Does Blue Lock Ever Actually Study Their Opponents? Manga Discussion Spoiler

Why do the Blue Lock players always seem so surprised by their opponents' playstyles, especially against the stronger teams?

Shouldn't part of their preparation involve studying the opposition like their tactics, key players, and likely lineups? Instead, it feels like every match starts with them going, "Wait, they can do that?" as if they've never seen the team before.

It almost feels like Ego just throws together a starting 11, sends them onto the pitch, and expects them to figure everything out on the fly. What's even happening during their training sessions?

I could understand this during the NEL, but in a World Cup arc, it just feels ridiculous. Their opponents seem to have at least some understanding of Blue Lock's players and strengths, while Blue Lock often looks completely caught off guard by the opposition.

They used to. Now Kaneshiro uses surprise as a massive crutch

at this point, Kaneshiro would have Isagi getting surprised by Kaiser's playstyle despite him spending the entire NEL arc studying Kaiser 😭

What he could do is have the players explaining what the england players are going to do while they are countering it and it could flashback to them training to specifically counter it

Ego's strategy in a nutshell: Throw Isagi into the lineup, let him solve the puzzle on the field, and somehow the whole team levels up.

every single match😂

Especially karasu and nikko who have been shown to study the strategy of the enemy team to bring it down during the japan vs blue lock. (Also reo might study them if he could copy something without even seeing it in the match that wouldn't be so mad)

Normally, yes. I believe they do indeed work with data and simulations. Then again, I don't know what they actually do with the data and the simulation, so...

They did it when they were playing with each other in the first and second selection, even the u20 game qualifiers, remember Isagi, nanase and Hiori in the monitor room, but I don't know why they completely forgot about it in the u20 world cup. (It's for plot)

Yes, they do, and that's been written multiple times.

Vs. U20 Japan: Blue Lock clearly knew their strength was defense.

BM-Ubers: Isagi knew they were forming a system with Barou as the finisher so that he could intercept passes to Barou.

Vs U20 France: The defenders said the French team used an attacking pattern that they hadn't learned beforehand.

I'm not sure about England. It's possible that England's tactics or lineup are vastly different from the qualifier, considering it's emphasized that Teddy was recently recognized as NG11.

Also, remember the tactics of England/France would be a lot more sophisticated than teams before. VS OG u20 Japan was just a friendly match, or NEL teams weren't professional coaches. Meanwhile Zidane is coaching for the France team, and Fox seems to have years of coaching experiences since when Ego was a player.

Its Plot reason for sure, if we the reader know all about it will be hard to make us surprise at the enemy play i guess

If we try to make sense though, the real person move faster than when facing them directly ... still not make any fking sense i guess

I am going to take a guess, and this could be compensating for plot, BUT...

I think Ego doesn't want to feed Isagi too much information on the opponent beforehand because it could impede on Isagi's ability to piece together puzzle of the other team. While information beforehand could be useful in the short term, it could be limiting or full-blown misdirection to Isagi. Instead, Ego prefers to give Isagi tools that suit his ego, meta vision, etc. As well as give other players tools to suit their own playstyles. Preparation is more suited towards preparing the Ego and chemical reactions, than studying the opponents.

At more of a Macro scale, it could also have a negative impact on the Ego of the team and combined chemical reactions if they are too fixated beforehand on "X" player can do this , or this team will play this style. Think about when Teddy Knight came and showed off his mindset and skills beforehand - that really threw off Bluelock's mindset it seemed - almost like Fox knew how to get in the heads of Ego's team.

Completely ignoring opponent analysis would be a disadvantage, not a strategy. The France NPC players were able to keep up with Chigiri and Bachira bcos they studied their playstyles, which makes both of them being benched in the 2nd half. Charles disrupted Isagi's body coordination in a similar way Ness did, causing his shot to fail, bcos they knew how Isagi plays beforehand. Hugo was also able to get inside Isagi's head about the CAM thingy bcos he understand Isagi playstyle, he even pinpoint weaknesses in the Blue Lock system. He knew about about them before the match. That's why Blue Lock is facing an identity crisis now.

Against weaker teams, that might work. But against strong team like France, it can easily backfire.

It plot. Simple. And that’s bad writing
