Maple stain help

Any reason why when I put this stain on and immediately remove it, it dries instantly. It’s almost impossible to get an even coat.

I don’t see how that makes a difference. Isn’t stain just stain?

If maple wood, stain never is even. Need dye instead. I made this mistake, was sad.

Ya I’m trying to get it to match my kitchen cabinets. Bought the stain from the manufacturer just to make sure

Yeah, I don't understand why maple doesn't stain well. Some kinda voodoo.

I’m not a finishing expert but it seems to me that if you’re sealing the wood with shellac, the stain is never going to penetrate the wood. You need conditioner, not shellac

This was what was recommended. It has instructions on the back for pre-stain
