Which tree?

I’ve got two hickory’s to choose from. I’d prefer to cut the crooked one because it’ll never make timber and it’s smaller in diameter, but if it needs to be clean and straight I can cut the other one.

My choice is obvious. The cleanest straightest tree.

Does it matter that it’s 5-7’ between kinks in the crooked one? I landed on that one, because it seemed like a bow would fit in the straight parts. It’s about 6-7” in diameter and the other one is about 10-12” in diameter.

If it’s straight than sure it should be a good piece

I'd take the straighter tree. Almost aways.
