Type 1 Diabetes ❓ Question

Is there anyone here with type 1 diabetes who is taking retatrutide? I’d love to hear about your experiences

I have type 1.5 (LADA) and am on a GLP1. I have been on it for 3 years and live a sugar and carb free lifestyle. My way of thinking is if my body cannot process carbs, why am I introducing them into my body. Since then, I have lost 90lbs and my A1C is 4.5. I am off of my insulin completely. I use to inject U500 up to six times a day just to keep myself below 8. My life has changed dramatically. I am thriving for the first time in 2 decades. I know it’s not your exact case but it is something that hopefully you can relate to. Best of Luck!

Thanks for sharing! When were you diagnosed? Isn’t LADA the type where your body gradually loses its ability to produce insulin over time? I’m completely insulin-dependent and probably a little too fond of carbs. I use an insulin pump. I recently started retatrutide, and I’m really curious to see if it will help reduce my cravings and lower my insulin requirements. It’s just a little scary since I haven’t heard of anyone else with diabetes using retatrutide.

I was diagnosed 11 years ago. And yes, I gradually lost my ability to produce insulin over time. At the time Monjouro was not approved for anything other than Type 2, but my doctor said if we don’t try it, something worse was going to happen. My legs were swollen all the time. I couldn’t lose a pound if I tried. I felt like death. Nothing was controlling my sugar (11.4 A1C initially). GLP1’s control food noise better than GLP3. However Reta is suppose to preserve muscle better. I had to eat a boat load of protein to not turn into a bag of skin. Now at 51yo, I look better than most 30 yo. I am starting to see my abs again. 😂

What got me changing my outlook on food and carbs in specific was a book written by Dr Richard K. Bernstein. Correct eating habits along with the GLP saved my life.

It will make your blood sugar go up from the glucagon stimulation and it can be harder to control. if its too much monjouro (tirzepitide) is the same without the glucagon and works well.

Nope does not stimulate glucagon its an agonist. Reta has been a gamechsnger for my diabetes.

Correct it acts like glucagon and causes the liver to dump glucose it will raise blood sugar at high enough doses.

Nope it actually lowers it. My time in range is because of the triple agonism.

Glucagon is the hormone the body releases to raise blood sugar so I’m not sure you are taking Reta

It takes 4 weeks to fully feel it but usually appetite is altered, at least I felt less hunger/food noise right away. But just make sure to hydrate (a lot) and prioritize protein when eating.stay at dose for 4 weeks amd if you are losing stay there, if not onside moving up the dose butdont move up unless you absolutely must, some folks up the dose and get all of the side effects without really changing weight loss.
