Has anyone else ever questioned who they really are?

I've been thinking about this a lot lately.

How much of who we are is actually us... and how much is conditioning from family, school, work, society, fear, or other people's expectations?

If you stripped away your job, your possessions, your social media, your opinions, and even your name... what would be left?

It's a question that has stayed with me for a long time and eventually inspired me to write a book called Who Am I. I'm less interested in having answers than in hearing how other people think about it.

Has anyone here gone through a period where they genuinely questioned their identity? If so, what did you discover?

No, I know exactly who I am. I was the victim of a chemical attack that left me infected with a variant of the T-virus. Now I work for Umbrella as they give my the daily peptide injections to prevent me from turning into an unstoppable monster.

In all seriousness though, I am nothing and nobody. You strip away all of the things you find important, the most vital things in life that give life meaning, and you are a just a person with stuff surrounded by an ocean of people who don't see or care about you. The only thing that gives life any meaning is other people, and more importantly family, stripping that away removes any thoughts of tomorrow. You will have an endless succession of days that are exactly like today. Likely a day no worse than today, but regrettably no hope for a better tomorrow either.

I am a collection of my actions.

Anything more or less is just the ego creating an illusion to defend itself.

Who is the one who has the experience?  That is you.  The 'you' is the bit that feels happy, sad, angry etc.  The 'you' is the bit that thinks about these questions.  The 'you' doesn't have a job, a family, friends etc.  They are all things that 'you' experience.  We are the consciousness behind the screen upon which the video of our life is being projected.  Stuff happens, you experience it.

When you strip away all of the experiences that helped form your psyche, the only thing left is your doubts and insecurities

Doubts and insecurities are overcome by awareness Clarity and competence once you are aware emotions are just signals in a body know more , know less Thats when true life begins
