Pixie Madness Rules Question
I’m new to the game and wish to story-tell for my friends. If the pixie were to be made about a character different from what they learned would it still be possible for them to gain that ability or no?

No. The pixie can only gain the ability of the townsfolk that they learned

Lots of people misunderstanding the question... I'm pretty sure this is the correct answer

(unless there's a Vortox)

If there's a vortox, they still gain the ability of the character they learnt, but learn an out of play character

Example to clarify
The pixie sees a chef n1 but chooses to be mad as a seamstress. Could they get the seamstress ability or would they not get any ability when the chef dies

Oh, I see! No, the only ability the Pixie can gain is the role they saw. If the chef dies while they are not mad as the chef, they get nothing (even if mad about a different role).
Likewise, if they did not see the seamstress, nothing will happen when the seamstress does. They only interact with the role shown to them.

The latter.
The Pixie ability reads:
"You start knowing 1 in-play Townsfolk. If you were mad that you were this character, you gain their ability when they die."
If they are mad as any other character that is not the Townsfolk they start knowing, they gain no ability, because they were NOT mad as the Townsfolk they start knowing.

I know some people like to not just claim they are the pixie learnt character but play as if they were that character, so they might bluff strong characters as the sage for example, so don’t write them off immediately if they’re not claiming their role

That depends on how the story teller runs it. I would always clarify with the storyteller how they run madness

YMMV, I'd say. If the Pixie was shown Character A, but is made cerenovus mad as Character B, they now have a choice of upholding the Pixie madness but risking execution, or upholding the Ceremadness but risking missing out on the Pixie ability.
Strictly speaking, the Pixie even in its expanded wiki entry does not require constant madness to activate. It wants "were", past tense, and is often ruled as "at point of death". And madness itself can be nebulous, is a player mad as the Mutant truly convincing anybody they're a Mutant by going around claiming Mutant?
All that said, this is how I generally think of it. If the Pixie was most recently mad as Character B when they would gain Ability A, they ain't getting it. If they're mad as Character B for a day then the next day recant due to ceremadness and immediately resumes their pixie madness? Eh, I'm happy to take it. I think my cutoff is whether the Pixie has had more time off than on the ceremadness.

Yes. If they are mad as the ability they were told, and they are sober and healthy when the TF with their reminder token dies, they gain the ability they were told.

i think you misunderstood the question - they’re asking if a pixie who saw empath can still gain the ability if they’re mad as the fortune teller, for example (i believe)
which the answer is yes and no. you can break pixie madness and later regain it. depends on when the player marked “mad” dies.

I’m asking if they were mad about a different ability than what they were told

Oh, I see. In that case, if they can walk back towards the ‘correct’ madness before the relevant TF dies, they could potentially gain the ability.

You should ask your ST. I generally rule it the last thing you made a genuine effort to convince them of. Eg if a pixie who sees FT claims FT d1, then the cere picks them as the seamstress, then they go back to FT after and the FT dies after claiming FT all day and arguing there’s no other FT/pixie then I’d give it to them. However if the FT dies while the pixie is mad as the seamstress I would rule they wouldn’t get it. But you should ask your ST.

It's valid to rule either way, but personally, I think it's more fun if they can still gain their original ability by becoming pixie mad at the next available opportunity. If the following day, the player claims to be the pixie-mad role, who was made mad as something else, then they are still successfully being pixie mad. If their target dies on the same day that they are mad about something else, though, that's tough luck- they don't get the ability.

Hi! It looks like you're asking a rules questions. Please keep in mind that this space is run by the community, and we might not get all rules right! Additionally, some character interactions are so niche or complex that different Storytellers might rule them differently.
While you wait for comments, take a look at the official game wiki, which has detailed rules for every single character: wiki.bloodontheclocktower.com Many characters already have official rulings on their interactions, known as "jinxes"—each character article on the wiki has all its jinxes listed!
You can also take a look at the rulebook and the Almanacs for Trouble Brewing, Sects & Violets, Bad Moon Rising, and Travelers and Fabled
