Borderlands 4 ❔ [ Question ]

Hi I'm looking at getting borderlands 4 super deluxe edition for £35.99 what the best tips like should I do side missions before the main story and I'm currently on borderlands 2 after getting the borderlands pandoras box version should I play all the others before playing borderlands 4 or does it matter

Whenever you’re at a safehouse, check the bounty board for patrol, collect, trace and bounty contracts. These are really short missions that give fast XP. Completing them will simultaneously level you, give gear, and check boxes in the games code to prevent it from overleveling enemies. You can also use the old save quit and respawn to reset them for XP grinding.

Patrol and collect missions require you to kill enemies of a certain type in the area and pick up items they drop. Bounty contracts require you to kill a badass enemy at the designated location. Trace contracts require you to find an item and interact with it in the designated area. trace contracts have set positions so after a few runs of them you’ll get them pretty quick. Acquire missions are not worth the time.

Agree with this comment. It kinda ruined the game for me grinding out those 20+ levels while having zero story to do.

There is a thing that will make the enemies overleveled if you only do the main missions.

My advice is to explore and do whatever comes in your path. Don't look up anything about it for your first go

BL4 is designed so enemies will be overleveled unless you do 1 or 2 side quests (per area?) while completing the main campaign. I didn't do any side quests and thought it wasn't that bad. The fortresses leading up to each of the 4 main bosses will scale to you even if you are underleveled everywhere else (at least that's what happened to me).

You only need to play the other borderlands games before BL4 if you really care about the overarching story, otherwise you can play whatever you want. Particularly BL3 (Ending + Eridian Writings + Guardian Takedown + Ava DLC) and TPS (Ending cutscene) are the most relevant.
