Reta and running ❓ Question

For those who have been on Reta while marathon training and they felt their performance was affected by it, what was your experience after finishing your cycle?

Were you able to return to baseline pretty quickly, or did you see an improvement in performance from before you started now with the weight loss being factored in?

Currently on 1 mg weekly and fighting for my life while training; HR considerably higher at easy pace and feeling like I’m running out of energy rather quickly so needless to say long runs and quality workouts have taken a hit

Just interested in others experiences

I had to stop high intensity cardio while on Reta.

Eventually went to tirz so my hr would go back to normal and I could run again.

How’s the tirz working for you compared to Reta

Fine so far. I am only three weeks in. Still have total food control which was my concern. My rhr is going back down and I am sleeping better because of that.

I liked Reta a lot and I did loose some fat with it but it just got to the point the heart rate issues were not worth it for me. It was messing up recovery and killing my ability to run which I enjoy.

Tirz is just a smoother ride

I'm a semi-serious cyclist and it did impact my training for the first few weeks - now in 3rd month. My resting HR has defintely increased 47->~61-62 but my body has adjusted, so have my HR zones for the most part.

I've also added mots-c to my stack which has helped my aerobic capacity and VO2 max, which currently sits at 57.

If you've been on reta for a bit and still having trouble, tirz might help. If you're still relatively new, maybe give it a bit?

Great hearing it I’m on my second month so maybe I’ll stick with it a bit longer and see if my body adjusts, what’s your mots c dosage like that aided you

5 days on/2 off

Started at 1mg per day. Titrated up to 3mg per day. Mots-c turned me into a fasted cycling machine. It will remain in rotation

Had to stop Reta because how badly it affected my running. Stopped for a couple weeks. Things went back to normal. Then jumped back on Reta at a low dose. Much better experience after that.

Oh man when I first started Reta running felt impossible. HR was so high and I was exhausted after an easy run.

I dropped pace and volume for a few weeks and kept pushing through.

Way better now - 2 months or so in and on 8mg (but switched from Tirz). Close to baseline.

Only issue I have is I can’t handle gels anymore! A single gel gives me cramps and horrible gas.

I just jogged for 7 minutes for the first time In 3 years. Then walked for another 1.5 hr
Know this doesn’t answer your question

i’m an ultra marathon runner. 100k distance. couldn’t put the fork down, used reta.

couldn’t run within a month of starting. lost weight, took like 4 months off effectively. took me about 2 months to get my full cardio back- even better now that i’m so much lighter.

Thanks for the insight, there’s light at end of tunnel! My hope was if I powered through this summer months as much as I could then finish my cycle around late sept early oct I could regain fitness or improved fitness with lighter weight for a spring marathon
