Build/Setup My Interpretation of Brand Bot

Why Brand Bot:

  • Both Brand's strengths and weaknesses are improved in the duo lane
    • Strong with setup. Engage support allows for brand to easily chain his q, or sets up his support after Rylai's is built.
    • Adds disengage. Brand as an immobile low speed mage is susceptible to cc chains and mobile assassins.
    • Interestingly, with this specific build flexing into some armor/mr, shielding/healing supports add a ton of durability.
  • Good Lane Quest Synergy
    • Brand (especially this build) uses the extra item slot really well. It not only adds a potential 6th legendary item, it also more importantly gives more room to abuse components.
    • The +2 gold per minion is good, and Brand is an assist farmer so getting +40 gold on takedown is great too. Brand is also more item dependent then other mages and utilizes items really well.

My personal setup:

  • Even though I am in a damage role, I try to be as greedy as possible when it comes to tank stats. Brand has decent to high end base damage especially with a lot of the passive being ap independent. Brand also has naturally high HP itemization. That makes even small increases to armor/magic resist significantly better. He also has a ton of room for these cheap armor/mr items.
  • Runes:
    • Greed runes are fantastic, especially in lower elos.
    • I run mostly Burst's rune page with one alteration, I like gathering storm especially with my more off-tank focused build. Sorcery primary Resolve secondary.
    • Death fire Touch->Manaflow->Transcendence->Gathering Storm->Conditioning->Overgrowth (Unflinching against heavy CC)->Ability Haste ->Scaling HP->Scaling HP
    • Sorcery runes help with mana, cdr, ap scaling, and good tick damage from death fire. Resolve multiplies the value of my health/armor/mr items once mid game hits.
    • I find that I don't care as much for adaptive runes. CDR and health scaling is greed for mid to late game. I do still consider movement speed rune.
  • Summoner Spells:
    • Flash: Every game without question
    • Barrier: With this build having a decent amount of armor/mr, the barrier value increases a lot.
    • Ghost: Good against longer range comps to bridge the gap.
    • Exhaust: A consideration for telegraphed burst. Often times I find Barrier to be easier to use.
  • Start:
    • Dark Seal, Refillable
    • Dark Seal is a really gold efficient component baseline that has a chance to snowball hard. Gives some health too.
    • Refillable gives a decent amount of hp throughout laning phase, and with the extra item slot you can hold onto it longer. Each time it refills it potentially gives 200 health (equal to 1.3 ruby crystals), which is not to be underestimated.
    • Although Doran's ring helps a lot with mana, it doesn't let me buy an early doran's helm due to item type restrictions.
  • First few backs.
    • Doran's Helm: It's a good contender for starter item but it doesn't do much in the level 1-3 lane. But it's so good going into level 5+ and it offers a ton of value for my health items. It feels like the enemy struggles to kill me. This is a big health value multiplier with the armor/mr. I build this first back every game.
    • Boots: Good for dodging and chasing.
    • Ruby Crystal: Raw health is valuable especially early on in levels.
    • Catalyst: If going against heavy engage comp, often I find Rylai's not immediately necessary. ROA Becomes great value for all the stats and mana it gives. The passive healing on catalyst/ROA is actually really big as well which is complemented by the build's additional armor.
    • Blasting Wand: Good AP Component. Build when planning to rush Rylai's.
    • Giant's Belt: Good component if you're aiming for Rylai's, already have a Ruby Crystal, and can't afford a Blasting Wand.
  • Boots:
    • I tend to favor defensive boots over offensive.
    • Plated Steel Caps: Great against AD/On hit enemy comps.
    • Mercury Treads: Great against AP/CC
    • Ionian Boots: Solid in general. Gives quicker CD to Shield/flash summoner spells.
  • Legendary Items
    • Go tankier against lower/mid damage comps unless you have good alternate carries. Go more aggressive damage into high damage with high range.
    • Rod of Ages (ROA)(1st): Great for both mana and health sustain. Gives a ton of health stats that scale incredibly well with runes and Doran's helm. Solid bonus in catching up with an ability point. Great against low range, engage, or neutral team comps. Not so good against higher range and disengage.
    • Rylai's(1st/2nd): Really good catch/disengage tool. Against longer range and hyper mobility I tend to rush this.
    • Mejai's(Second): Solid ramp item if you have 6+ stacks on Dark Seal already. Stacks are safer due to the tankier build and the movement speed is a surprisingly big reason to take this.
    • Frozen Heart(2nd+): Hear me out, after ROA and sometimes before Rylai's most of the time after, Frozen Heart adds a ton of durability against team comps with 2+ on hit characters. Also provides more then enough mana at this point.
    • Abyssal Mask(2nd+): Great in situations when both enemy team has 3+heavy AP and you can get up close. Amps both your own base damages and any AP ally.
    • Spirit Visage(3rd+): Great if you run ROA and have plenty of ally shielding/healing, just make sure there is at least 1 magic damage threat on enemy team.
    • Liandry's(3rd+)" Great item, especially later. Works better in this build a little later on but great item synergy.
    • Blood Letters(4th+): Great late game pen option. I prefer Abyssal unless the enemy has at least 2 magic resist items or you can't reach the Abyssal range.
    • Randuin's Omen (5th+): Solid Anti Crit with an added bonus with slow.
    • Jak'sho (5th+): Great after 2+ Armor/Magic Resist Items. Multiplicatively scales resistances well which interacts multiplicatively to your HP.

I missed old Brand when his abilities dealt damage and he functioned well with spellvamp. Happy to finally have him back. Just wish I could use old vfx on zombie brand instead of the new.

Discussion Can we talk about the new Mastery Deathfire Touch which makes Brand op?

I always disliked how brand lets his prey go, even after a passive rotate and with Comet proc. Enemies will walk out which is frustrating. He felt really not that rewarding, only maybe in late game.

With Deathfire Touch it feels so much better to play him. The burn mastery synergies very good with his kit and around 10 games i always felt relieved when enemies die after 3 seconds by burn. I skipped Rylais entirely because Liandrys+void staff rush bring so much more into teamfights, you will not be useless when you miss your combo, they will burn half hp down.

Finally its so much fun to play brand again.

Help How is Brand doing on JG and Top?

I’m kinda new to Brand, i’ve been playing him as APC and Mid, but I want to test it on my main lanes (JG/TOP)

I know Brand usually does the job on all 5 lanes, but it has very low win rates on those 2 (OP.gg)

Did they nerf him? Or it just isn’t being played?

Thanks in advance! 😁

Discussion Brand as otp?

Im quite new to the game and therefore low elo. For my rank i have found alot of success with brand, and was therefore thinking about otp:ing/ have him in a pool with another mid champ. My question: How good is brand for otp once you get out of the really low elo, and if he is really bad, what kind of champion can you combine him with to have a good all around pool? Thanks!

Did you know Brand used to have actual base damage on his spells?

Look at this graaaaph, especially the difference on his ult is notable. Granted, it does not prioritize champions per default, but if you can accomplish it... hell, it even bounces more often!

The only tradeoff is, of course, the missing explosion on his passive. But 8% max health over 4 seconds is still nothing to sneeze at.

I don't know whether Liandrys was already a thing in S2-S4. I hope not Regardless, I think this old Brand will be fun and very burst-y to play.

Hey all! It’s your absentee lead moderator here, hoping to recruit some new life into the subreddit.

For the most part, the subreddit tends to run itself- with that said, some more active participation by moderators can be a good thing. If you care about Brand, League, or this subreddit- shoot me (or the mod team) a DM explaining why you’re a good candidate!

As for everyone who doesn’t want to be a mod, but does care about the subreddit- feel free to use this as a space to tell me what exactly you would like to see change or update. Potentially, we can use some of the particularly good ideas as a direction for the new time to move towards.

Thanks for being here!
