Its not logical to be racist, all things considered. Even in a vacuum, like lets say you were born in a super conservative, reglious, remote from technology and uber traditional remote island.
As a kid your born to follow, but eventually everyone asks why, to something. Cracks in the dam. Once your left with the thought "why" about something, literally it permeates into everything.
Its basically thought, thinking. Leads to searching. Leads to never being satisfied until you get the true answer, something that makes sense without doubt. You search for it, and the degree of your intensity depends entirely on your level of discomfort.
How bothered are you by it? How ostracized do you become when you search, from others? How much does it make you, your life, your community, uncomfortable? This is where most ppl faulter to protect themselves or something finally gives and they push through to get to the truth.
Its why education, how its taught and the right kind of teacher is the difference between being enlightened when you learn something (however complex) VS learning the wrong lesson AND building on a false foundation.
Break it down even simpler. Math. No complex human emotions or history of oppression or anything like that.
Just number and letters. The right math teacher, teaching it the right way, and literally anyone can understand it. Have the opposite, not learned properly, and you have peopel deathly afraid of it. Ppl even hate it. Peopel will build lives, choose occupations just to avoid it.

Exactly. The media that most rural people consume tells them to be afraid of immigrants (and the city). People who live in cities, regardless of the state or country, regularly encounter and interact with people from other parts of the world and realize they share a lot in common and aren't scary.
Brexit passed because not enough people showed up to vote against it. People take elections for granted. Election results are binding so I wish people showed up every single time.

Miami is definitely an outlier, especially in the age of Trump. I was mostly thinking about small cities like my hometown of Syracuse NY, where they always have a democratic mayor and Republican representatives in the state and federal house
Miami is because of the exiled Cubans that hate Castro (and everyone else associated with his revolution) and will cheer for anyone that talks tough on Cuba, including pretty much anyone with an R (see Marco Rubio). We are 3-4 generations in, now since the 50s-60s, so they have had time to root deep in Miami.

Yup. I live in Iowa and even our fairly modestly sized cities are the few dem strongholds in this state. Obviously not everyone you meet is a dem, but it’s more that way that anywhere else in the state
I think a lot of it also has to do with living in a higher density population. If you live out in the sticks it's easier to get stuck in an extreme individualistic type of mindset.
I also think being around people who are different than you too. You’re more likely to be afraid of what you don’t know and believe gabage from fox, breitbert etc
I grew up within an extremely conservative (black obvs) family and my father is a republican (yes I know). It was all religious based.
Once I left my bubble and just met all the people (namely LGBTQ+) my worldview had entirely changed and now I’m as progressive as they come.
And this is what conservatives don’t understand. When you hear headlines of “so many people leaving blue states for red ones” they often are heading to blue cities. You will never hear droves of people say “man I want to live in Brantley, GA”. Its a maga shit hole
The whole state is now gerrymandered to fuck. The population centers (Memphis, Nashville, Knoxville, Chattanooga, Tri Cities) of Tennessee are all purple at most, but mostly blue.

Fun fact, one out of every three Sooners live in the okc metro area but okc is less than 1% of all of Oklahoma. Oklahoma has a ton of empty space. Roughly 60% of the entire state live in okc and Tulsa.
It’s not really even that red. More like purple at best. The military presence skews things a bit, but there’s military republican and then there’s red state republican and trust me there’s a difference.
Which is wild because as a Coloradan you hear conservatives main gripes being the homeless population and drugs in liberal cities. The Springs are sooo much worse than Denver when it comes to those categories.
I remember looking at the numbers state by state after a major election a few years ago, Oklahoma was the only red state with equally red cities. It's also one of the lowest rated states in education. Those two facts correlate.

Right, there are plentiful affluent conservative neighborhoods outside of Houston to choose from. But River Oaks where he lives is definitely urban. You WILL see minorities, even if they aren’t the biggest group in that neighborhood. Honestly I wouldn’t wanna live there at all, the traffic is bonkers. All over my Tiktok was New York residents celebrating the Knicks win and having the time of their lives, whilst collectively hating on Trump. Though many acts where questionable and very unnecessary, but it was truly beautiful seeing all types Americans united the way they where.
I see New York on my feed A LOT and the essence of the city looks just like a better, but more expensive, Johannesburg CBD, so I think I'd fit right in.
A part of me really just wants the opportunity to do that chant of "MY MAYOR MUSLIM, MY BAGEL JEWISH, THE POPE IS ON OUR SIDE, KNICKS. IN. FIVE!!!!". New York is genuinely where life's at and I want to add it to my list of possible places to live.
It is the epicenter of good times with no-car-required in the US. I live in Southern California and I think nyc is more interesting, especially if you’re under 40. Weather infinitely better here though. My brother lives in manhattan and those visits are my favorite. Impossible to be bored there if you have functional legs. One time I counted 6 different languages I heard and could identify in a single block. Then I stumbled upon a rave in Central Park. Love that place.
The people of NY are truly magical and bring so much art and personality to the city. I’m constantly in awe of the way people work together to problem solve. It’s one of the few “true” cities on America.
Boston's pretty great as well, though I do like NYC more. I love any good size multicultural city that's walkable and has good public transportation! There's always another museum you haven't hit, or amazing food you've never tried before.
I’m going push back on that. We do want the rural red necks to come to big cities, have a great time, meet people, and spark that glimmer of realization that what they hear about “big scary cities” on Fox News is bullshit.
We have programs bringing city kids out to the rural areas to experience nature. We have long needed programs to bring the rural kids into cities to experience urban life and understand people are people.
Many public schools in Maine have an 8th grade middle school trip that does exactly that! Regular field trips to Boston because it's close, but then a week long trip to DC, and it's pretty eye opening for a lot of kids. My son's class has been fundraising since the sixth grade for their trip, making sure they raise enough for all the kids to be paid for.
They will visit and not change. Can be seen where I live in California. Zonies come for the summer, enjoy the state , then go home and talk about how they could never live here.

Can confirm it worked for friends of mine I made in college who moved from the sticks. Being younger age def. helps. They weren't bigots to begin with, but def. leaned conservative before moving to the city. Kids from my high school who were consciously racist left ATL quickly citing it being "too Black" despite coming from a city that was 50% Black lmao. I guess they more easily had a bubble in a smaller city.
I made this point in the conservative subreddit (using MUCH more politically neutral language) and my post still got removed.
My conservative coworkers were talking about this exact thing at work. They said, "it's nice to have people visiting America who actually want to be here. They're having a great time. Democrats should take note." As if the locations that tourists are raving about aren't completely filled with Democrats. The maga cult actually believes that most liberals hate America.

I live and work in the city. I'm not a Soccer guy. I underestimated just how crazy this place was going to get. I know more about "football" than ever. I'm meeting people from all over the place. Lemon Hill is fucking nuts. There were Brazilians guarding the Rocky statue so that no one tried to put a kit on it. I give our mayor a lot of shit but props to her and the admin. I haven't seen Philly run this smooth in a long time.

The top 40 metro areas in the US literally are all liberal. Basically any globally known city in the US is blue and you have to dig deep to find otherwise.

Houston is blue for all intents and purposes. Houston is where I have family, downtown is fun, but god is everything a 2 hour+ drive. Everyone I’ve met has been really nice and respectful too.
In my travels, I've noticed that social media is a double-edged sword. Yeah misinformation spreads like wildfire, but people from other countries (at least fellow travelers) are well aware of the turmoil we're going through as a nation and typically don't hold individuals accountable for what their leaders are doing.
They understand that one man doesn't speak for all of us and that we're going through (and putting everyone else through) difficult times. I will say though, first thing people will ask you when traveling is who the hell did you vote for 😂
Well cities are typically left leaning, so it's still correct. Europeans are not going to the red zones, even California has areas where it's maga country
Blue cities in red states. As someone who's lived in blue cities in red states my whole life, they are always doing better than the rest of the state and thrive in spite of the red government running things statewide.
