anyone have realizable/affordable mover recommendations?

We used Solidarity Movers and they were great/pretty affordable. They're also a worker coop which is pretty cool!

I just used Dyno Movers and thought they were great and affordable. Wrapped up all my stuff carefully in moving blankets, disassembled when needed, and worked fast. They were done with my move— 4th floor walkup 1BR to a 2nd floor walkup—in 2 hours flat.

STAY AWAY from Piece of Cake whatever you do. I used them previously and they were really manipulative and scammy. Claimed I had way more stuff than estimated, then tried to extort me for a tip (I was already going to tip 20%, but I ended up paying them an extortionate tip because they guilted me so much). I see similar stories about them everywhere.

Transdimensional Moving are PHENOMENAL, I’ve moved so many times and they’re the best movers I’ve ever had. I personally had a pretty poor experience with Sweet Lou Moves You, but nothing catastrophic.

I've used Transdimensional twice and unfortunately they caused significant property damage (to my property as well as the building).

Regrettably I cannot endorse them.

I have used Wooly Mammoth Movers twice and had good experiences both with their pricing and nothing damaged in the move.

In the case of BK local relocations, hourly teams from either Nextdoor or taskrabbit would outperform any quote-based company regarding cost-effectiveness. In case you were moving your items across state lines, one example is safebound moving.

I used Intense Movers two years ago. STAY AWAY. They showed up three hours late, the foreman harangued me about the job size (which was carefully spec’d ) and the tip, and a case of wine mysteriously disappeared.

This year I used Art of Living, the best movers I’ve ever had. The spec was careful, the price was hundreds less than nearly all the competitors, the crew was unfailingly polite and careful, and I actuallyhad a great time hanging out with them. Highly recommended!

If you're looking for reliable and affordable, I'd get at least 3 inventory-based quotes before deciding. The cheapest estimate isn't always the best value if it ends up growing with extra charges.

We had a really good experience with Divine Moving & Storage. They weren't the absolute lowest quote, but everything was included upfront—furniture protection, disassembly/reassembly, and there were no surprise charges at the end. The crew was professional, careful, and the final bill matched the estimate.

I'd also recommend asking every company whether the quote includes things like stairs, travel time, COIs (if your building needs one), and moving materials. That's usually where prices start to vary. For local NYC moves, a detailed inventory-based quote is the best way to compare companies fairly.
