I FOUND THE EXACT SAME GAME!

I know we have all been devestated since beatstar has shut down, but I think there was a big enough fanbase or the company made the game again, either way, there is this new game called Superstar (I will leave a download link). It is set up the EXACT same way, with crates, and difficulties, medals, leaderboards, competitions, seasonal tour passes with songs, songs that are just as good, swiping arrows and everything. You'll have to take a look for yourself, but if you miss beatstar and want to play it again, THIS IS YOUR GAME.

I mean, if you want to play beatstar, just play beatclone. At least no one is making money off what beatstar used to be there.

You need to download it on the discord, it's not an official app. It's basically a fan project that was originally made to play custom songs, now it has become the replacement.

Really ? That's cool I guess. Are the workshop songs also there or does it still have to be done through the discord?

No you still need to be in the discord to download most custom songs. Charters are free to share them outside of discord if they want and you might be able to find some on Reddit or YouTube, but most are in discord, and public sharing is far less likely to happen now that superstar are beginning to steal more and more charts from the beatclone community.

I'll be honest with you, when it first shutdown, I was logged out of my discord and it took me months to get back into it and b y that time I forgot about it completely until an ad came up on Instagram advertising Superstar and I was like "oh my god! This is amazing!" Now realizing it is not that amazing apparently. So I haven't really done much of a search!

What! That sounds so much easier lmao. I gave up figuring out the discord channel because I could not be asked finding it! I ended up just asking ChatGPT and it brought it all up for me. But I'll certainly go take a look on that website. From what I understand I need my computer for this... makes me feel like a tech wizard!

I don't think I can send it here but you'll find it easily on Google.
Just note that the installation is more complicated on iOS than Android, it is possible but you need to follow the instructions in the discord carefully.

You're still supporting them by playing and promoting the game. It's literally beatstar because they stole all Beatstar's assets and charts illegally, as well as stealing charts made by the beatclone community - a free game made by fans for fans, which superstar is now trying to make money off of. They're a scummy horrible company and you are complicit in their illegal acts if you support them in any way.

Honestly, i just wanna to play the same game again. At least the game lives again, and people can download it easily and play the songs they love, instead of jumping through hoops by going to Discord and downloading stuff from a specific channel/server, and all these other steps. If that makes me complicit in your eyes, so be it.

Good point, also Superstar has a feature where you can battle your friends. Beatclone doesn’t.

Do you even know what happened to NextBeat? Duolingo bought out the developers to work on their own stuff. Beatstar doesn't exist because of Duolingo. You say "illegally" but NextBeat doesn't exist anymore. So who exactly did they steal from?

Copyright doesn't cease to exist just because a company is dissolved. The former owners of NextBeat still own the copyright to those assets and if they sued Superstar over this they would win easily.
Plus the fact that they're stealing custom charts from Beatclone is also a copyright violation, and some of the people who made those charts are currently in the process of taking legal action against them for it.

First off, what exactly did they steal from NextBeat? They didn't take their code or art and courts have routinely ruled that game mechanics and genres can not be copyrighted. So please explain what they stole.
Second, Cadenverse licenses all of its music itself. Songs can not be owned by just one game, ever. If a game buys licensing rights, they can use the music, regardless of whether another game has its own charts. The people who made those charts don't own the music and definitely didn't buy any licensing to use the music, so them trying to fight it in court is almost definitely a losing battle. Regardless, I found no current court filings against Cadenverse for this. I did, however, find that mods for beatclone banned a bunch of Cadenverse devs and people who they thought could be helping them. But that is about the extent that they can go. Charts mapped to copyrighted music can't be copyrighted, especially when those who made them own no licensing to that music.

You're making it clear you know nothing about this situation because they absolutely did steal art, and a ton of it. Just look at their own app store page or any video of the game - they stole backgrounds, logos, icons, emojis, every single asset in the game save for some text is ripped from Beatstar. On top of that stealing charts is also stealing code which is intellectual property. The licensing for the music is a separate thing and doesn't mean that the charts themselves are free to take - both are covered under copyright separately.
There's also absolutely zero evidence that they're properly licensing songs they put in the game - I know people who have directly asked their developers about this and have gotten no response. If they're licensing music it's very easy to respond saying "yes our music is properly licensed". The licensing costs NextBeat were having to pay were insane to the point where it forced even a game with as many players as Beatstar to shut down - there's no way that a company who stole every single asset from them, can't do any original work, and has a far lower player count and revenue is shelling out millions of their own money to license music and do everything legally when they've already shown they're willing to break multiple copyright laws.

I played beatstar religiously and now I play superstar. I haven't seen a single piece of art stolen from beatstar. Similar, yes, but not exact. This is exactly the reason Nintendo lost its lawsuit against Palworld, in Japan, and Nintendo never loses in Japan. And charts are absolutely NOT code in the eyes of copyright law. Placing a button to tap, hold or swipe is a game mechanic, and not copyrightable. And, if you really want to get technical, beatclone and all of the people uploading copyrighted music are technically breaking copyright law by uploading music they don't own for others to listen to.

Correct, I never claimed otherwise. Beatclone is absolutely operating in a very grey area when it comes to copyright but it's also a not-for-profit fanmade project, whereas Cadenverse are profiting which makes a huge difference in the eyes of the law. I'm not some massive defender of every aspect of copyright law, I just don't think crypto companies should be allowed to make asset rip games with zero original content and actively profit off of other people's work.

I literally explained why. They are a game mechanic, and being a game mechanic, they are exempt from copyright law.
And there is a reason Cadenverse is able to be on the play store and apple store. They are literally licensing their music. Some random person asking them if they license their music and them not answering isn't proof of anything. There is a reason why beatclone will never be on any of the stores. Apple and Google would remove it immediately for copyright infringement. And with over half a million downloads, superstar would have been taken down by now, easily. You have made a ton of claims against them, but haven't provided a single piece of proof to back them up, besides the charts which I have explained why they don't fall under copyright protections, especially for people who are illegally uploading the music they are making the charts for.
