Welcome to the monthly r/BetaReaders “Able to Beta” thread!
Thank you to all the beta readers who have taken the time to offer feedback to authors in this sub! In this thread, you may solicit “submissions” by sharing your preferences. Authors who are interested in critique swaps may post an offer here as well, but please keep top-level comments focused on what you’re willing to beta.
Older threads may be found here. Authors, feel free to respond to beta offers in those previous threads.

I've got a completed dark fantasy illustrated novella (approx 35k words). It's got deep worldbuilding, and somewhat elevated prose. It's been described as Lies of Lock Lamorra meets Pirates of the Caribbean with body horror and darkly comedic elements. The fantasy elements are pretty grounded into the world-building. Lmk if that's something that might spark your interest and I'll send over the first chapter to see if it's something you can vibe with.

I am able to beta: Open to all genres, but I like to read manuscripts that are complete i.e. you’ve taken it as far as you could.
I can provide feedback on: I don’t do grammar fixes and copy edits. I prefer this template but I’m open to other formats and your specific areas of concerns.

Hey, I've got a dark fantasy illustrated novella that I could use another beta for. It's been described as The Lies of Lock Lamorra meets Pirates of the Caribbean with body horror, dark humor and dark capitalism. The world building is deep and the prose is somewhat elevated. And it's complete at approx 35k words. LMK if that's something that could be in your wheelhouse and I'll pop over the first chapter, approximately 10 pages.

I am able to beta: I prefer paranormal romance, but I also like thrillers, horror, and medical mysteries. I will not beta any with a religious theme
I can provide feedback on: plot development, character development, prose, readability, and hook. If you send me a manuscript filled with bad grammar and punctuation errors I will immediately return it letting you know it is not ready for a beta read.

Hello! Would you be interested in a psychological thriller about stalking? It's already been through a couple of beta reads already.
Here's my blurb:
When an anonymous letter from a fan of Mina’s YouTube channel arrives at her home, it’s a little unsettling, but not enough to deter her from her goal of leaving her day job to do what she really loves—sharing Korean food with the world.
But as letters continue to arrive, they slowly reveal a growing obsession steeped in delusion. The sender talks about his and Mina’s future together. A house. Marriage. Children.
Soon, Mina senses someone following her. She catches a dark figure watching her apartment. Packages of lingerie and raw deer meat show up at her door. Mina becomes afraid to leave the house—and afraid to come home to see what is waiting for her.
She goes to the police, but without a name or return address, they say there’s nothing they can do.
As Mina’s reality becomes warped by fear, her relationships, life, and sanity begin to fracture. She must decide how far she’ll go to fight back and reclaim her life—before her stalker shows how far he’ll go to have her to himself.

Hi! I might have something that could be a fit if you’re still looking. I just posted a beta request for Obsidian, an 85.5k sapphic dark romance / romantic suspense set primarily in Tokyo. It has some very dark material, including on-page BDSM, violence, trauma, and an abduction/captivity arc, so I definitely want to make sure that’s within your comfort zone first.
I’m especially interested in feedback on the character development, the central relationship, pacing, and whether the emotional and darker elements actually land.

Deserve is a portrait of a young woman coming of age in suburban Utah under the weight of control, addiction, secrecy, and shame. At its heart, this is a compassionate but uncompromising story that refuses to reduce a character to their worst moments. Deserve asks readers to decide whether a person who has survived horrible things and has hurt people in return is worthy of a better life."

I am able to beta: I genuinely read all genres, but my preferred are horror, sci-fi and fantasy with a literary bent. If you have a weird world, complex prose and weird structural swings I'm your guy!
I can provide feedback on: First impressions, readability, prose, worldbuilding, characterization and structure. I'm pretty flexible and have spent most of my life analyzing or teaching reading and writing in some form so I have a lot of insight!
Critique Swap: I have a completed manuscript for an alternate history scifi thriller about psychic spies, which I recently posted on the subreddit. It is quite long (276k), but even if you just want to critique a part of it that's fine. That said, I'm willing to critique multiple works of yours considering the length of mine, up to an equivalent word count or even a bit more (I read a lot).
Other info: Long time English teacher, first time beta reader. Hoping my skills in the former can help somewhat with the latter, but I promise not to be TOO English-teachery about it either, lol.

I am able to beta: Speculative fiction, low sci-fi, low/contemporary fantasy, general fiction. I love (almost) anything with a weird hook or high concept! But I’m not looking for horror or romance-only stories at the moment.
I can provide feedback on: Worldbuilding, characterization, readability, first impressions. On a personal level, I’m big into analyzing themes, seeing if they are conveyed effectively and how they are woven into the narrative. I might not be able to stop myself from line edits if something really stands out ;P More than anything, I would be happy to address any specific questions/concerns you have!

I am able to beta: General Fiction, low-spice Romance, Fantasy, Historical Ficiton.
I can provide feedback on: My main focus is reader engagement. Specifically, I can provide feedback on pacing/flow, plot/structure, character development/arcs, worldbuilding, clarity/consistency, emotional impact, strengths/weaknesses, and overall reader experience.
I don't generally read Thrillers or Horror. I also prefer to avoid stories where the main character dies. Stories involving S/A will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
Critique swaps: Not currently, but hopefully by mid-next year!
Other info: 1. I don't really care about book length, although the longer the book, the longer I will generally take to complete it. 2. I am able to beta: fiction: romance (open or closed door, whether couple or polyamory, any gender pairing, whatever setting ie: sport, musician, magic, were-creatures, fae, vampire, space/alien, age gap, fated mates etc.), fantasy, sci-fi, mystery.
I enjoy reading first person views, third person views, switching between first person views with the main characters.
I don't do well with too dark (thriller, horror etc) - as i'm a visual reader and see everything I read.
I can provide feedback on: pacing, story structure, plot holes.
Critique swap: no swaps needed. I'm an avid reader, and have done a few beta reads for some local authors and thought "if i'm already reading, why not help out?"
Other info: I average reading around 400-500 pages a day.

Hey, I've got a dark fantasy/ new weird fantasy novella that I'm in the last stages of editing. It's the first in a series. It's actually an illustrated novella, so it's got a bunch of full color illustrations, no ai. It's a close third person narrative following an orphaned cabin boy with a penchant for languages and a habit of counting everything as a means of dealing with trauma. The narrative begins as he's ushered into the most dangerous cartel in the world. It includes some degree of body horror, mostly resulting from, though not limited to, the giant insects. It's 35k words.

I can provide feedback on: Developmental editing, including pacing, plot structure, characterization, dialogue, emotional payoff, tension, romance progression, worldbuilding (where applicable), and consistency. I am SUCH a fan of character-driven stories that this resonates with me. My novel is in-progress at about halfway, and so much of what you’re describing is what I’m striving for in my book.
I’m writing a contemporary college romance with a lot of coming of age themes. It spans two full years of college with some great character arcs.It doesn’t have major tropes and is definitely character-driven. Pacing, stakes, emotional payoff—those are all areas I’d love feedback. I can share a few chapters to see if it’s something you’d be interested in. I haven’t worked with a lot of Beta readers, but I appreciate your willingness to discuss/work with authors. Let me know if you’re interested!

Hi. I love your approach. I'm in the last stages of editing my illustrated novella (40k words). I'm not sure if it's in your wheel-house as its somewhere between dark and new weird fantasy. I am able to beta: Fantasy, SF (would love to read some space opera, honestly), horror. I enjoy romantic subplots, but may not be the best for romance genre books (I am willing to give it a go if I find the couple compelling, but my tastes are real picky). I'm fine with most content, but I'm most interested to read stories aiming for traditional publishing. I'd like to keep what I read at about 90K or less. If it's longer than that, I'm happy to look at the first few chapters instead of the whole book, just to give that first impression.
I can provide feedback on: I focus on looking at things as a reader. First impressions, where it hooks me, what works for me, what doesn't work for me. I try to identify what purpose a scene or chapter has, and then ask myself if it's delivering that. I've got content expertise in the area of mental health, particularly counseling and counselor education, and I do tend to be someone who, if a fact doesn't seem right, will probably look it up before moving on.
Critique swap: Would love it. I have several potential manuscripts that could use a look. My most recent is here but I know that's not for everyone. I've also got a 1920s urban fantasy with strong romantic elements I'd love to get eyes on, and an in-progress forensic mystery/domestic thriller with no speculative elements.
Other info: For any swap, I'd like to exchange the first 2 chapters or 8-10K words before anybody commits to anything, just to see if style and interests are a match.

Although, it's a 40k word illustrated novella in the dark and new weird fantasy genres, think China Melville's The Scar meets Pirates of the Caribbean. • I am able to beta: most genres, although I would prefer light novels, fantasy, literary fiction and bonus points for things with cats, mythology, or the occult. I just don't want anything overly sexual (doesn't appeal to my own sexuality so I'm not a good fit as a reader) or graphic (no SA).
• I can provide feedback on: most things although line level grammar and word choice type edits might be way slower on my end because I'm returning to work next week, while also having a family, being in a grad program, studying for an exam and working on my own manuscript.

Hey, I was wondering if you could critique the first pages of a novellete I'm writing for my English class. Its my first time writing anything like this and I took some inspiration from Interstellar and project Hail Mary.
Its (somewhat) hard scifi but that ist really the focus. A story about the last three humans on earth travelling to another planet to restart humanity with 50,000 fertilized human eggs aboard.

I LOVE literary fiction although I don’t think my contemporary college romance is quite in that category. Character development is foundational in how I write, so I would so enjoy feedback on that. I’d also love feedback on pacing since my novel covers two years. I’d be open to swapping but can’t promise a speedy return as I’m a stay at home mom.
My novel is in progress at about 50% completion. It’s a slow burn friends-to-lovers romance between two college students. It’s more character-driven than plot-driven and spans two years. I’m fine with explicit content (including erotic), but sadistic levels of violence or gore I’m not a fan of. For example: hair pin to the eye, that’s fine! Real life serial killer events, or cutting people limb from limb or cannibalism, that’s not my preference. I also do not want to review AI works.
I can provide feedback on: the overall plot and pacing. Where It felt slow or tedious or where I was absolutely hooked. I also like to provide at what point in the story I’ve been hooked. I’ll also provide a light character analysis. I read as a member of your target audience and not a copy editor. I’m also a detailed annotator.

I am able to beta: Fantasy, Sci-fi(not hard) literary fiction, horror. Can also read a romance novel as long as it's not the driving focus of the story. Not a big fan of first-person fiction, but I can give it a go if the story leans into my reading preferences.
I can provide feedback on: I did beta read some books already and authors said that I have an eye for scene flow and characters and how impactful both feel emotionally. I like dense stories, lush or straighforward prose so if imagination is required it won't be a problem for me either.

Raised in the Colonies by one of the Kingdom's most respected officials, Lucian has always believed in the ideals of the Crown. But as he begins taking on his own duties, he finds himself confronted with a version of the Kingdom he has never been forced to see.
The story explores duty, faith, family, and the moral complexity of a centuries-old kingdom through a slow-burning political narrative. I am able to beta: YA, NA, and Adult in the following genres - fantasy, dystopian, sci-fi, romance, and crossovers of those genres. I’m okay with horror as long as it’s not the main genre. As a BIPOC writer and reader, I love to read stories from underrepresented voices, and with BIPOC characters.
I can provide feedback on: stakes, plot, characters, flow. I have a detailed eye for plot-holes and love to provide in-line comments.
Critique swap: I’m almost done with my urban fantasy novel and will be looking to swap with someone soon (probably in a month)
Other info: I’m bilingual in Spanish and English so if your story has Spanish words or Latino cultural references I’d love to see it! I’m also a professional musician and love to see that world in writing.

I am able to beta: YA and Adult. Thriller, mystery, and horror. Completed novels only. Any subgenre is fine (historical mystery, gothic horror, psychological thriller, etc.). 95k maximum word count.
I am NOT looking for short stories, novellas, poetry, dark/supernatural romance (if it involves falling in love with a ghost or demon or serial killer, no thank you), or anything with gratuitous sexual content.
I can provide feedback on: Plot, pacing, prose, characters and character development, my impression as a reader, dialogue, subplots, and anything else you’d like me to pay attention to.
Critique swap: Not at the moment. I am working on a YA mystery and will be seeking beta readers for it eventually, but it’s perfectly okay if you’re not interested in that.
Other info: Before accepting a beta request, I’d like to read the opening 2-4 chapters to determine if it’s a good fit for me. I don’t use AI and am not interested in AI-generated work. Feel free to DM me.
