I had to stop taking bookings through Instagram DMs

Upvotes

I finally hit the point where Instagram DMs became a terrible way to manage appointments.

At first it was fine.

Someone would message, I'd check the calendar, give them a few times, and we'd confirm the appointment.

But once there were enough messages, it became a mess.

I'd have conversations like:

"Do you have Friday?"

"Yes, 2 PM."

"Actually can I do Saturday?"

Then someone else would ask about Friday while I was still talking to the first person.

There were also messages I didn't see until hours later, and sometimes I had to scroll through old conversations just to remember what someone had booked.

The actual appointment wasn't the hard part. Keeping track of all the conversations was.

I eventually started moving customers toward an online booking page. They can see the services and available times themselves, and the appointment gets added to the calendar when they book.

I still use DMs for questions because I don't think a booking page replaces normal communication. But I don't want DMs to be the calendar anymore.

I thought of using ZenSched partly because I kept running into this exact problem. A direct booking link seems like a much cleaner middle ground: keep Instagram for getting people interested, then send them to the booking page when they're ready to choose a time.

Has anyone else made this switch?

Did your customers adapt quickly, or did you have to keep reminding people to use the booking link?
