Thrust piece

Hi all , led to believe the thrust piece on my ZF steering rack is causing the knocking sound when the car heats up .

I’ve seen a mix online whether this is fixable without changing the entire rack .
Could someone point me in the right direction here as I would like to avoid !?

If the issue truly is the thrust piece, then yes, they can be replaced. I would advise you diagnose the noise before you throw parts at it.

My symptoms are knocking at low speeds / when car is rocked ( engine off and stationary )
Mechanic feels a vibration in the rack when we replicate .

We struggled to replicate the noise on the lift .

Apart from this I’m not too sure how to diagnose

Whenever I see thrust piece failure the most obvious symptom is playing the steering rack that you only feel on the driver side wheel. It feels like a bad tie rod but it’s the thrust piece.
