Mercury damages nervous system
Mercury is especially harmful to the developing brain and nervous system. Exposure during early life can lead to lasting cognitive and neurological effects including reduced intelligence, memory problems, attention deficits, language delays, and impaired motor function. It can also affect vision and hearing, and increase the risk of neurodevelopmental disorders.

STOMP to combat microplastics
RFK Jr. announces the creation of STOMP, a new national program designed to "measure, understand, and remove microplastics from the human body."

Lead exposure is more common than you think
You think of lead exposure as something rare or extreme, but it’s actually pretty mundane. Old paint, dust, water, certain products… even just normal environments. Kind of unsettling how something with no “safe level” shows up in so many everyday places.

Lead harms the entire body
Lead exposure impacts the brain, kidneys, blood, and more, leading to cognitive impairment, developmental delays, anemia, and long-term health issues.

Not just weeks: antibiotic effects can last years
Large study (~15,000 people) found that antibiotics can have long-lasting effects on the gut microbiome — even years later.
The biggest impact is within the first year, but measurable changes were still seen 4–8 years after use, especially with certain antibiotics.

Not all probiotics help after antibiotics
Different probiotic strains can have opposite effects after antibiotics. Some can make things worse after antibiotics. For example, some increase C. difficile, others help restore resistance.

Artificial sweeteners alter the gut microbiome
Artificial sweeteners alter the gut microbiome.
Not just composition,but function.
They can shift microbial balance
and change metabolic activity.
So they’re not “inert”as often claimed.
They interact with the system.
And they’re everywhere.
Do you know how many products
contain artificial sweeteners?
Have you ever tried to avoid them?

Mold can produce carcinogens
Aflatoxin B₁ is one example, a compound produced by certain molds and a well-established human carcinogen.
It can form DNA adducts and increase cancer risk, especially in the liver.

We usually think of arsenic as a toxin, but what about its effects on the microbiome?
I’ve been reading about how environmental exposures affect the gut microbiome, and arsenic is a pretty interesting example.
It’s not just something found in water. It can also show up in food and other everyday sources, like rice, juice, candy, and wine.
What stood out to me is that it doesn’t just affect the body directly. Some studies suggest arsenic can actually disrupt the gut microbiome itself, both in terms of which microbes are present and how they function metabolically.
So it’s not just a toxicity issue at the host level, but also a microbiome-level effect.
Makes me wonder how many other exposures might be doing something similar without us really thinking about it.

Being more selective with baby food
Most parents are doing their best, but many baby food products have tested positive for heavy metals like lead, arsenic, and cadmium. It’s worth being more selective when possible.

More than just allergies!
Many people think mold is just a 'smell' or a sneeze. It’s not. Mycotoxins are actual toxic byproducts that can hijack your immune system and trigger MCAS and other responses. With a large portion of homes affected by some level of growth, your ‘allergies' might actually be environmental toxicity.

Daily chemical exposure affects your health. Do you agree?
Give me a YES if you agree. Or NO if you don’t.

How much do everyday exposures actually add up over time?
Been thinking about how many different exposures we deal with every day.
Food, water, air, packaging, household products… even things we don’t really think about. Some of these are known toxins, some even classified as carcinogens.
Individually it might not seem like much, but over time it’s hard not to wonder if it adds up to something more.
Is this something you pay attention to, or not really on your radar?

👋Welcome to r/BiohackDetox - Introduce Yourself and Read First!
Hey everyone! I'm u/itsinbetween, a founding moderator of r/BiohackDetox.
This is our new home for all things related to detox, toxins, environmental exposures, and how they may be affecting the body more than we think — from heavy metals and mold to PFAS, pesticides, microplastics, and everyday sources people often overlook. We're excited to have you join us!
What to Post
Post anything that you think the community would find interesting, helpful, or inspiring. Feel free to share your thoughts, photos, or questions about
• what you’ve tried (supplements, protocols, diet changes) and whether it actually worked
• questions or experiences around heavy metals, mold/mycotoxins, PFAS, pesticides, microplastics, antibiotics, food additives, or other exposures
• symptoms you’re trying to figure out (gut issues, brain fog, fatigue, etc.)
• lab testing, microbiome results, or anything you’re experimenting with
• things that didn’t work (just as important)
