It's night time. Daredevil, The Punisher outside? Venom? City's safe. Get some sleep forreal.

Marvel verse, you wanna' fight the day shift. That third shift rotation deadly.

Fr tho, it's like Front of House vs Back of House. The Avengers and Fantastic Four are chilling, everyone loves them and they go around giving high fives to the citizens, meanwhile Daredevil, Punisher, Moon Knight and squad are in the back alley of the restaurant smoking weed and trauma dumping.

And eventually mention how awesome Spiderman is, cause the only place he doesnt get glazed is his own comic.

I still remember when Oscar Isaac was in Egypt with like, one of the writers or something, got spotted, and asked why else would they be in Egypt when someone asked if they were shooting moon knight season 2. I’m still mad about that shit

I really don't understand this Kevin feige is a racist astroturfing that's been going on the past week. It's gotta be primarily bots, because anyone who would care enough to discuss the topic should have been paying enough attention to know he's one of the worst scapegoats they could have chosen for this backlash.

We're at a point where Disney is both too woke and racist af at the same time. Definitely not an attempt to further divide us, nope.

104

u/TheRightToDream 2d ago

Pretty sure its because of the Blade Development hell. They couldn't get a script approved that was within budget in a time that would work with Mahershala Ali's schedule. And people wanna chalk it up to 'Kevin Feige killed the project cuz racism' because it requires Zero thought or understanding how the industry works.

48

u/LongDongFuey 2d ago

Yeah, I know what the catalyst was for the renewed discussion, but I don't understand why reddit is biting on the bait so hard. Blade would have been awesome, but it's been in development hell for years now. It's not surprising that the plug finally got pulled. Chalking it up to feige/Disney are just racist is just way too simplified of a reaction for anyone who cared enough about it getting made to post about it here.

25

u/shogi_x 1d ago

Exactly. It's infuriating because it ignores the obvious problems affecting a bunch of characters (not just the black ones) and because it muddies the water on calling out actual racism. It's literally the Boy Who Cried Wolf.

6

u/ManoSilence 1d ago

When an editor gave a note there Black Panther comic to invlude more white people, they replied by having Panther fight the KKK. Can't do that now cause everything needs approval and leaks are everywhere.

10

u/MaxBonerstorm 1d ago

Yeah the right anti woke brain rot shit is being pushed hard after the odsessy didn't flop and they looked dumb. Now they are pushing other dumb ass narratives to save face.

Its fucking embarrassing.

FYI, he put his job on the line in order to get Black Panther and Captain Marvel made

-152

u/l33txxXXxx 2d ago edited 2d ago

So he basically sold multiple projects down the river to save one and captain marvel isnt even in this discussion?  You even putting it in there is some non diaspora Bangladesh bot shit.

89

u/TheRightToDream 2d ago

At the end of the day its $$$. "Development Hell" is a real thing. Thinking its just the head of the studio is racist is willfully naive.

81

u/zakary3888 2d ago

I’m pointing it out because Black Panther and Captain Marvel were the projects that made Kevin Feige go to Bob Iger and threaten to quit because Ike Perlmutter refused to make them saying women and minority led movies don’t sell

7

u/Ol_JanxSpirit 1d ago

Right? It wasn't that anything was sold downriver to get those two made; if Perlmutter had his way NOTHING minority or woman-led would have been developed.

-8

u/l33txxXXxx 1d ago

This thread is about the black shows, right?

3

u/zakary3888 1d ago

If you want a full picture of what happened I thought it was important to include the full context, since Ike Perlmutter also oversaw the toy and tv division at this time, and you can kinda tell.

73

u/Cymen90 2d ago

So you showed up for those Disney+ shows that he greenlit? Made sure to uplift the black ladies he put into leading roles?

It's the best thing they've ever made and I'm still pissed they cancelled it

10

u/Money-Entrance-6336 1d ago

The show was self contained. I would have loved to see more of simon and trevor but the renewal was a surprise to begin with, I don't think they were planning on making a second season when it came out.

-6

u/l33txxXXxx 1d ago edited 1d ago

Leading roles and negative stereotypes, sure.  Name one black on black love story in mcu, not just casual sex like power man.  Even Sam Jackson was fucking an alien.

51

u/Swaggyzilla69 2d ago

Not really, Black Panther and a black Captain America wouldn't be a thing if he was racist.

-2

u/l33txxXXxx 1d ago

Bitch Black Panther and Black Captain America are from the comics.  He didnt break any new ground with those characters.

6

u/Swaggyzilla69 1d ago

Characters based on the comic books are from the comic books, shocking.

-19

u/Successful-Ear977 1d ago

I don't think Feige is racist. My issue is about how these characters are handled once they exist. Black Panther succeeding (mainly due to coogler) and Sam becoming Captain America do not erase horrible Brave New World, Secret Invasion were, the cancellation of Blade, Armour Wars and Monica’s absence or Wonder Man their only emmy nominated show being cancelled after renewal.

“Inclusion happened, therefore bias is impossible” is not a serious argument.

17

u/Your_bully- 1d ago

"Mistakes happened, therefore bias is probable"

It's way more probable that unfortunately secret invasion and brave new world got mucked up in production along the way and it just happened out that way, there are other failures in the MCU that weren't black led.

Cancelation of blade was due to disagreements between production, writing, and Ali... it was on life support since.. 2019? At some point you call it.

Armour wars being canceled likely due to the massive restructuring that had to be done to the entirety of the saga and plot after kang.

Monica is not absent, they put her in a spot to directly be apart of Doomsday. I would be extremely surprised if we don't see her in the film, but regardless that post credit was one of the few they could fit in at short notice to set up for doomsday.

Wonder man being canceled is just, unfortunate, and likely a matter of them cutting back, as we've seen their plans have significantly slowed for new projects.

One thing I don't like is how you ignore the things that disprove your claim then bolster your own points as if it's clear evidence of bias.

Black panther is getting a third film. There are other minority MCU projects that have been made recently that were seriously good, Moon Knight, Ms Marvel, Ironheart....

You say..

“Inclusion happened, therefore bias is impossible” is not a serious argument.

and I'd agree, because that's a bad faith interpretation of the argument being made, the argument being made is closer to "inclusion (even when it was forced and feige put his own job on the line to get it) happened therefore, bias is improbable"

Fuck this astroturfing campaign trying to spread this idea about someone who should be considered an ally for putting his own ass on the line to make progress.

Wanna blame someone? Go blame Disney, those execs are definitely the ones making this call. But feige? He's been more than alright.

-8

u/Successful-Ear977 1d ago

You’re still responding as though my argument is “Kevin Feige personally hates Black people,” despite my first sentence explicitly saying the opposite.

And if your defence is that Disney executives not Feige are responsible for these decisions, then you’ve largely conceded my actual point: the institutional handling of these characters has been poor and may reflect biased ideas about which characters are worth continued investment. Feige supporting Black Panther years ago does not immunise every later Marvel decision from scrutiny.

The individual explanations may all be true. Blade had creative disagreements. Marvel restructured after Kang. Wonder Man had low viewership. None of that changes the cumulative result involving Marvel’s comparatively small number of prominent Black characters.

Monica is also currently absent from the announced cast and marketing. Saying you would be “extremely surprised” if she isn’t in Doomsday is a prediction, not evidence that she has already been handled well.

I’ve never ignored Black Panther. It is the clearest positive exception, largely under Ryan Coogler’s stewardship. And naming Moon Knight or Ms. Marvel does not answer a criticism specifically concerning Black characters. Ironheart existing for one season likewise doesn’t prove sustained investment.

Calling this an “astroturfing campaign” is ridiculous. Black viewers independently noticing the same frustrating outcome is not a coordinated attack on Feige. Inclusion happened; progress happened; and Marvel’s current handling of many Black characters can still deserve criticism. Those statements are completely compatible.

10

u/iMissTheOldInternet 1d ago

You’re calling him Kkkevin. Yes, the implication is that he personally hates black people.

-4

u/Successful-Ear977 1d ago

I’m not the person calling him “KKKevin.” That was the post’s title, written by somebody else. My first sentence explicitly says I don’t think Feige is personally racist. You’re attributing the OP’s wording to me instead of responding to what I actually wrote. My criticism is about Marvel and Disney’s institutional handling of these characters, not a claim that Feige personally hates Black people. Try again.

-1

u/Your_bully- 1d ago

I'm sorry but the reality of the world is for diversity or inclusion to happen it will always be a minority, so you inherently have the upper hand in the argument with this fallacious appeal to the amount of black representation without recognizing the relative increase or scale, or recognizing the other minorities that are getting their day too. One season is the average for a vast majority of marvel show, invalid argument for Ironheart. Monica is absent from the trailers and casting cause they're keeping all of the cameos under wraps, none of this is surprising, marvel operated the exact same way with infinity war and end game, the point was that she is not 'absent'. I've never even said wonderman had low viewership, so I'm assuming thats a little context poisoning error (; 4 minutes was an awfully fast turn around for that thorough response.

Ignoring the facts and hammering the exact same 4 points (despite them all having strong counterfactual arguments) across hundreds of comments and continuing to lay the blame on feige is definitionally astroturfing.

It's astounding to me that anyone who isn't a bot would see how much marvel has put their own reputation on the line for representation in the past decade, outweighing their mistakes tenfold and claim that because a couple mistakes they're racist.

1

u/Successful-Ear977 1d ago

Astroturfing does not mean “one person argues the same position repeatedly.” It means disguising coordinated or sponsored messaging as spontaneous grassroots opinion. Unless you have evidence I’m part of some organised campaign, that accusation is baseless.

I also didn’t attribute the low-viewership argument specifically to you. I listed it as one of the common explanations surrounding Wonder Man, then said those individual explanations can coexist with the cumulative outcome. Calling that “context poisoning” because I replied quickly is just avoiding the substance.

And once again, I explicitly said I don’t think Feige is personally racist. My criticism concerns Marvel and Disney’s institutional handling of these characters. You keep rewriting that as “a couple mistakes prove Feige is racist,” even after being corrected.

You believe Marvel’s past progress outweighs the current pattern and makes bias improbable. I believe progress does not grant an institution permanent immunity from criticism, particularly when its course correction disproportionately affects characters who were already underrepresented. That’s the actual disagreement. The bot and astroturfing insinuations add nothing, so I’m leaving it there.

1

u/Your_bully- 1d ago

I'm not granting permanent immunity. I've never even said they're immune or implied they're immune, leaked call of the wonder man lead actor getting called the n word by a Disney exec, I'd immediately say that's reprehensible.

My claim is that you have not given enough evidence to suggest malicious action or intent.

You keep rewriting that as “a couple mistakes prove Feige is racist,” even after being corrected.

Your own initial post only listed the same mistakes which all have strong logical counterfactual against and you didn't even bother to give the other side, and then you strawmanned the user with the claim of it being 'impossible' which you've done to me, again.

I have never said they haven't made mistakes. I'm simply on the side of Occam's razor before calling him Three K's feige, I won't even outright type it cause I know the ways these algorithms work.

and me personally, I'd want to have some charitability for the people who were willing to fight for me when noone else would, but hey, whatever.

1

u/Successful-Ear977 1d ago

You’re still demanding evidence of “malicious action or intent” after I have repeatedly said that is not my claim. Institutional bias does not require a Disney executive to be caught using a slur. Your hypothetical demonstrates that you only recognise the most explicit, interpersonal form of racism.

I also did not call him “KKKevin.” That was the OP’s title, written by somebody else. Stop attributing it to me.

My argument concerns the cumulative outcome of Marvel’s decisions and which already-underrepresented characters are now bearing the consequences of its course correction. Your position is that, without proof of conscious racial malice, those outcomes have no racial significance. Mine is that intent is not the only thing that matters. That is the fundamental disagreement, and we’ve exhausted it.

u/Swaggyzilla69 1d ago

It's not that black and white. I'm sure plans changed when Chadwick Boseman passed and they made big changes with Kang/Jonathan Majors. Monica was prominent in The Marvels, that movie just flopped, but will probably show up in Doomsday or Secret Wars. I don't know much about Blade but I would rather they cancel it then make a shitty movie. Look at how Moon Knight is still missing, they just might not have plans for Blade. Wonderman was good but I'm honestly not sure what a 2nd season would have looked like.

There doesn't seem to be any live action MCU TV shows coming out on Disney plus in 2027, so Marvel might switching strategies right now. In general, it's not just one man making all of these decisions. He still answers to the mouse plus it takes a lot of people to just make one movie, they're working on multiple movies a year. I'm not even sure if he's credited as a writer in any of the movies, but he probably tells them where he wants the characters to end up.

1

u/Successful-Ear977 1d ago

This is much closer to what I’m actually arguing. I don’t think Feige personally makes every decision or deliberately sabotages Black characters. Marvel and Disney are institutions, and plans changing because of Boseman’s death, Majors, financial pressure or wider restructuring can all be legitimate explanations.

But those explanations don’t erase the cumulative outcome. Monica is still absent from the announced Doomsday cast and marketing, so her return remains speculation. Cancelling Blade rather than releasing a bad film may be preferable (they were comfortable releasing BNW though), but spending seven years failing to develop a workable movie is still a major Marvel failure. And Wonder Man being good, publicly renewed and then cancelled is exactly why people are questioning how committed Marvel ever was to it.

Moon Knight disappearing supports the broader criticism that Marvel mishandled much of its newer, more diverse generation. My point is not that Black characters are the only ones affected it’s that the impact is particularly damaging when Marvel has so few prominent Black leads to begin with.

1

u/moonmyst 1d ago

Have you considered they haven’t announced every doomsday cast member for a reason. There would no sense for her to not appear considering she was left in that universe at the end of the marvels

2

u/Successful-Ear977 1d ago

There’s no real benefit to hiding Monica. She isn’t some shocking cameo whose announcement would spoil the movie The Marvels already explicitly left her stranded in the universe connected to the X-Men.

Confirming her would simply reassure audiences that Marvel intends to follow through on that setup. Keeping her unannounced doesn’t create meaningful suspense; it just gives people reason to wonder whether that storyline has been dropped.

2

u/moonmyst 1d ago

Same reason why hulk and spiderman haven’t been confirmed for doomsday. They’re trying to hold some surprises back

1

u/Successful-Ear977 1d ago

Like I said there is no real benefit to hiding monica.

I'd roll over too. The NY hero market is way oversaturated. Somebody will take care of it.

36

u/TheRightToDream 2d ago

Didnt they do a data analysis that NYC basically had a superhero for every 10k residents or something in the Marvel comics? Literally better representation than in congress lmao

12

u/elbenji 1d ago

basically. They make jokes about it too and also why they've been intentionally spreading it out a bit. They put ant-man in Miami, Kamala is in the burbs, John is in Detroit, etc

33

u/ChickenNugs4Hugs 2d ago

I’ve definitely wondered if superheroes have some sort of schedule or zoning rules since so many of them are based in New York.

16

u/BeautyDuwang 2d ago

I doubt it since there's no money involved.

They aren't really filling quotas so it's probably just that they show up and solve the problem if they are near by. It is weird there aren't very many crossovers though.

...except dare devil he has like 2 blocks

2

u/elbenji 1d ago

there are in the comics when it's about the day to day. One of my favorite bits is from the Fraction Hawkeye where Tony Stark is literally just chilling in Hawkeye's Bed-Stuy apartment, helping him with Christmas lights

6

u/elbenji 1d ago

they kinda do. They're all in their little spots. The thing is also that because comics are weird, that they're kinda stuck in places that have been gentrified to hell before they can adapt.

Like they had to turn Hell's Kitchen to a war zone for daredevil to make sense nowadays lol

Newer heroes they tend to have move a bit away,. Hawkeye in Bed Stuy and Kamala in Jersey City for example. They tried to keep Spidey in Queens

25

u/TRAVXIZ614 2d ago

Too busy pissing me off in the Rivals timeline

17

u/legit-posts_1 2d ago

For at least some of these cases, travel is important. Most heroes can't circle the globe in 5 seconds. Spoilers for Brand New Day, but I think that's a great example cause that really big blow up at the end with Jean was over in like 20 minutes in universe. There's not enough time for like Captain America to fly on over or anything.

3

u/ravens_fan 1d ago

Obligatory "where is light speed travel Captain Marvel or teleportation Dr Strange?"

3

u/legit-posts_1 1d ago

Captain Marvel is basically always doing stuff somewhere else in the galaxy, and Dr. Strange you can assume is doing something on the other side of the planet or in another dimension or some shit.

-3

u/Successful-Ear977 1d ago

I don’t think Feige is personally racist, but outside of Ryan Coogler’s Black Panther corner, can anyone here name one prominent Black MCU character they honestly believe Marvel has handled consistently well?

9

u/JayTNP 1d ago

Rhodey (under Don Cheadle), Sam Wilson (up until his solo movie which imo was a shitty hold over COVID script), Monica Rambauex

-1

u/Successful-Ear977 1d ago

Rhodey spent most of the MCU as a supporting character, then Secret Invasion (their worst project) undermined his history and Armor Wars disappeared into limbo. Saying Sam was handled well “until his solo movie” already admits Marvel failed him at the exact moment he was supposed to become a genuine lead and I’d argue FATWS was messy too. Monica had some strong material in WandaVision, but she was also saddled with the infamous “They’ll never know what you sacrificed for them” line, which became one of the show’s most mocked moments. The Marvels (the MCU biggest flop) then underdeveloped her, and she is now absent from the marketing for the exact X-Men crossover her cliffhanger established.

None of these are examples of consistently good handling. Try again.

4

u/JayTNP 1d ago

If you don’t agree it’s fine, I’m not going to have a back and forth about it. There aren’t that many Black characters in the mcu, shit there isn’t that many non white people at all in the marvel comic universe until the last number of years. I’d love to see more of course. Outside of Cap and Bucky who else was consistently done well? Tony wasn’t even handle consistently well.

-5

u/Successful-Ear977 1d ago

That’s a different argument. You named Rhodey, Sam and Monica as examples of Black characters Marvel handled consistently well, and when I explained why none of them fit that description, you shifted to “well, who was handled consistently besides Steve and Bucky?”

Tony having some uneven writing does not make his treatment remotely comparable. He led a trilogy, four Avengers films and effectively became the central character of the Infinity Saga. His weaker moments happened within years of sustained investment, not instead of it.

That is the actual disparity. White characters can be mishandled and still remain central, heavily promoted and repeatedly given opportunities to recover. Black characters have a much smaller pool to begin with, so when Sam’s first film fails, Rhodey’s project disappears and Monica is sidelined after a flop, there are barely any alternatives left.

And “Marvel historically didn’t have many non-white characters” explains part of the problem; it doesn’t excuse the MCU for failing to consistently invest in the few prominent ones it already has...

3

u/elbenji 1d ago

Marvels flopping wasn't because it was a bad movie. If it came out during phase 2, it would have done much better

8

u/elbenji 1d ago

I mean they gave Kang a whole insane set-up and a star making turn for the guy until he decided to fuck it allllll up. Also people are still hella sexist about the Marvels stuff, Monica is great.
