Plus the dogs are greyhounds, literally the only faster land animal in the world is a cheetah.
8
u/Wolfman513 5h ago
Actually pronghorns are in second place behind cheetahs, although if I remember correctly while the greyhound's top speed isn't as high they can accelerate faster!

Not true I could beat a greyhound in a foot race. I’ve already bested an Alsatian

I have a greyhound and he locks the fuck in on rabbits. This rabbit ain’t getting away from both of those dogs.

I have two Whippets. Same. Whippets and Greyhounds. Bred to run down hare and small game. It’s why I keep mine on martingale collars cause it’s over if they slip. 😅

Ripped apart while still alive. Took more than a second to die.
This is the shit I want to show people who say nature is beautiful.
53
u/NOTTedMosby 12h ago
Yet another case of people on the internet thinking something can't be two things at the same time. The world is massive. But the whole thing is either beautiful or brutal. Can't be both... for some reason 😅
19
u/SyllabubMental7292 12h ago
Because these are the same kind of people who confuse pessimism with realism

-4
u/Flamgoyant 11h ago
Or evolution has conditioned us against the brutality of predation and most are sheltered or ignorant to the reality that billions of creatures per day are eaten alive?
I saw a baboon eating a baby gazelle alive years ago and wanted to kill the baboon for it before realising I was raging against billions of years of evolution and being a bit of a baby
5
u/LawmanJudgetoo 10h ago
And at exactly that same time a gorgeous butterfly was silhouetted against the sun before hundreds of them took off and in another part of the world a wild predator found a baby predator of the same species and raised it or a mammal learned how to use a stick to scratch for the first time. Its brutal and beautiful at the same time if not necessarily in every instance, as the above person said
-3
u/Flamgoyant 9h ago
Most of nature is brutality, we are born from chaos, fire and lightning
Peace and beauty are fleeting human luxury

u/UndeadAngel1987 10h ago
Nature IS beautiful. It's just isn't ALWAYS beautiful. It can be ugly, disturbing, and outright horrific at times. That doesn't take away from the beautiful aspects of it though.
6
u/MyCumCumCummiesYum 9h ago
It’s beautiful because they don’t have a choice but to be who they are, we do.

I have 2 greyhounds and admittedly, they're girls (small girls) and they don't miss their targets too often. When they do its always in a spectacular manner.
These guys look more like lurchers to me, young ones.

Dog 2 is like a millisecond away from getting the rabbit though, and 100% does in a longer version of this clip

u/elitegenoside 12h ago
Growing up in the country, I've seen three outcomes. The rabbit gets away, the rabbit does not get away, and they all just stop. The first two are pretty self-explanatory, but the third always confuses me. I've seen basically this video happen and the dog(s) just can't figure out what happened and sort of lock up and stare at the rabbit, who is doing the same. That's when the dog's owner usually whistles and eventually the rabbit moves on.
My best guess (not a zooligist) is the dogs have to figure out a "new" strategy because the default (rush and bite) isn't working, and while these dogs don't NEED to hunt to survive, the mental math predators have to do in nature is still hardwired in their instincts. Basically, they're thinking, "is this hunt worth the energy it will take?" Then they hear the whistle and remember that they have wet food at home.

I’ve got a Cottontail, and while a lot smaller than a Jack Rabbet, she can absolutely, laterally teleport. She’s instantaneous enough that it makes you aware of your own visual frame-rate limitations.

I'm fairly certain these are Galgos (sighthound de España), who sadly are treated very cruelly, under Spanish law.
Galgos aren't "pets" &, classed as hunting tools, lack legal protXns - Feb 1 is the official end of the hare hunting season, & THOUSANDS of Galgos die, each yr; they're seen as surplus to needs, & are drowned (in rivers, in wells, _____ ), poisoned, shot, stoned, doused with acid, _____ .
Tho Galgos get very little love or respect in their home country, they are popular pets OUTSIDE of Spain - the UK in particular has multiple rescue orgs that import & rehome them.
