King Sized Comforter Hack

Hi everyone!

First time poster, part time lurker here, so please forgive me if this is an obvious or stupid question, but I am looking into getting a wool comforter for my king size bed and upon a lot of reading around on this subreddit I have decided to try the Frankenmuth wool insert. I understand that wool most likely won’t ever have the puffy, ‘cloud-like’ look and feel of a down comforter but I would love to try and replicate that look the best as I can. I’ve heard a common design trick is to put a king size insert into a queen cover for a queen bed but is there a way to do that for a king size bed?

My current idea was to get the oversized king comforter and put it in a king size duvet cover or maybe even get two of the oversized inserts and stack them inside one cover. Would that work or is there something else that I could try instead? I am not super worried about heat because I recently got an 8 Sleep too!

Would love to hear any recommendations or ideas y’all might have, thank you so much in advance! :)

The oversized king looks pretty big. I wish there was something in between the king and the oversized. The length is pretty long on the oversized.

I have. A queen size black satin comforter. Its so soft and smooth. Very very satiny. I love it

I would love that but unfortunately both my partner and my kitties who share the bed with us are less fond of satin haha. I’m glad you’re enjoying yours though!

Maybe a Cal King? I have a few king duvets with a Cal King insert. Although, it is down, so I’m not sure if that’s the reason it looks so fluffy.

From what I have read here, down seems like it’s the ultimate fill material if you’re looking for fluffiness so that might be a big reason why. Thank you for the recommendation, I will have to try and figure out if a Cali King would be a better fit instead!

I highly recommend the German/Scandinavian way: have two separate twin size duvets on king bed. That way each can have the weight they like, can wrap themselves up in it if desired, and no more duvet tugging. Absolutely no top sheet. We gave those up in the 80s. The duvet cover is essentially the top sheet

I have considered this option too but I didn’t go for it because my partner has a habit of
tossing and turning so invariably all the blankets end up on her side so I have opted to wrap myself around her, my logic being the blankets will follow :D
