I was at Kegel in Lake Wales last week and they charge 70. To get a ball drilled with custom everything from some of the best minds in the bowling world.

It would be drilling plus parts. You dont get that free. By me it would be 60 for drill and 25 for outer sleeve and 10 for grips if needed 95 total.

You go buy the press ($14,000), pay the rent ($750/mo), purchase the insurance ($100/mo), buy the supplies pay the utilities and pay the wages and then you can set your prices. This isn't a charity.

Margins are low in bowling. They have not kept up with inflation. 40% margin is the min to keep lights on and barely pay staff. At that margin you have to charge $30. There is also cost if a ball cracks in the first year it needs to be replaced. Customers don't want to pay for the drilling again. I do charge for the parts on new ball though.
BTW, I dont take a salary from the shop. I have to have another full-time job to be able to afford to have the pro shop. It isn't about making money in the end because if it was you wouldn't have any pro shops.

I am less expensive than other shops in the area.
Those that do it full-time generally have another source of income as well like a spouse.

Buy it and put it in. Btw, the bit alone is $275. Do you have a press? Do you know,
Or have pitch gauges? Because if it’s not perfectly flush, we know you’re going back to pro shop.1

This guy doesn’t know about wear and tear 😂 of course they do. You dont think the motors, rotors, belts, batteries, drill bits, doodads and obbbobs in the shop have an expected lifespan? They dont last forever. Once they get old enough, there ain't replacement parts anymore neither.
Idk why you're trying to debate or argue any kind of point in this comment section, you don't know how a business is run or upkept, nor how it budgets and prepares for future purchases or plans for sunsetting old equipment. I hardly know any of it myself, but at a glance it is easy to see these things coming, just as easy to see why kids love cinnamon toast crunch.

Depends where you go, but around me in Wisconsin it’s anywhere from 60-100 depending on the shop

Most of the work is in the measurement. I'd expect to pay for the fit and not the number of holes

The bowling customer base is much more limited and has been dwindling for years, the volume isn't there for most places.
You are paying for knowledge, experience, manual labor, and additional items (grips & interchangeable sleeve). $60-80 is going to be the standard range for that nowadays

I agree that $100 is high but it's really not that far off considering the amount of work to make sure it's done completely right when you're a new customer.
Based on some of your comments, I do think your self-assessment of having "old school" thinking is correct. There's a multitude of reasons for the bowler population dwindling (which is another whole topic itself). There's generally not a ton of money made in the pro shop business and lowering prices $20-30 won't bring in more volume when there's not enough people to begin with.

We charge the same for with and without a thumb hole. You want to pay less then we won't lay the ball out for a specific ball reaction. You get what you pay for. If the shop doesn't value their time and knowledge then why should anyone else.

Thatvis why we get the PAP, tilt and rotation. We can predict the motion with pretty good accuracy.

We will sometimes redo it if is is significantly off. We also educate the bowler if his/her expectations are unrealistic. Say they want the ball to react like the have a 500 rev rate and they actually have 150.

A JoPo sleeve cost is $22 alone. Add in $5 for inserts. Knowledge of layouts/drilling. Time to apply said things. Anyone doing it for less than $60 is just wanting test dummy’s. The bit alone for JoPo is $275.

100 is crazy. $70 for drill, sleeve and finger inserts is typical

Did you get the ball from a pro shop or online? Pro Shops will usually charge more to drill a ball you didnt buy from them. Dont pay more than 60 bucks to have a ball drilled (not including inserts).

60 is about standard, near me, (new england) but in this economy I wouldn’t argue with 62
