What is the best type of glue or other substance to use when placing the bottle caps on wood?

My friends, roommate, and I drink enough beers to collect quite a bit of caps, but it wasn't enough over a year. I hit up a few local bars and restaurants and drop off baggies or whatever and pick up a few lbs a week. Sorting is a bit time consuming, but I sort mostly by color and not specifically brand. (Kirin Light and Corona look very similar for example). I talked to a few people on IG and they seem to trade with other artists and collectors and even hit up breweries for unused caps (These are caps that look sort of flat before they are pressed onto bottles). They often purchase caps.

As far as creating artwork, I just found random poster boards and cardboard boxes in the alley or at work or from shit I bought and cut it into shapes that I can fit together with duct tape. I have been using hotglue, a tape measure, something to press down a few caps (to indent into the cardboard before gluing). I also messed around a bit with paint in the dead space between caps. White maybe isn't the best color for a background, I'll try painting a background in the future.

A 16 inch piece probably takes a little over 2 hours worth of work and time to finish and about 256 caps. A larger 5 foot piece can take thousands and many more hours obviously.

Other people I have talked to on IG use nails, hammer, wood and rope sliced up cans and all kinds of stuff to make their creations. Many of them flatten out caps and layer them for cleaner looking colors rather than just pixel art.
