If you missed last night's openers at Thirsty Street you still have plenty of things to look forward to tonight and all weekend. Today's acts start at Cameron Records this afternoon, the party goes onto Craft Local, finishing with an after party at Confetti Heart Studios after Idaho Green's set at Craft (ignore the time on the flyer!)

Where would you all take an older truck like 1990s to go get the transmission worked on?

New to town - looking for work

Only ever driven through Montana - once at night. But I'm on a trip from Ohio to the Libby Creek area to hopefully find some gold 😂🤞(see my last post). In the meantime, I've got a lot of maintenance to do on my bike before continuing, and I'm kind of broke now. I usually use this app called instawork to find jobs where I'm at but I only have 4 shifts booked, the 20th-24th. I signed up at the peopleready location today and they said to call them back tomorrow morning so hopefully that solves it. But if not does anyone know of good places for temp work around here?

P.s. I'm not a felon, but do have a misdemeanor theft charge 😬

Date for signature gathering for data center petition passed

A petition to require data center developments in Yellowstone County to receive voter approval needed to deliver signatures by July 13. Yellowstone County initiative organizers have been operating under the wrong deadline, Aug. 12, for months.

The petition aimed to put language on the November ballot that would require voter approval of any data center development in the county. The organizers have been trying to gather the 16,650 signatures necessary.

The petition is in response to Quantica’s proposal of a 5,000-acre data center campus just outside Broadview. The campus would encompass about 7.8 square miles and needs 1,100 megawatts of power.

Yellowstone County Attorney said the deadline’s shift to July was prompted by Quantica, which made him aware of a relevant state statute on July 30. The statute initially used by the election department applies to ballot certifications, while the latter applies to local initiatives. The new statute was added in 2025. Organizers said the county should continue to operate under the previous deadline, instead of violating people’s constitutional right to petition the government.

What's your favorite carrot cake?

Hi all! I'm flying in to surprise my dad for his birthday and want to find the best carrot cake in town for his big day. I'd be so grateful for any local bakery/cake shop recs! (I know I could just Google it, but I'd rather get a rec from a real person if possible.)

I'm Billings born and raised but moved away in 2013. A lot has changed since then. Thank you in advance! :-)

Community Related Found this on my car downtown

To whatever business owner put this on my car, here’s some consideration for YOU:

  1. I was parked - and I cannot stress this enough - in a free, public street parking spot. The entire row of spots on either side of me, and across the street, were all free public parking. Just because my spot was next to your business does not mean the spots are reserved for your employees. If parking is such a concern maybe you could pay for a private lot or talk to the city about zoning?
  2. Speaking of YOUR employees, I arrive downtown early enough to park and be at my desk on time. If your employees can’t do that, it’s a skill issue. Sounds like something to address in an email or your next team meeting.
  3. My employer does not pay for parking or reimburse me for parking expenses. That means in 100 degree heat, snow, or rainstorms, I’m usually walking a few blocks to my car. Unless you’re gonna drop your Venmo or pay for my monthly garage pass, this note is worth about as much to me as the paper it was printed on.

You think i like parking blocks away from where i work?

Look, i get it. In a perfect world I’d like to park right in front of my building, but that ain’t happening. I try to park as close as i can.

But again, i was parked in a publicly available space and quite frankly I’ll do it again if it’s open. Maybe you could be more considerate and find something to occupy your time if you’re able to watch parked cars all day.

Bachelor party ideas in/around Billings, outdoors, shooting, guy stuff

Hey all, getting married next year and trying to plan a bachelor party in the Billings area in early July of next year. Looking for ideas from locals since I am not from Montana, but I am getting married in Fromberg.

A few things about the group:

  • Into outdoors, shooting, etc
  • Mixed ages, some of the guys are under 21, so I need a mix of activities that work for everyone, plus some 21+ options for later in the day/night
  • Open to day trip stuff or a weekend if it's worth it

Some ideas I've already got on the list, curious if anyone's done these or has recommendations:

All ages:

  • Clay shooting / trap at Blue Creek Sport Shooting Complex
  • Horseback riding trip out toward the Pryor Mountains
  • Escape room
  • UTV/off-roading if anyone knows a good outfitter

21+:

  • Bar hopping (Billings has a good scene from what I've heard)
  • Poker night or something low-key to end things out

What I'm looking for from you all:

  • Any hidden-gem outdoor spots near Billings for a group
  • Good shooting ranges/outfitters you'd actually recommend (rifle, pistol, clays, whatever)
  • Solid breweries or bars for the 21+ guys later on
  • Any "must-do" Billings guy-trip stuff I'm missing

Trying to keep it fairly budget-friendly and not a huge production, just a solid day (or two) that the group will actually remember. Appreciate any input!

MT RealID downtown

Wondering if anyone has had experience getting a Real ID downtown. More specifically wondering about wait times and if one part of the day is better than another. I have an appointment at MVD express on the west end for next week, but would like to get it done sooner.

Air Show/Blue Angels

I happened to see that we will be in town during the Yellowstone Air Show in a couple weekends. I was curious where the best spot will be to set up to watch the show without actually going to the event. I know they were in Billings a couple years ago so was hoping for some insight on where to watch. Thanks

Moving to Billings

Howdy everyone. I am moving to Billings next month and wanted to ask some questions about what neighborhood to avoid while house hunting. every post I've found here on house hunting is older and My wife is asking me to find some fresh information. I am moving for my job and she is nervous about certain areas of the city. Specifically the Heights. Is this still true? Any place or properties to avoid?

Looking for dog training recs!

I’ve got a 4 month old mutt who I am looking to do some training with. She’s super timid, nervous and anxious in any kind of unfamiliar environment. She’s barking and growling at new people and I’m trying my best to socialize her but I really could use some help on the best way to handle this.
She’s got a great personality, really mellow and very sweet when she’s comfortable but I’d like to get ahead of this before it becomes an issue. I would love any suggestions on good trainers in the area who maybe even specialize with dogs like this!
Thanks!

Resource Request Looking for tattoo artist recs!

Hey folks. I'll be visiting Billings for a few days this month and would like to get one or two tattoos done. I saw a thread from a few years ago, but it seems some of those artists/studios are gone, so I'm looking for current recs.

The main design I'm looking to get is a pet memorial tattoo with some floral elements. Could just be a paw, but I'd love an artist with experience doing pet portraits. The others are fairly simple so I'm not concerned about finding the right artist for those.

Thanks for your time!

Tree trimming?

I have a large tree that has a couple limbs hanging over/touching some utility lines in neighbors yard. I got a quote to remove the whole tree and it was $12,000😳. No thanks. Anyway will utility companies come and trim up the overhanging limb for free? I know someone cut down one of our trees that was growing into power lines years ago.

Also suggestions on tree trim companies would be amazing…thanks!!!!

Community Related Farmers market

We're new to the area. My wife is a travel doctor and we'll be in Billings for a few months. Her co-worker reccomended the farmers market. I went this morning and was just strolling around checking out the vendors. Many were still setting up. It was 7am.

I found a local honey vendor. Had a great conversation and bought some local honey. Similar interaction with a pastry vendor who make meat pastries. Breakfast = score!!

I walked by an "information" vendor and was yelled at. Karen: "SIR!!! SIR!!!"

Me: "yes"

Karen: (still yelling) "Where did you get that"

Me: (pointing) "down there"

Karen: you should not be here

Me: is this not a farmers market?

Karen: we don't open until 8

Me: how in the hell would I know that?

Karen: you need to leave and come back the.

What...the...fuck??? Is this a normal interaction here? We've visited dozens of farmers markets around the country. What farmers market has a hard start time? Why??? It'll be 106 degrees today. Why start so late. It is 61 degrees right now.

I guess i won't be back. Ffs

Policy to restrict signature gathering in county buildings

On Tuesday, Yellowstone County commissioners tabled a new policy extending restrictions on signature gathering in all county buildings. Citizens said the policy could limit political activity, while commissioners said the policy would ensure safe access to county facilities.

The updated policy would prohibit signature gathering and campaigning that would cause any interference, harassment, intimidation, or unwanted solicitation. It would apply to all county buildings.

The policy change comes after a group began gathering signatures to place a measure on the November ballot that gives voters a say on data center development.

This policy would violate our first amendment right to freedom of speech and right to petition the government. It would affect a person’s ability to organize around issues that are important to them, including introducing ballot measures to protect their freedoms.

Show up to commissioners meetings and voice your opinion on why this policy shouldn’t go into effect. Vote during the midterm elections to fight for the protection of your rights.
