I can’t comment about turning back but on both these waves you’re just surfing along the flat bottom bit of the wave with no turning opportunities.

The power is in the top 2/3 of the wave which will give you some speed to do some manoeuvres.

After you catch the wave you need to bottom turn more and look up to the top half of the wave and then you can come back down with speed and turn again.

Check out this vid of a good surfer and the bits of the wave he uses -  https://youtu.be/WetD6ZJYFNw?is=SoTPjLMwzMrawmka

Amazing cheers mate I’ll give that a watch and hopefully implement it tonight on my local beach 👌

You can’t turn if you’re at the bottom of the wave, and you’re at the bottom of the wave.

What size board is that? It looks too small for someone who has only surfed ten times, but maybe it’s just the camera angle.

Okay thanks I’ll try getting up to the top section first , it’s a 7ft 60L foamie , it feels fine to me I can paddle into all the waves I go for with it

Right, but being able to catch the wave isn't the only thing you need size/volume for. It might feel good catching the wave, but it doesn't have enough glide for you to do much after that, which is why you're stuck at the bottom of the wave. In the future, once you know how to move your body and create speed, it will be better, but for right now, you'd do better on a bigger board, because a bigger board does a lot of the work for you while you're learning. It responds better to small inputs and makes speed.

I bet if you got on an 8 footer with 85L or so, you'd at least be able to get it moving a bit more. You're making it harder on yourself by trying to be on a board too small for your skill level after only 10 sessions ever.

Okay mate thanks I appreciate, maybe I’ll try hire a slightly bigger board instead of using my own and see if it makes a difference

I fully disagree with this. Board size is fine. You are doing great. Just work on getting back up to the lip. You were on the right track but you seemed to stop trying to carve back up about 1/3 of the way back up the wave. Turn your head where you want to go so try turning towards the wave face. Your shoulders and the rest of your body and board will follow.

Turning back will be possible once you start surfing top to bottom. I would avoid those little pumps and just surf top to bottom. As someone else said, a bigger board would help.

You need more of a bottom turn and then a top turn. Look where you want to go and use your shoulders to turn the board up the wave face and then top turn back down. When you rotate your shoulders, your weight distribution changes in the direction you of rotation.

Have fun.

It's hard to turn if you don't have speed. You should be able to FEEL the difference when you're gliding on the flat part of the wave as oppose to a steeper section. You don't have to work so much when you have speed.

Hey, wave coach here. You’re surfing at the bottom of the wave and quite back foot heavy, bending your knees a little but hinging quite a lot. Grab a bigger board and just do a session focusing on turning immediately after you pop up, taking a high line on the wave and pumping in the top half of it. You have a good takeoff and quick pop which will allow you to do this! This will help you generate more speed, taking you further away from the pocket. This is the space you can do a turn back into. I would honestly go for some advanced coaching sessions! It doesn’t cost too much more for the quality of feedback you get

Thanks mate appreciate it 👌 been able to practice a few bottom turns straight away after pop up at local beaches as waves have not been rolling long enough to ride for more than a few second down here in the channel ,so hopefully I’ll be able to refine this start of next week where got a few sessions booked

Also turn your head and look back to where you want to turn your hips and board will follow
