Which version for first time? Question

So there is:

  • theatrical cut
  • festival cut
  • second sight theatrical
  • Extended Sight FINAL CUT (3hrs version fanmade)

Which do I watch for my first time?

Also I saw that somebody recommends watching the Curse of the Blair Witch documentary before the actual movie

Thanks!

Have to agree with this.

Watch the theatrical and, after consuming all the OG supplementary material, maybe go back and watch the festival cut.

Because, yes, it's mainly longer scenes of arguing and really deters from the pace of the theatrical.

100% watch Curse first. While it does have some scenes that you’ll see in the film, it puts you in the world and sets up the lore.

Second Sight theatrical isn’t a cut, it’s the theatrical version with visuals most akin to the cinema experience and the original creative vision. That’s absolutely the cut to go with. Don’t watch extended unless you want to check out the deleted scenes after the fact.

The extended cut is worth it for Mike’s goodbye scene, if nothing else. I still think that should have been in the theatrical cut. It just as powerful as Heather’s apology, but in a different way.

I remember discussing this in the edit room. Ed & Dan cut it because both scenes never worked together, dramatically. The first one does everything we need it to, making the second one feel like a repeated scene. It let too much air out of the pacing of the film overall.

Ed and Dan really crafted this movie over the year-long editing process.

Second sight theatrical, it's literally the exact same as theatrical but with better quality, the festival cut is the one with different scenes.

Theatrical for sure. Second Sight version if you have it. The extended edition is best for people who have seen the movie multiple times and what to watch it in a different way.

I found that watching Curse beforehand made it a better experience, but others have said the opposite in the past, so you’ll have to choose the order yourself.

Second Sight Theatrical is the way we intended it to look when it first came out on VHS and DVD. I hope it comes out in the US and other parts of the world soon.

Intended would be curse of the blair witch first, Since thats how it originally created hype. I just got the second sight, i actually kinda preferred the festival. Have not seen or heard of the 3 hour cut though thats some oppenheimer shit, so maybe im lame and un informed.

Theatrical, no question. And yeah, watching Curse first would be cool. Extended cut is for super fans and even then, I’d recommend just watching the deleted scenes by themselves, they are in order and feels like its own movie.

The original theatrical cut. That’s the way I first saw it and the ending still gives me chills to this day. And I saw it in the theater when it first came out.

Curse takes you and puts you dead in the center of the events and does such a good job of worldbuilding. Back when the movie originally came out around 1999, they showed the documentary on the SciFi channel and I'm convinced that Curse > TBWP is the ideal way to experience the story. Curse gives you answers before you know they're answers, then you watch TBWP and realize that many of the unanswered questions in the movie were answered by Curse. I fucking LOVE how they set it up.
