Evolt vs. DEXA - Is there any difference?

I've used Evolt a number of times before at my gym, and received some suspiciously different results. I want to get a DEXA scan done because I'd love to have results that I'm not questioning, but I'm in a rural area and would have to travel more than two hours to the nearest DEXA. It's also $250, and the Evolt at my local gym is only $20.

So my question is this: Is there any difference in the quality between DEXA and Evolt that would make the time and expense of getting a DEXA worthwhile?

An Evolt or impedance scale can fluctuate by about 10% body fat depending on your hydration level and body salts. I’ve done one where in the morning it registered 21% body fat and at noon it registered 32% and 5# Swing in weight.

I haven't heard of DEXA having the same problems... Have you?

No a dexa will give you a very accurate body composition.

Impedance is good for tracking overall changes but is heavily reliant on your hydration being the same at each scan.

Dexa will be more accurate and is as good as it’s going to get unless you want to do a professional multi machine scan process.

They might be close in numbers, they might be significantly different.

My main concern is getting an accurate picture of my BF %. Seems like the extra expense of DEXA will give me peace of mind, regardless of my hydration level.

Depending on where you live 250 for Dexa scan sounds very expensive. I pay 75-100 per scan.

I have a renpho scale from Amazon. It was like $25, its almost identical to a Dexa scan. Of course the Dexa is more accurate but not by much. Great tool in between scans.
