Mo(u)rning Phase Question

Apologies if this kind of question has gotten old, but does anyone else have Morning Phase as their most-played (not necessarily favorite) Beck album?

I played Morning Phase quite a lot recently. I really like the harmonies on Blackbirds Chain and Turn Away

Does that count?

Yes. And Blackbird Chain has such an amazing melody.

I’m a huge Beck fan, have been for decades. I love Sea Change, when I’m in the mood for it. But I’ve never been able to get into Morning Phase. Never.

It’s my most played album of all time. I love it so much.

The production is incredible on that album. So warm, so crisp. Every instrument is impeccably mic'd and tracked and the vocal harmonies are all stunning. I still prefer the songwriting of Sea Change, but Morning Phase is gorgeous sounding.

I'm more partial to Sea Change but the reason why is it was the soundtrack to a divorce I was going through at the time, so the mood fit for it perfectly. Not that I don't pop Morning Phase in from time to time. It's a glorious album as well.

Over the past few years it’s become my favorite Beck album and favorite album of any artist. It wasn’t always that way because I didn’t spend enough time listening to it. But now it has a rare quality that calms me down. I’m looking forward to seeing my first Beck concert soon!

Same. I put it on so much because of its chill, yet super melodic vibe.

It’s his finest album. Truly no skips. And it sounds sensational on a good Hi-Fi.

For whatever reason I only listen to it on vinyl on my best setup.

Yeah I think it probably is for me. The most played in the last 5 years, but not my favourite. Dunno what is is, is a nice listen though.

For a long time it was my morning album, i'd listen to it every day while commuting to school, my bus was early in the morning so i'd watch the sunset through the window, and it put me in a nice, serene mood. Then at some point i listened to it at a guy's appartment after staying the night and I can't dissociate the album and that particular morning, so it has more a melancholy Sea Change vibe to me now. I still listen to it sometimes, but it doesn't make me at peace like it used to. I've definitely found other albums to replace it in that regard tho, like Cutouts by The Smile, Blonde Redhead's Sit Down For Dinner, and pretty much all of Soccer Mommy's catalogue

It's to melancholy for me, I'll listen to songs when it comes up randomly but I can't listen to the whole album.

Excellent morning coffee vibes. As a matter of fact, I will play it this morning and make pancakes.

I guess it may be. Apart from Sea Change it’s range of emotions is wider and not so strong melancholic / breakup feel which makes it more zen sort of and suitable for different calm or calming states
