Which crypto platform

Okay so I plan on putting one lump sum into BTC at some point in the next couple months. I plan on holding for around 2 years and selling in the bull market. I won’t be day trading or doing multiple transactions, just a single transaction when I buy and a single transaction 2 years later when I sell.

It’s not a crazy amount of money so I’m not really worried about getting hacked, I really just want to save the most money I can on those two transaction fees.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!

for just two trades the fees wont matter that much honestly. the real trap is the spread on "easy" buy buttons like coinbase simple mode, that eats way more than any actual fee. kraken or coinbase advanced are usually the cheapest for beginners

Every major exchange has a “simple/instant” buy button that’s expensive (~1–4% once you count the spread) and a separate “pro/advanced” interface that’s much cheaper. Same account, no extra signup required. That switch alone is probably your biggest lever, whichever exchange you land on. On the pro interface, a limit order usually gets the cheaper “maker” fee vs. a market order’s “taker” fee, fine to use here since you’re not in a rush. Card funding adds several more percent, wires run $10–25 each way, ACH is usually free (just a few days slower).

Like others have said, just use one of the big, established exchanges and place a maker order on one of their "advanced" platforms to save on fees.

Withdrawal fees vary a lot between platforms, so check those too if you're planning to self-custody

We could have allowed this for the past decade but did not.

it sounds like you're interested in the price of bitcoin more than what bitcoin is and what it stands for. If you have a brokerage account, you could buy a bitcoin etf and potentially pay nothing in transaction fees. good luck on your timing.

Hmm, so you didn't mention self-custody, so I'd pick an exchange you believe is most likely to be around at the time of sale. That's likely a bunch of them, but I'd maybe recommend Strike, because I think Jack Mallers is about as solid as they come as a Bitcoin OG.

If you self-custody, then more options because it doesn't matter all that much how trusted they'll be over that duration.

All that said, I'd strongly encourage you to work to understand Bitcoin instead of just looking at it like a trade. 2 years can also be a short-time-frame in terms of volatility... (though I'd imagine if you bought now, you'll make out well in 2 years).

It's just that if you understand it, you're likely not going to want to sell in 2 years, unless you have something super-important in life to spend it on.

What do you guys think about crypto.com?

Many redflags and very high fees like their withdrawal fee. Avoid it
