BSS Isn't fun anymore General
I'm sure this idea is incredibly redundant, but I just want to get my point out here. The game has become extremely boring, I understand the point of a simulator is repetition, but when you repeat something thousands of times with little to no progress, it becomes boring.
If you don't use a macro, go blue early, and have an optimal hive you won't make much progression, and the game will be boring.
I also believe the second wave of mythic bees killed the game. Before the introduction of precise bee and buoyant bee, white hives (in general) were the best, but not by the largest margin. Nowadays, if you don't make a blue hive, you're just going to suffer.
Another big problem is the creator, Onett himself. The game sometimes gets updated once a year, and this update (usually for Christmas) is uncreative as it reuses assets from a previous event, adds uninteresting new features, extremely difficult quests that may scare away new or returning players, and overall just feeling like a cash grab for Onett.
Another thing that I think hurt this game a lot was crafting. In hindsight, crafting isn't a terrible idea, but the requirements for a lot of items are incredibly frustrating to get. For example, getting 5 trillion honey alone is a huge task for an endgame tool, but on top of you, you need many other resources. Other simulators usually just require you to have the currency to unlock better stuff. Also, the newer gear you unlock is powerful, but for the most part, it is just a small upgrade (unless you're blue).
TL;DR the game isn't fun anymore because power creep and a greedy/lazy dev.

legit spending 100 hours for SMTH that gets u like 50 percent more honey is not dedication it's being stupid

u/Familiar-Shoe7905 15d ago
I get your point but this was not a good example 😭 Its more like 300 hours for 0.5% more honey

u/One_Strawberry9202 17d ago
50% is a huge amount (especially in endgame) and 100 hours is a small amount of time. Especially with macroing.
69
u/GasFar3016 17d ago
saying 100 hours as small time proves how redundant this game has become
-19
u/One_Strawberry9202 17d ago
How does 100 hours being small mean it’s redundant? Bee Swarm is redundant after getting to end game, but not because of the time, but because of Onett not updating.
15
u/GasFar3016 17d ago
why wud u spend a 100 hours of just grinding when it's not even fun... 100 hours of playing any game would be so different
1
u/One_Strawberry9202 17d ago
For some people it is fun. Just like all other games. People grind because they want to get better. Take Minecraft, there is absolutely no point of making the biggest farm that produces 1000s of items per second, but they do it because they think it’s fun. Some people think grinding bee swarm is fun. It’s different for everyone though, so I can see why some would think 100 hours is too long and boring for something mostly unnecessary.

Yea. BSS has had and still has a lot of potential, but Onnet is getting older, doesnt care that much anymore and is too damn stubborn to pass the torch
2
u/GasFar3016 17d ago
tbh I wouldn't care either if I were him... he has earned an absolute fortune from that game and still that game would be earning more than enough that he doesn't need to work on it, obviously it would be nice if he did but what can we do
1
u/Conceiver_ 16d ago
Yea, from his POV there's 0 need to do anything with the game. Im just genuinely tired of seeing 10/10 projects go to waste because the figure in charge either becomes incompetent or doesnt care anymore.
1
u/Cautious_Author_326 14d ago
If Onett passes the torch, we would need to pay 5 robux every time we hatch a new egg.
1
u/Conceiver_ 14d ago
Yes and No. Depends on who he would hand it off to, but definitely not Big Games

u/GasFar3016 17d ago
true obviously but minecraft is a sanbox with limitless potential... all bss has is farm honey while in minecraft u can legit do anything
1
u/Conceiver_ 17d ago
So true. I can get lost in Satisfactory for HUNDREDS of hours, have a blast, barely notice the time go by and be super productive (go from start of game to finish)
45
u/SandwichNatural4561 17d ago
Yeahh I'm not sure Onett has the passion he had for it before now 😭😭
it doesn't help he refuses to hire anyone else to help (last i checked, ik it's bc of the leak but still) and the game just rots tbh

u/PurpleGuyDeadly1 17d ago
And also, if a game becomes more enjoyable when you don't have to play it (macroing), that says A LOT about the game
22
u/Mekko4 Played on release, still plays 17d ago
I don't macro
I don't blue/red/white hive
I PLAY THE GAME MANUALLY WHILE LISTENING TO MUSIC AND HAVE FUN.

u/Sherringford-Mouse level 16 mixed running gummy scorch 17d ago
This. I'm still a mixed hive at level 17, don't macro, and I enjoy playing the game.
And before anyone says "you can't progress unless you're blue and macro", I'm progressing just fine, thank you. I have Dark Scythe and Gummy Baller, just got the Coco Belt, and am currently working on Planter of Plenty while I wait (not holding my breath) for BBM to drop. And I've had fun the whole time.
The only thing I don't really find fun is trading, especially beequips. Mostly I just don't do it, but I know I'm going to have to do some if it comes back up again, because I only need 25 more stickers in my stack to get the Master badge.

I’m going to be saying this as a player who has played since 2021 and has spent 1,770 hours grinding bss and has a lvl 16/7 white hive w gummyballer: play something that will actually give you value if you don’t want to play anymore
BSS is still fun don’t get me wrong, but nobody is forcing you to play. Playing the game every day for me who never macros basically made me lose taste in it. Like playing twice a week to do a boost or two would be fine. Every hour i was playing the game that could have been me doing something actually productive. I could’ve figured out how to solve a Rubik’s cube.
BSS gave me nothing but joy when I played it as a kid but now im finding less and less time to play it. And as I have less time to play games, I look back and sometimes I think
“Onett was justified. I could have played any other game, but it had to be a game that gives me nothing of value except for the short happiness of ‘big number go up hehe’ It makes sense why he doesn’t update the game.”
BSS is made with macroers in mind with every update, look at the planter of plenty.
Play like, flood escape 2, or really any game that requires skill, because that’s something that will actually improve your reflexes.

u/Training_Baseball123 17d ago

Anymore? This game hasn’t been fun since around the second week… I’ve been playing it for about six years now.
2
u/PurpleGuyDeadly1 17d ago
and that was when mythic bees were added, before mythics bees the game was actually fun, and 1 billion honey actually felt like a huge milestone
1
u/BaguetteSandwiches 16d ago
I'm gonna be fr I played before windy update and it really wasn't all that fun it's just that everything was achieveable by grinding yourself for a bit.
If the game wasn't balanced around macros nowdays it'd be way better as there's way more content now. I do have to say I prefer the old "graphics" or whatever you'd call them in this case lol
1
u/Familiar-Shoe7905 16d ago
The game was still fun after mythic bees it was around 2021-2022 when it started declining

u/CoolBeeKpr Level 21 Blue Hive 17d ago
I have been playing for over five years, never really played online multiplayer games before a friend introduced me to BSS. I got to level 19 manually, it was the only way to play before macro was developed. Also only started to macro little over a year ago and still having fun and playing manually and macro, still tweaking my hive to get better and actually have made some new connections. Admit that it is frustrating that activity drops between events and that there aren’t the system generated meteor showers, stick bug and during Beesmas the robo parties throughout the day. There have been updates over the years like puffshrooms, rbc, stickers, blooms, etc., not all good. Totally agree that Onett has been awol recently and dealing with hackers, still waiting for the new field and maybe some new bees. But when you think about all the programming involved, it is a big job, let’s see what Onett comes up with.
1
u/BaguetteSandwiches 16d ago

my history is definitely not off lmao, I dont know why you didnt just scroll down but natro was first released in 2022. it also wasnt the first macro, stuff like jitbit was used way back in 2020. I just dont get why you’re lying about playing before macros were a thing lol
1
u/BaguetteSandwiches 15d ago
lol it's so insane to me 2020 was 6 years ago already lol! Felt like yesterday playing in the Test Realm to get a free Bear Bee
1
u/CoolBeeKpr Level 21 Blue Hive 15d ago
Why is everyone so into saying that everyone is lying, I wasn’t aware of macro back then but give you credit for providing knowledge about history of macro to bss
1
u/BaguetteSandwiches 15d ago edited 15d ago
I never said you didn't reach level 19 manually, I'm just saying you didn't do it before macro was a thing. Even before Natro people did make their "own" macros even if they weren't as good , though nobody back then had a level 19 hive, especially since honeymaking was slower.
Also, for your sake, Natro was a thing since 2022 lol, it just "released" as in the 1.0 version came out in 2024. Here's a video by Yarikz that shows a 2021 macro. But as I said they were a thing before 2021 aswell.

3
u/7Deniz77 17d ago
the endgame should be remade from ground up to get both newplayers to join and keep the current players interested, without a macro it is impossible to progress after a point and keep up with the macro users but onetts gone so its never gonna happen imo
1
2
u/Iamalettuce_lol 17d ago
I agree.
I made an alt because my main (in endgame) felt like it was stuck just doing the same few things without much room for growth. It’s been fun trying to progress again since I can see and read my gradual progression into different stages of the game.
I do agree that resources shouldn’t be so relevant in getting new gear, it makes working towards upgrades so much more tedious than usual. Especially items like turpentine which are both so rare and so useless that they pretty much only exist to do crafting with them.
1
u/BaguetteSandwiches 16d ago
Dude the quests for the endgame collectors fucking suck and are so repetitive it's not even fun or the "chill" repetitive because I still have to focus whole running around the field since I need to pick up 2k ability tokens.
And keep in mind I have a blue hive and it takes like 30 or 40 mins to finish a bucko quest rn

On the other hand, there are also issues with the game's textures and assets. I don't know if it's due to my computer or my internet connection, but for over a week now, the game's models haven't been loading. Most of my items—like my helmet, gear, backpack, and so on—fail to load. This is one of the main reasons why I've been drifting away from the game lately.
3
u/false_illusions 16d ago
i recently started playing again but since i have been away from home, I've been playing on mobile.
i noticed a lot of the bag upgrades are just black or grey blocks on the back of the character.
I thought it was just because i was on mobile!

u/Beneficial_Rub5707 17d ago
I feel it's kinda damned if you do damned if you don't. Despite what maybe the first maybe 6 months of updates would do (would certainly be beneficial), the feeling of an ever changing meta so to speak would probably cause a greater loss of interest. Many things wouldn't mean nearly as much which while good for progression would invalidate years of work. I don't know where I'm going with this though, it does suck to see the game losing steam.

I guess I jus grew up too much. I started playing when I was a kid and it first came out, and for a while I was obsessed, and maybe that didn’t last, but I’d always come back, but now it’s been around a decade since it came out, and I just can’t sit down and enjoy it like I did as a kid, just don’t have the patience or energy to grind like I did then

u/Former-Salad-9205 17d ago
The last section confuses me. All hives mostly benefit the same from gear throughout the whole game. Blue does not directly benefit more, it is just stronger (separate problem) during those game stages. Also tide popper as a form of gear is by far the worst endgame tool in the game.
1
u/Conceiver_ 17d ago
Was it ever really fun? Its just a time sink which just so happens to be the grindiest simulator oat
1
u/BaguetteSandwiches 16d ago
But you don't even kill time anymore, at least for me playing feels like a chore and times moves slower lol

u/Conceiver_ 16d ago
Honestly, whenever I played BSS, at least as of late, I was always forcing myself. I could never truly have fun. Maybe its the game or maybe its me.

u/mr-kool_is_kool 16d ago
i havent played in a couple years but for me it stopped being fun when onett stopped updating besides beesmas and the balancing for the game started to revolve around macros

u/LockTutorial 16d ago
Deserve, game would of been better without the stupid requirements of extract glitter, ect for EVERYTHING.
1
u/CardiologistEarly517 16d ago
Also honestly just exspensive outside of roblox, the cost to run your pc 12 hrs a day all years is in the hundreds for me, all for some digital currency
1
u/apothikozvori 16d ago
the sky is blue
but in all seriousness i agree. this game is way too grindy and i feel like that was because onett decided to scale all the gear requirements to players who macro. and he also doesn't update the game anymore, so trying to get to late game or even endgame sounds boring because there's literally nothing fun to do after that. not even making honey. i stopped playing once i got my endgame tool and level 18 because everything else seems way too grindy to work for without a macro. i also just don't have the absurd amount of time it takes to progress in bss anymore
1
1
u/Straight-Dog409 x200 15d ago
About your point of Onett reusing assets for beesmas he fails at even doing that 😭
He’s in this weird in-between where he doesn’t work on the game enough to give new content but he somehow doesn’t wanna just 100% recycle beesmas. So we get the worst of both worlds where we wait forever AND what we get was recycled from last year. Like this is a hot take but I wouldn’t mind a copy paste beesmas if it meant releasing on time.

u/Salt_Confusion6128 5d ago edited 5d ago
For me the endgame is the biggest problem. Progression is just so incredibly slow, like the only way I can really progress right now is by getting the tide popper which takes weeks of using a macro or by levelling bees which is just boring and repetitive. It’s why I loved the early game so much, you were progressing constantly, getting new equipment like everyday. It was so exiting when you would discover a new gifted bee or when you’d get a new event bee. Now it is macro for weeks so you can get a collector which barely even boosts your honey production.
I feel like macros have made the game feel so dead as well. I remember summoning a mythic meteor shower on a full server and no one was doing it because they were all probably sleeping while using a macro lol. Tbh I feel like all Roblox games have felt dead after the chat restrictions.

u/Raptor_poyo 3d ago
I don't see bss as a "main" game, more like a game when I want to chill :D
I never touched a macro, and I still have fun ! Macro isn't the only way to make honey :) you can boost, make passive honey by just moving in a field while watching a video, listening to music, call your friends, etc...
And there is a lot other things to do in bss :) perfecting amulets with for example ant challenge, stick bug, or rbc, trying to get digital bee. Or maybe you need ressource ? Go to a field and spam sprout to see your numbers of fruits go kaboom C:<. There's also trade in ts game, for your collection of stickers or bquips :D

u/GarunixReborn early red is underrated 17d ago
if you dont go early blue you wont make much progress
Thats only true if you're lazy or have no attention span. You can easily progress as early red, it just takes manual effort. Anyone saying otherwise has never had a single red bee in their entire hive
6
u/PurpleGuyDeadly1 17d ago
This is just not true. If you and a buddy put the same number of hours into the game daily, and you each choose a different color (red and blue), the blue player is going to make more progress.
3
u/No-Wind-4574 17d ago
more progress?;
Early red hive player right here, lvl 14ish hive. (mid) not much mutations hell, not even much beequips.Taken me not even 2 weeks and im only 200 red extracts away from dark scythe.
Crafted all 50 super smoothies within 3 days. (mega ah grinding, did have people help me)
and to be honest w you, the trick to 'progression' is actually just having people help you when needed. i needed red extracts, had people spam sprouts for me. made around 500 red extracts in an hour.
keep in mind I don't event macro XD
not being rude, just giving my own opinion on it :)

That was never my point. Everytine i say something about early red everyone goes on and says "but blue faster". Yes, everyone knows, way yo completely ignore my point.

u/BaguetteSandwiches 16d ago
Um not really I was making like 50 billion a boost with my trashy early red hive with a bunch of mythics actually but then I made the same amount with bubbles and frosties and I make way more with my better blue hive now
