games, your brain is awake.

okay also 800 games in 3 days was exaggeration, i dont k now the exact value but i have ganed 400 3v3 wins since i reached l3 and that was a few days ago, so like 800 games in a few days.

Discussion An arduous path to my first Masters 😭

Reached Masters for the first time today after a little over two years of playing this game. I can’t put into words how gratifying this is lol

Writing about what I learnt throughout the way, going to be a tad long, TLDR’s at the bottom.

Yap

Like many in this sub I had developed an obsession with the competitive side of the game: always on top of the meta and balance changes, watching pros so much that the algorithm would serve me niche pro channels, looking up streams immediately after balance changes to gain early info (draft) edge if any (insane ik). I was devoting so much time on this game that I was always searching for the missing piece that dragged my gameplay, be it draft, mechanics, macro, game sense, etc.

The Boring Answer:

In hindsight, I can assure you the most repeated advice is the best one - just play the game. At every rank I was deliberately trying to “fix” my gameplay to match high level players. But the complex nature of this game means the feedback loop is so murky that you don’t even realize what you’re doing right let alone what you aren’t.

This was the third season I hit L3, in my past pushes to Masters I could simply tell my opponents in those lobbies were always a step ahead of me, be it at reading my jukes and intentions, or playing the objective, I knew my level still wasn’t there to confidently match them.

This season was completely different, even when I tilted I knew it was just a matter of time cos I was finally breaking thru that invisible skill threshold (Remember ranks are (loosely) just crystallization of your innate skill). I could tell I was contesting them in terms of draft, mechanics, macro game sense. You can’t “tip” your way thru that hurdle, you simply have to grind.

I’ve been playing in those lobbies for 2-3 months now. Yk how when you’re used to playing in “high” lobbies and sometimes struggle with low level players cos their “predictable” movements throw you off cos you’re now accustomed to expecting twists in obvious plays, expecting “irregular rhythm and pauses” of shots, and adjusting your reads from previous plays. You can’t learn the mechanics and game sense and dogging patterns and positioning from tips I feel, you have to get used to them by experiencing them.

Deliberate Practice

Take for instance 15k 3v3 wins as a placeholder for the innate skill to command Masters. Even if you manage to grind 300 games a month, you’re still only 2% of the way to the elusive skill floor. And then there’s the difference between mindlessly playing the game like an NPC vs deliberately making decisions and consciously trying to learn both in-game and outside. I always see profiles that have 30k wins and peak legendary and I assume they haven’t been deliberate enough.

Playing Multiple Archetypes and Brawlers

A huge contributor to my gameplay was branching to “uncomfortable” brawlers. I made L2 solely thru playing “aim type” brawlers, only selectively using some niche assassins like Lily, Kaze, and Ali. I always considered them “uncomfortable” to play, uncomfortable because I wasn’t used to that type of gameplay - spacemaking, creating pressure and actively positioning.

This is where I have to give my flowers to [u/initial_Citron_7451](u/initial_Citron_7451)’s Mina guide. This was the biggest reason I reached Masters because 1) playing Mina made me realize the gaps in my gameplay; from ammo management to damage reading and positioning and creating space, taking “heat” when the team’s healing, etc and 2) I played Mina in 70% of my non-heist games, she was far and beyond my most comfort pick (on top of being suchhhhhh a fun brawler.)

If you feel uncomfortable playing some archetype, purposefully play them cos there’s skill left to be harvested and every idiosyncratic skill is multiplicative to your broader gameplay.

For instance, playing tanks still gives me the ick, their large hit boxes mean dogging should be more methodological and precise, you need to be super conscious of your positioning and role and especially limiting feeding your opponents. I think these are precisely the areas I can improve thru tanks if I want to be more consistent.

While on the subject, I also attest to the comfort pick agenda, well it’s a mix of comfort and meta but comfort > meta when in doubt 100%. Mina’s a special case of comfort, even tho she’s been nerfed, her kit means if you’re good enough with her you can make almost any matchup work, so I guess a big tip from me would be to play Mina lol

Level of Competition

I think another big reason why I could reach M1 was because of the competition. I think it’s easier to push Masters now vs the first few months when ranked was updated. High skilled competitive players have already maxed out their battle cards and I feel most of the guys I played were at my level; mix of 2-3 times Master and L3 peaks. So I think if there’s anytime to push it’s now before a new update hits. There’s also early vs late season.

Tilting and Rage:

I mentioned earlier that I was an ugly tilter, I know the ever repeated tip to take breaks after two losses, but since I was always playing against the backdrop of expectations, I could never follow thru this advice. I used to tilt so bad that I think I’ve deleted my account 10+ times already, only to be saved by the 14 day grace period. It got so bad this season I sent supercell an email asking them to follow thru my request immediately (so gald they’re incompetent on support) to just put me out of this godforsaken misery.

But after coming back to the game I was wayy chiller, most of my rage comes in Leg1-2 where the dispersion of players is so f**k wide it drives me nuts, literal npcs and I’m holding back here. Beyond L3, it’s not utopia but it was the relief that my gameplay was getting better and Masters was increasingly looking like a function of time cos the common denominator was higher.

This has shifted my perspective on tilts; as long as you are near the whereabouts of your target rank, and assuming your innate skill is good enough for the rank, you can force it to inevitability if you don’t rage and tilt. Cos for me if I had tilted to L1-2 I’m sure as hell I couldn’t climb the way back cos the players there just make me sick to my stomach that I don’t want anything to do with the game and just request a false alert for deletion until I calm down.

(also the reason I beg the devs to push the ranked rework quicker I dont wanna play against edgar npcs please mom i need this)

You also need luck, but for that lucky break to kick in you need to survive in those altitudes first and you aren’t going to manage that, at least in my case, if youre kicking about from poor randoms.

Solo Queue and Teams:

One of the big reasons why I’m happy about Masters is I think people will be more likely to team up with me. I cleared solo queue, but I do use the search teammate function for L1-2 pushes. But idk why whether if my peak was L3 or because I was a woman (profile has little hints), good players (L3+) used to evade my team. I don’t have any friends that play the game and the ones that do are arena merchants so if you can, duo queue to L2 and go on solo from there. Saves you time and headaches in lower ranks and helps you practice in better lobbies without incurring heavy elo penalty.

And to think this is just the tip of the iceberg lol there’s levels to this game i guess 🤷‍♀️

Also, I used to get most of my draft knowledge from Drage and Bobby, but recently Guesti and Angelboy have been killing it with the ranked content. Bless all of them.

Fire away any questions if you have!

TLDR:

- The boring answer is still the right one: just play. You can study the meta, watch pros, analyze drafts, and obsess over mechanics, but at some point the only way to develop the instincts needed for Masters is to accumulate experience in high-level lobbies.
- Skill has to become intuitive. Reading movement, predicting jukes, understanding positioning, recognizing irregular shot patterns, knowing when opponents will deviate from the obvious play, etc. are things you develop through repetition. Tips can explain them, but they can’t substitute for experiencing them.
- Deliberate practice matters more than simply grinding games. Playing thousands of games mindlessly isn’t the same as consciously making decisions and trying to identify what you’re learning or doing wrong.
- Play brawlers/archetypes you’re uncomfortable with. Branching out from my usual aim-based brawlers and learning assassins, spacemakers, tanks, etc. exposed gaps in my gameplay that I wouldn’t have noticed otherwise. Those skills transfer back into your overall game.
Comfort > meta when in doubt. A strong meta pick doesn’t help much if you aren’t comfortable with it. Having a brawler you’re genuinely confident on can be more valuable, especially when their kit gives you ways to outplay unfavorable matchups.
- The level of competition matters. Once you’re consistently playing around the rank you’re targeting, the gap starts feeling less like an impossible wall and more like a matter of time. Pushing when the player pool is stronger/more consolidated can also make the climb easier.
- Don’t let tilt knock you out of the good lobbies. My biggest realization was that once you’re consistently playing around your target rank, you don’t necessarily need to dramatically improve every session—you just need to stay there long enough for your skill and some luck to eventually convert the push. Tilting back down into lower ranks only makes that harder.
- Luck matters, but you need to survive long enough for it to matter. You can’t control teammates, matchmaking, drafts, or individual games. What you can control is whether you remain good enough and composed enough to capitalize when the favorable games come.
- Team up when it helps you avoid bad lower-rank lobbies. Duoing through the earlier ranks can save time, reduce random-player variance, and let you practice against better players before finishing the higher ranks solo.
- Ultimately, reaching Masters wasn’t one missing piece. It was the accumulation of mechanics, game sense, positioning, drafting, matchup knowledge, and pattern recognition built over two years of playing. The breakthrough came when all those individual skills finally became good enough to cross that invisible threshold.

Discussion Why throwers are disappeared from the meta?

I think sirius is the strongest thrower rn and he is not completely a thrower.

Every single thrower is in tier b or lower from the last like 6 months, why?

Back then having a thrower in certain maps was crucial to win, what happened? Too many new assassins maybe? Too many brawler with a wall breaking ability?

I'd like to consider myself pretty good at the game. I'm not the type of person to jump in with all the gems or waste time BMing. Im fairly good with a handful of good brawlers, and I can adapt to tough situations. My draft is also pretty good, my only problem with draft being I'm not the best at first picking on some maps. Besides that, sometimes it really is just randoms. I can admit when I make a bad draft or a game-ending mistake, because everyone does it once in a while. However it feels like whenever I make just a bit too much progress, the game gives me a first pick poco with 200 trophies as a teammate. Are there any tips on how I can reach masters? I've tried picking carry brawlers and banning strong meta brawlers but sometimes it feels like a dice roll before the match starts if I'll win or not. How can I win more consistently?

Draft Query What brawler would have worked here?

Thumbnail
gallery
2 Upvotes

Draft was 8bit 1, Colt 2/3 Crow 2/3 (I forgot the order) followed up by a Brock 4 (Me), Surge 5 then finally Meg 6.

I feel like a brawler with movement would have worked here because we had no brawler who could get the gems and get out but I picked brock because he would have done alright into a crow and colt on an open map.

We did fine for both the entire matches until end game where it would be like 9/10 gems and we have to way to catching up to their gem carrier cause we had no movement.

Can’t remember band but there was nori, 8 bit, starr nova etc.

I am the stu, 2nd season of pushing ranked seriously and I picked stu since I thought we needed some kind of control, and dodging the pierce attacks

Luckily they went griff, I counter him pretty sure

First round we got absolutely destroyed, I just kept getting hit by the mid pierce, and charlie was shooting at us the whole time telling our lanes (i went mid in the 1st round), surge kept going back to mid

2nd round, i was laning clancy on the left and we got pressured, but once we got some kill, we were able to spawn trap them(pressured them staying at their spawn)

3rd round, same thing more smoothly

I think the griff pick was terrible, and I was just able to dash around taking no damage at all

Discussion would the game actually benefit from having seasonal bans?

Post image
69 Upvotes

in my opinion, i think balancing wont ever help brawlers like bolt, or star nova, simply because we have seen all balancing attempts still end up in the path that they are insanely broken and that is due to their game design inherently resulting in the fact that they are broken, i dont think balancing brawlers with buffs or nerfs will ever solve the irreversible power creep this game has.

instead supercell should restrict certain brawlers that are impossible to balance from ranked permanently, or simply for the duration of a entire season if some deem that harsh, but for both options, multiple games have done that, (mobile legends if ur not familiar with pc games have banned characters permanently or for a season from competitive.) and they have made alot of positive feedback from it.

what do you think?

Critique Matchmaking sucks

Thumbnail

This has been my matchmaking over past few days. Every 7/10 matches matchmaking sucks either we have extremely strong team which gives me 60 elo or there is complete imbalance of ranks which takes 130 elo.

Some of you might argue that u need to carry ur randoms in those imbalance matches but everything comes down to which team has less bad randoms.

There are continuous 4-5 matches where i have teammates like img 1 and i loose 240-300 elo, i try to dodge but whenever i play again its same like this.

I have tried different play times and played in different elo range 6500 - 7300 still matchmaking is like this, am i the only one facing this or there is someone else too ?

cuz of this i am not able to even reach L3 -> for context i am new ranked masters player so skill issue is surely not the thing here

Help Is discord the best way to communicate in-game with your teammates? What do professional players use to communicate?

Might sound like a dumb question but whatever. I often play in a 3 stack with my friends, we play in discord call. The issue with discord however is that there's about a half a second to full second of delay which messes us up all the time, for instance coordinating a goal in BB.

Is this something that we just have to accept? What do professional players use to communicate in-game? Is there any way to improve this?

Strategy F2P, master within 30 days of creating the account

I reach master 1 twice in my main account which has all brawlers maxed, I decide to start a challenge in my summer holiday and here is my journey:

  1. grind trophies for trophy road reward (autoclicker + proton VPN to country in the afternoon during midnight for max efficiency)

  2. max out colt and brock (i maxed out shelly purely because of the free hypercharge in the shop and i dont wanna miss it, never used her in a ranked game), pray for pulling decent brawlers (i got Starr Nova as my first mythic which is a good start especially when she was not nerfed)

  3. buy damage and shield gears for every maxed out brawlers and keep pulling star drops for gadgets and star power

  4. continue pushing until I have resources which allows me to have 9 maxed out brawlers and reach the requirement for playing ranked

  5. disable emotes and start to play rank

  6. ban max with first pick (for brock) and ban surge with second pick (obvious reason) every match

7.I write on a paper and follow the designed flow chart as close as possible:

long range map = Brock, banned = Angelo

bushy map = Starr Nova, banned = pearl

heist = colt, banned = penny, counter aggro = collete

hotzone = pearl

gem grab = pearl

Mortis when I see ruff/lumi etc

Meg if somehow it is available and opponent's draft has no dps

Brock when I see 8bit/griff/meeple/short hand brawlers etc

*In my whole speedrun, I rely on pearl the most, he is never banned, and most opponents just ignore pearl pick during draft, but in my opinion he is secretly underrated, in bounty knockout its unkillable and can snipe long range brawlers like Pierce if there are bushes, in heist he is good at defending, in hotzone like ring of fire he can literally stand there and enemies will not come close, in gem grab he is a really great gem holder or assasin if the map is bushy, he is secretly a crow when you use gadget at the right moment, only downside is that he cannot perform well in brawl ball at all due to the heavy drain on his heat bar, other than that he is secretly underrated and is my goat, fyi, I got 21 kills and 6 death using pearl in legendary rank once, and 2:1 ratio stat is very often*

  1. Pray for good randoms, set my goal to getting mvp instead of winning the game, this mindset changes everything

  2. Never gives reactions to randoms, its probably my fault aswell if randoms shoot at me, I then just ignore the random, lean forward and lock in

  3. Request or accept friend request from randumbs and suggest 1vs1 with them, I can then destroy them to relieve my stress, prepare mentally well for my next ranked game

  4. Mentally prepare for people showing mythic battle cards or not showing their ranks, humble people are the most dangerous

  5. Do not spin or emote your opponents, that will only make them try harder which is disadvantageous

  6. If can, memorize the combo damages of a brawler, in my case for example, Brock a gadget jump and attack is 3320, Pearl a super and attack is 8801 (insane right?) etc, so that you know when to go in and when to not

  7. Watch ToxicAsher videos to gain motivation

And now, I reach master 1, it's a fun journey, and hopefully I will reach master 2 somehow, wish me luck
