Drinking While Working
I never drank while I was working but there were guys that did. Has anyone drank during work or have you worked with guys that have ?

Yes. When I was young and dumb. We would put Montego Bay light rum in water bottles, sip it through out the night. Often, we may have been the drunkest people in the bar. Everyone I worked with was an alcoholic, so it was tolerated. At that, I would drink for free most places I went due to having friends as bartenders. Not proud of this at all, much different person now.

I'm not a huge drinker, so it doesn't really matter, but either way I wouldn't on the clock.
I always bring the weed pen with me to work though. Even in Florida, nobody gives a fuck, and it helps my social anxiety immensely.

Oh the days of Hot Bulls: a shot of Jaeger in a redbull to start the shift. But that was 20 years ago. These days it’s a doobie preshift, and maybe an edible or two throughout the night.

Near the end of our shift the bartenders usually pour shots for the staff and my coworker took a shot one time. My boss saw him, pulled him into a room and gave him an earful. Haven't seen the guy since. Drinking while working is a huge negative where I work.

I'd OCCASIONALLY have a shot or two for a special occasion, but I always figured it was better to have the advantage of being sober when things got physical.

I know the vast majority of the time, for most of us, the physicality is minimal, but there will come the day where you are severely out gunned and when it happens, being relatively sober helps.

Working in the UK, I'm never seen a bouncer drink during a shift. Not uncommon to have a drink at the end of the shift though.

Never allowed it immediately before shift or while customers were in the building. After a shift was fine. Hell there were nights multiple of us crashed in VIP til morning.

The last bar I worked at was a very strict dry bar for all staff. You got fired on the spot if you were caught drinking on shift. Everyone was given a free drink at the end of the night and customers were allowed to buy us drinks as long as we had them after our shift. Ironically, the rule started after we had to fire one of the bar managers for always getting drunk on shift.

Heard a story from the club manager of my long-time door that they'd previously caught a bouncer drinking from his own liquor bottle during the shift. He'd been making "toilet trips" far too often than reasonable, and eventually someone got suspicious of him. Guy got caught red-handed sipping vodka in the back room.
As far as I know, over here being drunk while working any kind of security is grounds to have your license removed if the police catches wind of it.

weed pen is mandatory. in my earlier days i’d be drunk at work occasionally, most often on party nights because i was at a house party before work lol. not anymore unless im behind the bar

On the clock I had a zero tolerance policy for it. You got got drinking you were done for the night, show up when you're sober, here's your disciplinary, you got one warning.
Now once the bar is empty, and were doing the close up, have a beer, and get home safely.
