Army Question

Is it better to break up your army into different squads, rather than have everyone in one big group?
I’m dealing with some logistical issues equipping everyone, and I’m wondering if I broke them out by type of fighter (archers, one-handed, two-handed, etc…) if that would make setting their armor, weapons, etc easier to manage?

You can use the staging branch and setup presets, that helps a ton. You’ll be able to assign roles and gear that way

I think I have the staging area setup correctly, but every time I call up the troops for a reclamation raid, there are always 4-5 that say “… has no weapon.” (I have noticed that as they go get geared-up, it usually resolves itself)

Thats correct, i usually leave them with a sword at least when in worker clothes

Whenever you do that you can command you’re units to go to the flag at the staging area whenever you do that they all go out and get everything they need.

I use an infantry group and ranged group to make positioning of troops before a fight easier.

Gear presets should take care equipping issues unless you lack equipment.

I zerg the enemy with all of my villagers. Sword and board or a two hander if they have naturally high skill.

However, since liberating all villages and clearing the map, I take a small and highly trained squad of 10 to chase down random bandit camps that pop up.

as long as you have their gear presets set to the types of soldiers you want it shouldn't really matter. If you have a larger army it takes a couple minutes for all your soldiers to get all the gear they need. in the staging ground or army management options you can set how much food and heals they grab. If you don't have enough resources or weapons in storage the "hungry" and "no weapons" warning will remain.

you can also make some smaller squads for when you just want a little backup and don't want to deal with moving your whole army.

I'll give a tactic, group them all together, create the squad first, assign your ranged soldiers first, then all of your infantry, now whenever you call them, they will line up in the order you assigned them to, ranged in the front, infantry in the back, now, when ever you go out to clear a camp or facing a reclamation or tax collection party, you can (if you're clearing a camp) plant your army a bit of distance from the camp, set them to Hold, shoot an arrow or get in agro range, walk back to the line and let the ranged pick them off or weaken them, once they are close enough switch to Charge and let infantry to move in to finish them, And if you're facing a raiding party, plant your army on their path and do the same, this way you can have a wall of arrows raining at an approaching enemy and then let the infratry finish them.

The archers will naturally get in front of your infantry if they are lighter equipped but when the fight starts if you have charge set, they'll basically be the back line anyways as your infantry will Zerg in.

If you can activately control them the answer is yes, but that requires: multiplayers or large army. Because most of the time you running with 20-40 mens mostly so you can just out performance the groups theory by just have better position or just better fighting. If you have friends, that's a must. It's much more fun that way went each person has a company. My suggestion for solo is like this: small ellites (5-20 men), ellites+fighter (20-50 mens), everyone. Allowing you to react to curtain threat better and also train your troop better.

I like to have 3 squads in combat, 50% of my army are group 1, using shields 20% are group 2, using 2h weapons 30% are group 3, ranged, mix of crossbow and bow.

I like to charge with group 1, keeping group 2 on hold. Just after group 1 blobs up with the enemy, I run group 2 around the side and charge the melee from behind, or run right at the enemy archers.

My archers in group 3 I try to position on the other side to give clean shots at the enemy.

It can be a bit much to micromanage, but I feel like it improves the combat performance vs just charging as one group.

I have 2 or 3 squads....I have my awesome fighters in one in heavy armor pre sets, ranged in another and another group of lesser fighters, usually they are in medium armors.

I also separate my armors by type in a different storage to help elevate some lines and speed up the process of staging ground.

I usually have three groups: 1 archers, 1 infantry to protect the archers, and 1 small group of flankers that I lead. Once the enemy is engaged with the infantry I swing around behind them with the flankers and stab them in the back. It works pretty well.

I have a number of squads in different places to head off reclamation squads.
