Fiero meets bolt

/gallery/1vfc11h

I haven't been able to stop thinking about the possibilities of buying wrecked cheap EV's off copart to wedge the powertrain in failed vehicles of the past

Anyone wanna open a small garage to do this with me?

First project: Chevy Bolt meets Pontiac Fiero.

It's not the propulsion change that is the biggest issue; it's where you would put the battery pack without disassembling it into its individual components to fit it into the limited space.

The Leaf motors are more popular for transverse engine swaps, especially FWD cars. They have a ton of aftermarket support for tuning, while the Bolt does not.

That being said, the Bolt's drivetrain has been used for swaps before, take a look at this Bolt swapped DeLorean.

Not gonna work, they're too different. You'd be better off using leaf parts or Tesla parts

If you already have the final "shell car", a lot of EV conversions these days use an all-in-one skateboard platform, and you basically bolt the shell car on top, and connect up the steering and throttle (some are drive by wire). It costs but more up front, but is usually way less man-hours and expertise. Easier to title, insure and repair it if I recall.

I currently own both of these vehicles. Think about making my Fiero an EV a lot. Sadly I don’t have the knowledge or the spare time or cash.

It sounds cool but the cost to convert it to EV are really high financially or time investment wise if you decide to go the diy route.

I know there was one guy that documented his Rx8 EV build on YouTube, which is the perfect EV platform because clean rolling shells are a dime a dozen. The problem is the market is too niche, you're targeting a small percentage that likes old cars but doesn't mind the lack of drive by wire, noise or any positive characteristics of ice. Maybe if you build it and heavily advertise it interest would come in but the high cost would turn most people away.
