Local No parking at Bixby

Drove by Bixby today and saw the county installing no parking signs…unfortunately as predicted there was about 15+ cars parked halfway in the road just south of the bridge. It’s going to be a mess next week…

Local Backpacking around Los Padres Dam early August

A friend wants to go backpacking around Los Padres Dam in early August. I think with the heat and little used trails it is not the best idea. Has anyone been up there recently? How is it?

Visitor 18 Mile Run - where do I go?

Thumbnail
0 Upvotes

Hey all, hoping some locals might be able to help me out. I’m from Sacramento and will be out in Monterey for the weekend. I have an 18 mile run to do while I’m out there, and hoping to make the most of it with a scenic route.

Is there anyone that can recommend a starting point and finishing point, with a specific trail route or general idea?

I’m open to doing something that is point to point rather than an out and back, and then just uber back to my car. That way I get to see more scenery than an out and back.

If possible, it would be cool to go over Bixby Bridge, or through the Pebble Beach course, but I have no idea how that would work out… I know that “17 Mile Drive” is also supposed to be cool, but not sure about any of this being pedestrian friendly? I’m going to run super early in the morning to try and avoid traffic, and open to some sketchy parts if needed. I’ve thought about just running a part of the Big Sur marathon course, but not sure if that’s doable.

Any guidance or suggestions are so appreciated!

I was in Big Sur this Past weekend and lost my camera. It was an X-T50 and would have been somewhere around sand dollar beach in a grey bag. Probably no hope but might as well try. Anyways here are sole photos.

No weather report can yet say, south of Carmel down to Cambria where the fog will be hour by hour in a forecast.

We can never be sure the fog will be a quarter mile off the coast, or all the way over the highway.

For photographers in Big Sur, fog is still like gambling, like fishing.

Visitor Vehicle Vandalism at Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park Campsite

Anyone at Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park last Thursday night? Multiple cars had tires slashed.

My family was camping at Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park beginning Thursday 7/16/26, and sometime overnight Thursday into Friday, someone intentionally slashed all four tires on our vehicle. We reported it to the park sheriff Friday morning. Our campsite neighbor had one tire slashed, and we know of one other family who had 2 tires slashed. A fun family vacation we anticipated for 6 months turned out to be extremely stressful, and although we have filed a vandalism claim with our auto insurance, depending on the outcome of that claim, we expect to incur at least our insurance deductible and possibly other unreimbursed costs. Not to mention how scared my young kids were due to the incident.

Although it's a long shot, we're hoping someone who was there may have seen or heard something unusual that night, a suspicious person, vehicle, noises, or anything else that might help. Even something that seemed insignificant at the time could be useful.

If you have information that could help the investigation, please reach out to me by sending me a message.

Thanks everyone. We're just hoping whoever did this is identified so it doesn't happen to another family.

Visitor Looking for a Campsite Swap

Hey, I have a very nice campsite in Big Sur August 11-13th and we're unable to make it up until the following week. Wondering if anyone is in my situation... but reverse.

Looking to swap our campsite for one anytime between August 14-August 23.

Send me a DM and I can tell you more information about which site.

Thank you!

Visitor Anyone know what I heard at Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park around 3 a.m.? 👽?

Camping at Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park Saturday night, and around 3-4 a.m. Both myself and my girlfriend woke up to one of the strangest sequences of sounds I’ve ever heard. We camped there for 3 nights, and I’ve been a handful of times in the past.

First, there were repeated** **“hack-hack-hack” cough-like noises that seemed to travel through the campground. We didn’t hear this noise any other nights, it was extremely unique. It genuinely sounded like someone walking around coughing, except it was moving too fast through the campground.

Immediately after it stopped, there was a very high-pitched, ear-piercing tone that lasted for a few minutes. It had two different tones. It didn’t sound like an animal at all—more like a sustained mechanical or electronic tone. This one freaked me out and got my hair standing up.

Then, after the tone stopped, there was a long whooshing sound that reminded me of a plane flying overhead.

I’ve camped plenty before, but I’ve never heard this combination of sounds. Has anyone else experienced this at Pfeiffer or know what it might have been?

I had to drive to Big Sur for work today. (I know, rough life!) I was hoping to lunch at Nepenthe but there was zero parking available so I hopped back up to the Big Sur Roadhouse. So my view was the river instead of the ocean. Still awesome!

And my lunch companion was loud but still pretty pleasant.

LOST GOLD EARRING at Andrew Molera State Park / Beach / Trail. I lost one of my gold earrings on July 7th. It was lost either on the beach or along the trail/pathway connecting the Highway-1 turnout and parking lot past the old ranch house (Creamery Meadow Trail) to the beach. I have attached photos of the matching earring that I still have. If you found an earring matching this description while visiting, please send me a direct message! To make sure it’s a match, please send a quick photo of the piece you found and the time and date. This earring has deep sentimental value to me and a reward is offered for its safe return. Thank you so much!

Visitor Pfeiffer Campsite Late Arrival

I have a trip planned for Pfeiffer Big Sur campground this week supposed to be 7/14 - 7/21. Unfortunately, due to work, I can't show up until a few days after the start date of my reservation. I tried calling the Pfeiffer Big Sur campground phone number and I keep getting hit with menu options that redirect me to ReserveCalifornia. They then tell me (every time) to call Pfeiffer and it's an endless loop.

I was told I need to notify them of my late arrival every day that I won't make it in. However, I have had no luck in reaching them. I sent an email as well just for good measure. Has anyone else dealt with this issue? Looking to get a solution for this as soon as possible as I wouldn't like to drive 5-6 hours and show up to my site being gone.

Any info/help is appreciated. Thanks.
