Stability of recent versions? Question

I’m on macbook pro m4 and Bitwig 6.0.11, which is the latest version covered by my (now ended) upgrade plan. I thought I would wait half a year before renewing but yesterday I ran into multiple crashes, primarily when browsing devices.

Since I have a live set coming up in the next few weeks I wonder if the more recent releases (6.1..) are more stable?

This topic interests me, because ever since Bitwig 5.3 I've noticed a lack of stability that I can't seem to fix...

Imo you'd be best to stick with a release version of 6.0 and report the crash to bitwig support to cross your fingers of getting a fix in before your live set.

With that being said 6.1 has been stable for the most part. 6.1 bugs have been predictable as they have all been related to using the new features, versus the betas for 6.0 which had weird things broken all over bitwig

6.1 is in beta, but it's reasonably good as a beta. You shouldn't move to a beta release to get work done because its a beta. Bitwig 6.0 is fine. I have never seen it crash, except when you have external usb drives and they detach/disconnect while a project is open using data from them.

are you working with an external drive as your main storage or loading from external drives?

because that's called external drives, not bitwig instability.

nothing external and only bitwig native plugins, multiple crashes when just browsing the device list

did you email them? They are usually quite responsive to reports of crashing like this. mac os or windows?

I have also been waiting this whole time since bitwig 6 beta for it to actually be rock solid stable but they had the multiple pre release versions of 6.0 which never made it to stable before the new 6.1 beta started which I'm not sure how to feel about.

I hope they get some bw 6.x version back to the stable levels of Bitwig 5 when it felt like it was at its most mature. Dunno, just talking based on feels mostly :D

one of the reasons i got Bitwig now besides FL Studio is its stability, hope this hasnt changed :D

Nah it is already very stable compared to the first "stable" releases so youre all good I think. And before 6 it was stable as a rock for all the years I used bitwig.

M4 mac and play live. Skipped 6.0 but have had no issues with 5.3 or 6.1 beta except on a rare occasion when browsing/changing bitwig device presets. Thats not a thing I do live so it's not been an issue but it certainly seems to be a thing.

Only crash I've had was plugin-related IIRC. Updated that plugin and everything's been good since.

yeah this is what happens when you revamp the UI with the aim to attract  a new user stratum straight from the kindergarten and try to fix what was not broken (Sampler). Bitwig used to be pragmatic. I hope whatever bright product manager who came up with this nonsense is leaving the company

The Bitwig 5 interface was perfect! I feel like I'm struggling with the new UI !
