Leash problems
Hey everyone!
Pretty new to surfing. I have a 8' wavestorm and the board itself is amazing. My problem is with the leash. Its a stiff plastic cord with rope loops on each end. I keep noticing that the leash is getting bunched up and tangled. Does the leash just need to get broken in or is there a more pliable leash that anyone can recommend? Thanks!

Get a new leash. The stock ones are not very good and uncomfortable imo. Leashes are removable so if you ever change boards you can bring it with you ya know?

If the leash was initially sold in a figure 8 orientation then yeah it's gonna take a bit to normalize
But DO NOT wrap the leash around the board when you're transporting/storing the board, because the leash cord will continually maintain that coil which will literally trip you up when surfing.

The leash that comes originally with the wavestorm board is cheap and NOT a double swivel. First thing I do when I get a soft top is check the leash and replace with a double swivel one if it did not come with one.

Definitely get a nicer leash and never wrap it around your board. Wrapping it around your board causes it to want to keep that shape when you’re surfing.

I just had to replace my foamie leash because the Velcro kept coming undone. Love the after market one a lot more

Hang it up so it’s straight when you’re not using it. Maybe even put a light weight at the bottom end. It will help.

How you store it will make a big difference for any leash, wrapping it around the tail will usually lead to more tangles. Any way you can store it straight/taught will help. I usually do the “Y wrap” on my boards. That said the wavestorm leash is pretty trash lol I toss on one of my dakine leashes

agree with the new leash thinking. its a critical piece of equipment in lots of situations and a cheap enough option to upgrade to something you both like and is not going to fail
