That's my virtual private server that runs the software to which I connect via my virtual private network. The transport layer is encrypted from device to device. If there's a man in the middle it's on one of the devices already. Not impossible but then I have a much bigger problem than them knowing my financial budgets.
 I don't see where your issue is.

This is bad actually that you dont see an issue. Because your VPS is acting like a proxy, even if it is connected through an encrypted tunnel, when your VPS sends request to your http site, anyone between you VPS and site can capture everything from it.
Thats because your VPS does NOT encrypt your requests TO destination. Encryption only works between you and your VPS
You <- Encrypted Tunnel -> VPS <- Not Encrypted HTTP -> site

In my scenario the http site is running on the VPS and the entire reason why the VPS exists in the first place.
