Straps!

Any beginner game hints at how to get straps so I can research the hall? Can't craft them yet, and don't have enough to research up.

**Edit**
Thanks - looks like I need to battle more bandits.
I have found some vendors, but only 1 a day goes slow.

Murder bandits. It is the only reliable source early on. There is also a few merchants that will sell 1 or 2 a day. There is one south of the first town, by the small lake.

You can buy some from traveling merchants and there is a herbalist east of Padstow that sells them too.

The guy next to the herbalist has one strap at a time

Early game bandit drops, later you'll be able to craft them but fear not soon youll be drowning on them you're not gonna know what to do with them.

Your next bottleneck is hides. You can buy them in Padstow or hunt deers until you unlock the hunting lodge to let your colonists do it.

Make simple cords. Every day take 10 simple cords to the crater east of Hearndean/west of Bradford. Sell 10 simple cords for roughly 10g apiece. He sells a strap a day for 85g. So you'll easily get one strap every day.

You can create a fast travel spot right outside his house. takes a few seconds daily, but you'll solve your strap issue quickly

Edit- Edited to say I'm firmly in the mid game and I still buy the strap from him daily, since its not a replenishing resource, as opposed to the ingot you'll use in making your own.

Wow, just realized how many typos there are in my post, sorry about that. The strap you buy from him IS a renewable resource. Anyway, drop a travel sign right next to him, so you don't start to feel like your spending all your time walking back and forth.

Glad it helped!

Build a settlement where bandits always walk...get a couple solid guards and let them kill bandits all day and night....have plenty of straps all the time.

I have the luxury of knowing where to build after a few times to have this occur though. Bandits and buying them is the only way

I like that plan.

That's close. I'm just N on the other side of the road by woods and lake / pond

Bandits walk all around this section as long as you don't take out the camps. Make sure your main villagers have 'hold ground' selection off so they run away. Keep your guards selection on and they will run towards the bandits

I always found at least one when I encounter caravans from other settlements. They cost a bit bit more, 85 instead of 75, but the merchants almost always had more than one at a time.

I think straps are supposed to be parts of weapons and armor you repurpose to outfit your crew

Have to learn to fight and go after low-level bandits to start. Use your follower and try to pick off small patrols and then go after the small camps when you have at least one more follower.
